Chapter 11 - Chapter 10: The Horde of Zombies

John put the apatite necklace of protection on, placing it around his neck, as he could instinctively felt the sudden small increase of his mana pool, from the magic item boosting his intelligence and wisdom stats.

"Papa... Enemy!" The little sylph girl Rosa spoke through her mental soul link, with her childish high pitch voice.

"She spoke! The little wind sylph spirit spoke. She called me papa. I'm much too young to be called a father yet." John uttered, having become a bit hysterical.

"John! Watch out!" Alex shouted at John to get his attention.

However, it was already too late, as John has his back turned away from the boy's restroom door when an Infected Zombie suddenly barged in and lunges towards him.

The boy's restroom door broke down, under the ceaseless ramming of a horde of Infected Zombies. The brass door hinge broke apart, revealing the screw threads and tip,  with attached wooden splinters.

Ravenously, the horde of hungry Infected Zombie, lunges forward, charging towards John's figure.

The apatite necklace of protection immediately activated, glowing brightly in blue light, as it cast a semi-spherical mana barrier around John's figure. It then saves John's life, hanging by a hair's breadth.

Like hungry wolves, the horde of infected zombies charges towards John, with their claw-like hands out, ready to tear him apart, but the mana barrier cast by the apatite necklace of protection hanging around his neck, managed to protect him from the horde of infected zombies coming to assault him.

"Waaagh! Stay back! All of you!" John screams at the top of his lungs, as he has fallen over on his bottom, out of fright.

Knowing that the magic item can cast a mana barrier, that last for the duration of 30 seconds. He immediately reacted, taking action first hand, before thinking.

Alex then raises his right hand upwards, pointing in the direction of the incoming horde of infected zombies, as he chanted the verbal incantation for the tier 1 fire magic spell fireball.

"Ignis Pila! Ignis Pila! Ignis Pila!"

Three tennis sized fireball then materialises in front of him, with his target immediately within his sight. He fired the conjured fireball magic spell at them.

The three red hot sized tennis ball then cuts right straight through the air, like a hummingbird, producing sharp wisp sounding noise.

The first conjured fireball struck the front lines of the infected zombie horde, as it exploded, sending many infected zombies flying backwards. This somehow triggers a chain exploding reaction, as the second and third conjured fireball are within radius, all blew up at the same time, as a result, producing a massive explosion.

The chain explosion ripped a giant hole in the boy's restroom, leaving a giant gap in the boy's restroom entrance.

Many infected zombies were killed in the process, as the massive chain explosion sends John flying backwards, strongly impacting against the wall. It caused a large dent in the concrete wall, as spiderlike cracks form all around him.

*Ding!*

Several blue screens notification began to pop up, one by one, covering his entire vision.

....

Alex instinctively knew that the mana barrier, casted by the apatite necklace of protection on him, protect have protected him. So he went all out blasting the horde of infected zombies in front of him.

John's body was flung straight across the room, with the apatite necklace of protection managed to dispell most of the damage, whilst escaping with a few bruises and minor bone fractures.

John laid against the boy's restroom floor, with his head leaning against the damaged concrete wall. "A bit too overkill, much... Alex. I could have been killed by the explosion, you know." He said, taking a short glance at Alex, who was right beside him.

"Get up! The sound of my fireball explosion must have attracted lots of Infected Zombies! We must hurry up and escaped before we become overrun." Alex said to John, his body feeling slightly tired, from overusing his mana.

His mana didn't finish recovering when he started conjuring up new sets of fireballs, now he has less than a quarter of his mana remaining. 'Damn! I didn't know that mana exhaustion can be this overbearing. It's overtaxing on both my mind and body... At most, I can cast the fireball spell two more times, before I completely run out of mana.' He thought to himself, as droplets of sweat dribble down the side of his face.

With the duration of the 30 seconds being used up, the mana barrier casted by the apatite necklace of protection ended, as it began to dispell around John.

The loud sound of Alex's fireball exploding, triggered in a chain explosion, echoes throughout the narrow corridors. It caused some parts of the school building to quake, as falling debris fell down from the ceiling, hitting the ground with a thud.

The sound of the loud explosion attracted the attention of many hordes of infected zombies, as they come rushing in from the opposite end of the narrow corridor.

The large horde of infected zombies is heading straight towards the boy's restroom, where John and Alex are currently at.

Their undying screams, filled with rage and hatred for the living, roared in unison, like a pack of hungry ravenous wolves, who has not eaten for days.

This caused a sense of chill to run down Alex's spine, getting goosebumps on his skin, as he sensed the dreadfulness within their current situation.

Alex then bends down and picked his sword scabbard up, that has been collecting dust beneath his feet. Whilst, brandishing his Heaven's Piercer on the other hand.

"Run! They are coming!" Alex shouted out in great Alarm. You could feel the panic and worry in his tone of voice. "Alrighty then..." John responded, as he groggily got up from the floor.

John and Alex then immediately run out of the semi-destroyed boy's restroom, as not so far in the distance, a swarm on infected zombies are fastly approaching their direction.

"Oh, Shit! They are coming! What should we do now!" John spoke in a hurry, as he saw a swarm of infected zombies steadily heading towards their direction. "We're heading up, of course. To the third floor." Alex responded.

"What! Why up the third floor? Won't we be trapped by the swarm of infected zombies?" John asked Alex.

Alex sighs, as they run towards the staircase. "Use your brain, you dimwit. What time is it now... It's lunchtime. So most of the infected zombies will be on the ground floor, gathered outside on the school playground. Get it!"

He gave a detail explanation to John, and John caught onto the idea, as he got the rough outline of the information.

According to their knowledge, public schools in the UK have a year system. 14 years in total, including reception as well.

At age 5 they start primary school, working upwards from year 1 to year 6. At year 7, they start high school up to year 11. Where they would study in a sixth form college for two until they are 18 years old, and no longer required to attend formal education by the federal law.

In the high school, they're currently attending, there are five years; Year 7 to year 11.

In each year, there are roughly six forms and tutor group, which divides the whole student year into groups of twenty to twenty-five students. Sometimes we get more student applicants enough to form another tutor group.

The tutor group are labelled from A to F, and sometimes G. The tutor group is then divided into factions, ABC and DEF. So there are roughly one hundred students in each academic year and five hundred students in one high school.

The narrow corridors were not wide enough to allow all of the infected zombies to go in at once. So at most only four to five infected zombies would be entered at once.

This somehow gives them a minor advantage to deal with five at a time, against two, instead of the whole horde.

"Wind Enhancement!" John shouted the skill name.

John casted the wind spirit magic Wind Enhancement on both of them, which gives them a boost in movement speed and attack speed.

Unlike magic spells that needed special incantations, to build the spell formula or magic circle. Spirit magic burrows the power directly from the elemental spirits, allowing them to directly manipulate and conjured up the element as well.

However, there were a few fast ones amongst the infected zombie horde. An infected zombie, a paled looking girl, with fast nimble feet. She outmanoeuvres the typical normal infected zombie speed, with assassin like movements. Her hair is completely white, disorderly, and wild, with split ends, much like a banshee.

As her nails are elongated, fused together with the fingertip piece of her bone. It made the infected zombie girl's hand look like razor-sharp claws.
