Chereads / Reincarnated Assassin / Chapter 25 - Duel of Nobles

Chapter 25 - Duel of Nobles

Out in the camps were a bunch of people gathered around two nobles. The first noble was Ritzy holding a white glove, the second noble was the owner of that glove.

The owner of the glove was a blonde man. He was a very tall person, he was a chest taller than everyone else, but his build wasn't very noticeable.

Random guy 1,

"A duel is starting! Everyone, gather around! It's a fight between the child of a count vs a lowly noble who doesn't even know what a magical horse is. This is gonna be a slaughter!".

Ritzy,

"Oh Sh**, If I remember correctly, if one accepts the glove of another male, it means the duel has been accepted".

Blonde Noble,

"How dare you try to touch my steed! Especially me, Alto of the Caballo family!".

Ritzy,

"I'm not here to cause problems I ju-".

Alto,

"Well, you got a problem now! Especially since you dare approach me in a duel!".

Alto's mind,

'Sorry you damn fool but I need to beat you senseless. The fellow nobles don't respect me and I need you to increase my reputation by slaughtering you. If it wasn't because I wasn't invited to the war council, I wouldn't have to use you to give myself standing by showing off my lance skills. You have my condolences'.

Ritzy,

"There no need for a dual, we can just talk this out".

Alto,

"You damn filthy noble, how horrible is your family to teach you to disgrace the noble tradition of duels!".

Ritzy,

"How dare you speak about my family like that, let's begin this duel then!".

Ritzy always had a cool conscience in whatever slander the opposition said but after learning about family love through his mother, he became extremely protective about his family's reputation.

Alto,

"How dare you deny what I say is true! You should be kneeling right now and try to please me in any way I desire. I'll show you what you deserve because of you showing any hostility toward me!".

Alto then turned around and yelled,

"Servant!".

A young man then appeared, around the age of Ritzy and Alto.

"Yes, sir?".

Alto,

"Bring me a weapon!".

Alto then turned to Ritzy and inspected him. After noticing that Ritzy had no weapon he talked again to the servant,

"Also, bring one of our extra spears for the lowly noble to use. I can't beat him senseless if he isn't armed as well".

Servant,

"Of course sir, as benevolent as always".

The servant then came back with a spear and a Guisarme lance. He first handed the lance to his master and then walked up to Ritzy. As he handed the spear to Ritzy, he said,

"Beat his ass for me if you can, and if you can't. You have my condolences".

Ritzy's mind,

'Wow, not even your own men want you to win, Alto. I wonder what you did to them to deserve this'.

When Ritzy grabbed the spear, the servant left the area to make room for the duel.

---

As the duel was setting in motion, the crowd was getting bigger and bigger. Since most of them were mercenaries or knights, they were very enthusiastic to see a fight between nobles. Typically nobles would do honorable duels in secluded areas where only other nobles that were invited could see. This meant that they usually would never have the chance to see nobles fight amongst each other.

This was also a joyous moment for them. Nobles were cruel people who would take advantage of people of the lower class like them. Sadly, they couldn't fight back, so they would have to suffer in silence. Though this time, it was a dispute between nobles, so the other party was able to retaliate. This meant that this was there chance to see a noble be disgraced, and they could relieve their anger towards noble tyranny by watching the nobles pummel each other. They could finally see a noble fall.

The moment was such a joyous and rare occasion that when nearby people heard nobles were gonna fight, they quickly came running to watch. When mercenaries heard what was happening, they quickly came to set up a betting pool in who would win. Some of the other mercenaries even set up alcohol and snack booths to try and make money. Even though these mercenaries were well know for combat, they still focus on profits. Even if it meant doing menial tasks.

There was a mercenary that quickly set up a makeshift wooden booth with his friend manning a grill. The mercenary on the counter was yelling.

"Get your sausages here! Haven't had breakfast yet, buy our sausages while you watch the show. Even if you have eaten breakfast, you can still enjoy the savory cooked meat of sausages while you see the duel, we won't tell anyone that you're stuffing yourself!".

