Chapter 6 - The Central Market

Before going home Nathaniel decided to stop at the central market to sell the three jars of honey he still had. He would need money for Adventurering gear and a basic suit of armor. He knew the honey would sell for a good price as it was a rare luxury item with a wide variety of uses such as a natural sweetener, preservative, and medicinal purposes.

The Central Market was one of the most vibrant places in Welbrook. Packed full of vendors, citizens, and travelers nearly from dawn to dusk. Even though it wasn't Welbrook's only market with there also being a farmers, livestock, fish, and grain markets it was by far the biggest. Selling everything from general necessities to some luxury goods that were only bested by the Merchant Guild's Auction House. This was of course why he would bring his honey here.

Entering the largest apothecary shop in the City 'Wellness for the Whole Brook'. Upon entering he saw an elderly woman around eighty years of age. she had long sliver hair that reached to the back of her knee which was tied together in a single braid. Deep wrinkles could be seen all over her face and bags on her upper eyelid made her eyes look permanently closed. Nathaniel walked to the counter where the woman was standing at and placed his honey down. In a bright and cheerful voice he said, "I would like to sell these to you."

"Is that so well I had better take a look at them then." the elderly woman replied, gently opening the nearest jar to inspect its contents. "Hmm this is some high quality honey you have here. How did a young man like yourself aquire such a quantity of it?"

Nathaniel pulled out his freshly minted Guild license proudly showing it to the woman.

"Well that explains it. Anyway you said you wanted to sell them correct? I'd be willing to pay three gold coins* per jar."

After some quick negotiations Nathaniel was able to raise the price to four gold coins per jar giving him twelve gold coins in total. He likely could have gotten more but, he wanted to establish a good relationship with the apothecary. As an Adventurer injuries were bound to happen, and almost all medicines, ointments, and treatments would be gotten from the apothecary. So having a good relationship with one was crucial for an up and coming as well as an established Adventurer.

He would leave the market to finally go home. It was well past midday and he was sure his father would be starting to worry about him. Upon entering his home he would be met with the figure of his father William nervously pacing around the living room. Seeing Nathaniel he rushed over checking his body for any marks, bruises, or injuries. Seeing none he sighed a breath of relief, knowing his son was alright took a massive weight off his shoulders.

He then asked the all important question "Well how did it go, look on the bright side now you can focus wholeheartedly on your apprenticeship." In Williams eyes for his son to come home with absolutely no injury after going on such a dangerous quest made him believe he chickened out and came to his senses before running head first into such a dangerous situation.

But just as with the apothecary Nathaniel needed only pull out his Guild license to silence the questioning. Will looked with great wide eyes, to think his son passed such a dangerous quest seemed impossible especially given that he looked as well as when he left the house this morning. But faking a Guild license was nearly impossible and seeing the smile on his sons face told him all he needed to know, he really did pass the exam and would follow in the footsteps of his Uncle Samuel.

This of course greatly saddened William he didn't want that dangerous lifestyle for his son. He wanted him to have a stable, safe, and good job which is why he wanted him to take up masonry in the first place. Not simply out of pride for his own work but, for the safety of his only child. Alas he knew now there would be no talking his son out of it and so simply sat back and listened to his son's day.
