It was primetime. The stars were twinkling in the sky. Jake was eating dinner with his mother Diana Shaw, who was in her early fifties, and his little kid sister Isabella Mathews. She was just nine years old.
"Mom, I need to buy some stuff. When we are going shopping?", Isabella asked while she was playing with her food in the plate in front of her. "Isabella! How many times I told you no talking while eating food", Diana reminded Isabella.
"But mom, I have been asking you for last three days and you didn't say anything in return!"
Diana gulped down the food in her mouth and replied, "I am busy these days Isabella. I'll take you tomorrow." She glanced at Jake who was staring at his phone while eating. He was ignoring both his mother and his kid sister. Diana stopped eating for an instance and called him, "Jake!"
But Jake was busy scrolling down the screen of his phone and didn't respond. Diana noticed that he was busy, so she called his name again.
"Jake!"
But Jake was absorbed in his own thoughts that he didn't even notice his mother voice. Isabella looked at him and mocked, "Nerd!" Diana knitted her brows and uttered loudly.
"JAKE!"
Jake's brows twitched; he gave a puzzled look to Diana. "What is it mom? Why are you yelling at me?" Diana put her hands on the table and grumbled, "I called your name more twice and you didn't even bother to listen."
Jake looked at Isabella, "Really?"
"Yeah, you nerd!", Isabella scoffed.
Diana raised her brows, "Have you forgotten your manners, Jake?"
Jake rolled his eyes and said, "It's not like that mom. I was just reading a report of my case."
"Liar!", a cute voice came from his front. He looked at his sister with bewilderment, "I am sorry!? But why are you calling me a liar?"
"Nom! —nom! —Because you are lying to mom", Isabella replied.
Jake raised his brows, "Oh, really~ Do you have any proof brat?"
Isabella focused her gaze at Jake and replied, "You were smiling while reading your so called, report. Was your report written by a comedian?"
Jake was speechless after hearing a rejoinder from Isabella.
Cough!
Jake coughed and said, "Well~ you know~ umm~ there were some moments when you~"
Isabella slightly squinted her eyes, "Sigh! Oh, please stop it, Jake! Anyone can tell that you are still lying!"
Jake gaped for a moment and laughed at her reply, "Oh my God~"
Seeing Jake speechless Isabella pointed her spoon towards Jake, "You shouldn't tell lies!" and began eating again.
Jake glanced at his mother for help but she just smiled helplessly and gave a pitiful look to her son and began eating. But Jake kept looking at her in amazement and finally objected, "Mom! Are you not going to say anything?"
"Why would I? serves you right for not listening to me earlier."
Jake frowned and chewed on his lower lip and remarked, "Seriously!?—now you are teaming up with her against me?"
"No one support the liars~", Isabella commented. Jake shifted his gaze to Isabella and fleered at her.
Jake thought that Isabella would complain about this to Diana but to his surprise she stared at him for a moment and fleered back at him. "I will tell Sarah that you are a liar."
Jake chuckled, "Sarah will never believe you! She only listens to me!"
"Oh yeah! wanna bet?", Isabella challenged him.
"Anytime!", Jake accepted her challenge without any worries.
"Both of you eat your dinner first!", Diana cut in and protested.
"Hmph! Saved by mom!", Isabella scoffed Jake.
Jake narrowed his eyes, "I'll get you next time you cheeky brat!"
Ring~
Jake phone rang. He glanced at the screen of his phone, he slightly frowned. He put down his spoon and received the call, "Hello!"
"Jake don't ask me any questions. Just dress up and come out I am waiting in the car!", Simon ordered.
"Alright, I am coming right away sir", Jake hung up. He quickly finished his dinner and got up from his seat.
Seeing him in a hurry, Diana asked, "Is everything alright Jake?"
"Yeah, I need to go right now." Jake replied while he hurried inside his room.
Jake came out in few seconds and before the main door. When he was about to twist the door knob, he suddenly recalled something and called out his little sister.
"Isabella, come here quickly!"
Isabella came out from the dining hall and stood in front of him, "Are you planning to take revenge on me while mom is not around?"
Jake chuckled and didn't say anything in response, instead he took out his wallet and handed down some money to Isabella. "Here, I heard you wanted to go shopping."
Isabella was taken aback by the latter's action. Her innocent eyes opened wide, "But I thought you were going to take revenge on me for calling you a liar!"
Jake just smiled in return. He tried to give it to her but Isabella refused in her cute voice, "—I still have some money left from the last time."
Jake smiled at her response how honest she was despite her age. He crouched down to her and shove the money in Isabella's hands forcefully, "Take it! Who knows when you reach there you might like to buy more stuff?" He rubbed her little head. Jake turned around to leave.
"Jake, wait!", Isabella yelled from behind.
Jake looked behind and asked in confusion, "What is it? Do you want some more?"
"No", Isabella shook her head and requested, "Can you get down on your knees, pretty please!", and smiled brightly at the end of her request.
Jake slightly furrowed his brows and crouched on his knees in front of his little sister. Isabella stepped forth and pecked the latter on his cheek and said in her lovely cute voice, "I love you, Jake!"
Jake smiled delightfully and caressed his sister's face gently, "I love you too my cute little bunny!"
Isabella stepped back a little and advised, "Please be careful out there!"
Jake nodded, "I will."
He got up and left the house.
...….
In the car detective was waiting. He saw Jake coming out of his house; he unlocked the door for the latter and asked, "What took you so long?"
Jake grinned, "Nothing, just family business." He paused for a moment while Simon turned on the engine and then inquired, "So, what's the emergency sir?"
"You'll know when we get there", Simon answered sternly.
Jake was curious about the current situation. He thought that it might be important because Simon wasn't revealing anything to him so he assumed that things might not be normal.
After driving for half an hour, Simon parked the car in the parking area of Saint Maria Hospital. Jake asked, "Sir why are we here? Didn't we drop the case already?"
Jake was a totally confused by sudden development. Because, last time when they were about to leave the hospital Simon informed Jake about the case. He told him the reason why they needed to pull back. However, Jake was surprised because, it hadn't been even a week and they were here again. Therefore, Jake asked Simon to clear his confusion.
Simon turned off the engine. He looked at Jake and replied, "It's an order from the chief. We are here to escort that kid who you hold so dear more than your girlfriend to his house safely. No mistakes would be tolerated since me and you are acting as the alphas in this case."
Jake felt a bit awkward and said, "But why we sir?"
"Because, it's an order!", replied Simon.
Jake nodded, "Understood!"
Simon unlocked his seat belt and was about to open the door when Jake interrupted, "Wait sir!"
Simon stopped his movements all of a sudden, he looked at the Jake whose gaze was directed downward. Simon noticed the curiosity on the latter's face and asked, "What is it?"
Jake knitted brows and pursed his lips, "Sir are we able to pull this off by ourselves? I mean—you are aware that Whites—"
"What!? –Don't tell me you're chickening out now? –even though when I got your back!", Simon cut in.
Jake shifted his gaze towards Simon and shook his head, "I am not afraid—I am just worried—"
Noticing Jake became dispirited, Simon sighed and said, "Don't worry about your family! Our Guys are watching over them."
Jake was full of spirit when Simon assured him about his family. He heaved a sigh of relieve and accepted the mission full heartedly.
Witnessing that Jake face became much better than before he ordered, "Now let's do this!"
"Yes sir!", Jake replied with determination.