Another mercenary also made a makeshift stall and had a keg instead of a grill. The mercenary vendor yelled,

"Get your booze here! There no better satisfaction than seeing a brawl between nobles with a nice ale!".

A third mercenary who now turned into a bookie was setting up a betting pool while holding beast skin paper and a pencil. The bookie said,

"Come all, come all, the fight is about to start so give me your bets. We accept resources or money. The pool is 5 copper on Alto and 1 copper to the yellow-eyed noble! Place your bets before the duel begins! If not, there will be a late bet fee if it's even accepted!".

---

Ritzy grabbed the spear and swung it a couple of times to determine its weight and get used to handling the weapon. He felt the spear extremely weak compared to other weapons he has held.

The spear had a dark brown wooden pole and a bronze tip. The tip wasn't really large but only 5 inches long and 1 inch and a half wide. The spear was valued around 2 iron coins.

On the contrary, Alto's lance was magnificent in every way. It had a thick pole with metal like grips around the tip and bottom. The bottom had a styled round butt. The tip was Gusarme style, so it had a very wide blade. It looked like a double-sided curved meat cleaver.

When Ritzy was satisfied with his control on the spear, he gave a guarded stance to show he was ready. His back leg was bent while his front leg pointed to Alto. The spear tip was touching the floor nearby his foot facing Alto to show that he was ready and only waiting for the other party to be prepared.

When Alto, noticed that Ritzy was ready and already in a stance, he went on guard as well to show he was prepared as well.

When they both acknowledge they were ready, they walked forward with spears pointing at each other. When the opposition was in striking distance, instead of attacking, they circled each other. They were both waiting for an opportunity to strike.

Alto,

"It's seems like you no amatuer in the way of the spear. I gotta give you props, but I'll end you now!".

Alto then stabbed the spear forward, aiming for Ritzy's right bicep.

Ritzy noticing Alto's stab, he twirled the spear in a circular motion for the spear to be under Alto's spear. When the spear was in position, he pulled the spear up, causing Alto's strike to hit nothing up in the air. With Alto having no protection, Ritzy thrusted the spear to Alto's neck.

Just as the spear was about to pierce Alto's neck, Ritzy stopped the spear on the surface of Alto's neck skin. Alto could feel the cold sharpness of the spear on his adam apple. He was so afraid that he would die, his skin turned sickly pale.

When Ritzy noticed that Alto stopped moving, he saw it as his win and that Alto had forfeited. He then retreated the spear and walked up to Alto's servant.

Ritzy,

"Thank you for letting me borrow the spear, this was an entertaining duel".

As Ritzy was taking his leave, Alto became furious.

Alto's mind,

'How dare a lowly bug as you defeat me like this! I am an esteem noble that comes from a great family of skilled horse riders and spearmenship'.

Alto was typically kind to other nobles, but he wasn't so kind when it came to his spearmenship. It would cause him to lose all sense of etiquette if his reputation in combat was sullied.

Alto's mind,

'I know, he just got lucky. Yeah, how can a peasant like noble be better than me in spearmenship. That's gotta be it!'.

Alto then with the full intention of trying to redeem his loss, ran to Ritzy and sent a strike to Ritzy's abdomen.

Ritzy who already had his magic presence active before the battle, noticed Alto's movements. He quickly turned around and swung his left leg upward into the air, using his leg to throw the spear into the air. Causing Alto's spear once again hit the air.

Alto then panicked and worried for his life.

Alto's mind,

'Goddammit, why won't you just die! Wait, he's just standing on one leg. I just can charge at him with my shoulder and cause him to lose balance and fall. That way I can still beat him'.

Ritzy's mind,

'If only you just stayed put, I wouldn't have to embarrass you anymore. I don't like fighting for no reason. Wait, are you trying to still attack me by pushing me down with your body?'.

'You poor, hopeful, naive, fool'.

The next moment, Ritzy use the foot that was in the air to kick down on Alto's head. The next moment Alto's head hit the floor and left sunk into the ground. Half of his head was in the ground. Only the back of his head and ears could be seen, not even his cheeks.

Alto's body had catapulted from Ritzy's Brazilian kick to the floor.
