Chereads / A Bite Sweet as Poison / Chapter 27 - A step for a fool

Chapter 27 - A step for a fool

There was a fair amount of confusion between Cassy leaving, and me getting ready to head out once again. Lizzie got startled when the door finally gave out and crashed my shoe rack, spilling coffee all over herself, the chair, and some of the rug. She excused herself afterwards, leaving me to start cleaning the place on my own.

Strangely, pushing the heavy door back in its place was the easy part. The coffee stain that oozed all around the chair and floor, was a much harder task.

I made three rounds with a wineglass full of water to pour on the stain, but it didn't seem to work. How are you supposed to get out coffee from this weird velvety fabric? Is excessive watering a good idea? I have no clue.

I pulled the rug from under the table, and threw it in the shower. I was about to give the armchair the same treatment when I heard the faintest voice coming from outside.

"Can we come in?"

"Yeah, just mind the door, it's not stable." I shouted.

"I brought some help" she said, and beelined for the bathroom after seeing the damage. I also saw J enter after her from the corner of my eye.

"Hello there, Ava!" He greeted cheerfully, and I had just the slightest desire to throw one of the wet pillows at him. If he could control his powers better, if he just gave me some more time to get rid of this annoying girl, I wouldn't have to deal with any of this.

I let the chair go, and it landed just a couple inches short of J's shoes.

"Bad day? Or just redecorating?" He asked and grabbed the furniture, twisting and turning it with a vampire's grace, assessing the damage, and paying no mind to how the unabsorbed coffee flew off and splattered everything around him.

He looked at me with a cocky grin.

I stared, trying to find a nice way to tell him off, but I felt a cold push from his direction. His aura was a warning message: 'If you tell her, I'll take you to a frozen Hell'.

I wasn't stupid enough to try and tell Lizzie everything. I doubt she'd believe me, even if I did. Still, his pushing pissed me off.

"Get on with the helping instead of the witty comments, okay?" I called the flames to my aura, and threw it at his icy webs. The impact wasn't enough to hurt him, but at least he stopped with the annoying smile.

"I'm afraid it comes with the package." He said before rushing to take a water-filled bucket from a struggling Lizzie.

Where did she get that?

It took the three of us nearly an hour to clean up most of the stains from the coffee, and the ones from me being an idiot.

"Thanks for the help!"

Lizzie's forehead was sweaty and she was breathing heavily, clearly not used to physical work. She took off her gloves and hugged J from the side, pulling his attention from his always beeping phone.

"No worries, but I'd still call the janitors if I were you." She smiled. "I am really sorry, but we have to go now. The store's about to close."

J gently turned her head to face him. Then he frowned. "Don't you want to sit down first? You're pale."

She pushed herself away, taking the small pouch she left on the kitchen counter.

"No, I'm fine, really. You worry too much."

"I can't worry enough if it's about you."

"Oh, stop it!"

Lizzie came and quickly hugged me before the two saying goodbyes and heading to whatever store was still open.

I spent the rest of the night trying to find some info about Cassy on social media, but her profiles were locked tighter than a Hunter's prison. Not a single letter or photo visible for strangers. With a mental shrug I clicked on add friend. I might as well have the insane bitch as my first friend. It's not like she tried to shoot me or anything.

I now had to deal with both of the Blackblood brothers on top of the investigation. I don't care what sis thinks I feel like a goddamn failure for not finding anything. And I was found out, not even once, but twice! If it continues like this, I might as well just put up a poster saying "Murderous girl seeking murderbudy, preferred method death by weird magic, please call xoxo".

This wasn't supposed to be that hard of a job. There are like what… two hundred students here? Even after checking just a couple auras, I should've found something. Anything. The slightest bit of mischief. But they are as bland as wooden spoon.

Is something wrong with me…?

I reopened the laptop, and started looking through Sin's mile long friends list again. He seems to know a lot of people from school.

Aaand… found it.

I quickly opened a chat window and sent a message.

"Hey."

She wrote back immediately.

"OMG, hello! You have a profile?"

"Yeah, I just made it."

"Yay! ^.^"

She seemed to be lost in typing for a while, but I was patient. Can't let her get out of my grasp now.

"Do you want to be friends??" She asked after a long minute.

"Sure." I got the notification immediately, and accepted. Suck on that, annoying girl, you won't get to be my first.

"What are you up to?" I asked.

"We're chilling at Vegan Zombie, but Tia's flirting with the waiter so he's not bringing us food :( "

"Can I join? I'm pretty hungry too."

"Yes!!!"

A wide smile spread on my face. This is how I get things done, not by waiting for the vampires like a lazy princess.

I turned to find something to wear, but my laptop beeped and I looked at the screen.

"Cassidy Simmons has accepted your friend request."

Too late bitch. I have bigger fish to fry.
