Chapter 58 - 058 Her Response

```
"Jinxia... what are you doing..."
"I... I can't breathe... cough..."
"Huh... huh..."
Yang Jinxia stood in the darkness, quietly watching the tears slide down the cheek of the girl on the sickbed. Then, the scene quickly faded away, disappearing into the distant darkness.
She opened her eyes and immediately noticed something wrong. This wasn't her room.
Where is this? How did I get here?
Kidnapping?
She looked at the gray sky above, and her heart sank. In the few seconds it took her to sit up from the ground, she had already prepared for the worst.
The sight before her shattered all her previous assumptions and made her face turn pale as paper in an instant.
This was a city in ruins.
A collapsed skyscraper, and all she saw was heaps of bricks and rubble. At her feet, a deformed aluminum window frame stood at a strange angle, gently swaying with the whistling wind.
It was a world of deathly silence.
The concept jumped into her mind, and for a moment, she felt a deep chill rise from her heart, her eyes involuntarily showing fear, and her body began to tremble slightly.
Tap!
Suddenly, a faint sound of pebbles colliding came from behind her.
What is this...
In her ears, this faint sound was like a thunderclap. She abruptly turned her head.
She saw a man not far behind her, rising from the ground.
Someone!
The presence of this person pulled her out of the endless fear. To her, surviving alone in a world of silence was the scariest thing.
In an instant, she composed herself and quickly assessed the situation. Seeing the man standing motionless with his back to her, she quietly hid behind a half-collapsed brick wall, observing him through a gap.
The man's identity was unknown; it was best not to rush into contact.
His clothes were ordinary, around 1.75 meters tall, not particularly strong-looking. She assessed in her mind, slightly disappointed.
Hmm? Recovering from the shock so quickly, his ability to accept the situation was not bad.
What is he looking for?
Is there a body?
She followed the man's line of sight and was a little surprised. She hadn't noticed before.
In hindsight, she realized the body was in her blind spot, so it was normal for her not to have noticed.
Next, she saw the man pick up a gun next to the body, check the magazine, put it back, and pulled the slide. That seemed like a chambering action.
Could he be a policeman?
She felt a surge of joy. His skilled movements suggested he was someone who often handled guns. In this country, only police and military personnel belonged to such groups. His demeanor didn't suggest he was military.
Encountering a policeman in such an environment was incredibly lucky.
However, she didn't impulsively rush out to meet him, planning to observe further.
Then, the man held the gun and cautiously walked toward a building ahead. This further convinced her that he was likely a policeman.
She quietly followed the man from behind, his attention focused ahead, unaware of her presence.
Subsequently, she noticed that the building bore scars of battle, evident of a fierce fight having just occurred. From her angle, she could see several bodies.
The man searched inside for a while and unexpectedly put on a strangely shaped mechanical suit, half of which was damaged, only half a set. Then, he demonstrated the suit's power by lifting a concrete pillar from the ground.
She was astonished. That concrete pillar weighed at least several tons. Could it be lifted with just a half-set, oddly shaped mechanical suit? Current Earth technology couldn't possibly create such a thing, right?
Her company also invested in some high-tech industries, giving her some understanding of cutting-edge technology. If such a product existed, she would know about it.
While she was feeling a bit puzzled, the man suddenly turned around and fired a shot.
What happened?
She was stunned. Why did he fire for no apparent reason? What followed was a series of gunshots.
She couldn't help but peek out a little and finally saw a monster not far in front of the man. So he encountered danger.
He probably didn't have experience dealing with enemies using a gun.
From this man's reaction, she could tell something. She guessed he was a novice. From his profile, the man looked quite young.
Yet, his marksmanship was exceptionally good. Even though he seemed so panicked, every shot hit the monster's head.
A new policeman, not long out of training, joined the force for a while, had excellent marksmanship, but lacked experience handling major cases.
She had painted a rough image of him in her mind.
After a while, the man composed himself, found something else at the scene, and then hurriedly left.
She quickly followed but didn't dare to call out impulsively. Although she judged that this man wouldn't mean her harm,
his nerves were probably still tense. If he reacted reflexively, giving her a shot, it would be a wrongful death.
The man ran with an odd gait, limping but moving quickly. Before long, he entered a building.
She followed into the building, walked to the stairwell, and listened to the thumping footsteps until they disappeared on the rooftop.
Why did he go to the rooftop?
Baffled, she pondered but didn't rush to follow. Instead, she began searching around inside the building.
Finally, she found a relatively intact mirror in a room. She blew off the dust and started tidying up in front of the mirror.
She was wearing a green nightgown without any makeup. She had removed her makeup before sleeping, so she was completely bare-faced. However, after the small run earlier, she had sweated a bit and picked up some dust.
She carefully wiped away the dust and straightened her clothes. At the same time, she ran through the scenario of meeting the man in her mind.
She knew that for now, to survive better, she must rely on the man on the rooftop.
Fortunately, he was a young policeman. She didn't need to worry too much about him harming her.
And what she could use now was only the inherent weapon of a woman.
The target was an ordinary-looking, grassroots policeman from a regular family... She gradually formulated a plan in her mind. She knew what to say and how to express it when meeting him.
After rehearsing the meeting scenario twice in her mind, she headed up the stairs.
The building was quite high. She rested a few times along the way; otherwise, sweating too much would affect her appearance.
Finally, she reached the last flight of stairs.
She paused to adjust herself and then went up.
PS: After some consideration, I decided to bring her perspective into the story. Focusing solely on the protagonist's perspective made it challenging to fully shape this character.
