"It's not my fault that I was born with a great gift." Esme sulks.
I frown when knowing she's trying to gain sympathy. I sigh. "Fine. It's not your fault and I won't tell Edith where you are although she might get suspicious since I'm in Nagasaki. So, where's my present?"
"Always the same." Esme shakes her head. "But here. I got you two presents this time." She hands me two bags.
I open a bag and find a box and the other bag contains another box. "What is it?"
"I heard that Edith didn't allow you to take more than a few earrings so I brought you some. They mainly have something to do with skulls since I know you love them. The other box is cake. Although this club doesn't look like it sells cakes it does to regulars and hehe, I am a regular here so I thought you would like one." Esme explains pointing to each box.
"Thanks Grand Aunt Esme. Not to be rude but I have to get back to Nagoya since it's getting late." I stand up and bow to apologize.
"No worries. Just make sure that Benjamin gets killed but do watch out for that mother and daughter duo afterwards." Esme warns. She pulls me into a hug before letting me go. "Bye bye, Little Grand Niece."
"Bye."
I run back to the plane making sure not to ruin the cake. I get on and the pilot starts the plane and takes off. We reach the airport where Minori is waiting.
"How did it go, Young Miss?" Minori asks.
"Everything went good. Please thank Grand Aunt Esme again for me, Minori." I say. "You better go quickly or else Edith might know."
"Thank you Young Miss for your concern. If you'll excuse me." Minori disappears using her teleportation powers.
I get on the train and head back to Nagoya.
"I'm home!" I say when going through the door. I shut the door behind me and take off my shoes. I slip on my house slippers and walk into the kitchen.
"How was your day?" Ren asks from the couch.
"Good. Hello Reiji. Thank you for looking after Ren while I wasn't here." I thank Reiji who's cooking.
"No worries. I was thinking of cooking today. Nicholas got a butler who doesn't even allow me in the kitchen which really sucks when I crave for ice-cream." Reiji complains. "Anyway who else did you meet and what's in the bags."
"Grand Aunt Esme is in Nagasaki and wanted to meet so I went. We talked for a while and she gave me earrings and cake. Oh I hope it's rainbow cake." I say. I take the box of the cake and open it. "Yass!" I scream.
"Keep it down, Little Missy!" Reiji hits me with the spoon he was using to stir the stir fry.
"Wash the spoon, Reiji!" I command him.
"Okay, okay. Washing it." Reiji laughs and obeys.
"Thank god. You never know what the wind carries." I sigh.
"Who's Grand Aunt Esme?" Ren asks.
"She's Edith's older twin sister. She's very unpredictable. More unpredictable than Little Missy. Everyone was scared of her when we were young." Reiji answers.
"Why?"
"We were told that she'll kill us like she did her husband after getting children from him." Reiji explains. "All of the boys were petrified of her for years."
"There was this one time where everyone slept together in the lounge room when she came over to stay." I laugh remembering.
"Did she really kill her husband?" Ren asks.
"Oh yeah. She didn't even give him a proper funeral." I reply.
"Why? I mean why did she kill him?"
"Well Saisho heard that Esme found him sleeping with a man." Reiji says. His gossip mode turns on. "But everyone says that she only wanted children and not the man."
"Chikara-chan, what's your idea?" Ren turns to me.
"Huh?" I mumble with a mouth full of stir fry. I quickly swallow it and run around the counter to avoid Reiji's spoon. I poke my tongue at him before answering. "He didn't love her. Grand Aunt Esme fell in love with him but he never loved her but only her title. You see Grand Aunt Esme is the elder twin meaning Edith is the younger one. Only the youngest of the female Yukimura can take over the throne so Edith had a lot of attention on her while Grand Aunt Esme had none. So when her husband showed signs of care she clung on to him but it was all for show and he only wanted her title."
"Wow!" Ren exclaims.
"Yeah. This is why falling in love for a Yukimura is hard and we mainly tend to keep everyone at a distance."
"The worst part about all this was that man was her soulmate. Her destined one." Reiji says.
"It's great that he died." I sigh. "If he was alive he would be a thorn in her side and would corrupt her children."
The two boys nod.
"So what else did you talk about with Esme?" Reiji changes to topic back to our meeting.
"Well we were talking about her ability and why everyone is so scared of her."
"What's her ability?" Ren asks.
"Reflect. If you try to read her mind it reflects and she can instead read yours. If you try to hurt her it would reflect and you'd hurt yourself instead. Reflect is just as rare as shield but it's definitely better." I explain.
Ren nods.
"Anyway is the stir fry ready?" I ask Reiji.
Reiji looks at the stir fry and gives it a stir. "Give it 50 years and it'll be ready."
"Won't we be old by then?" Ren asks.
"Nope. We'd all barely look 20." I say. "The stir fry is ready. Let's eat." I grab a plate and steal the spoon from Reiji. I grab a huge portion of the stir fry and sit down at the dining table. I summon a fork and begin to eat after saying thanks.
"You couldn't wait for us?" Reiji asks, getting food for him and Ren.
"Nope. You're way too slow." I reply.
Reiji sits down across from me. "Don't you have a exam coming up?"
"Yup. Don't worry I'm going to pass."
"That's good. Just don't go too over the top or else Edith will scold you."
"I know. Aish Reiji, you're even more naggy than Aunt Alice."
"She won't be happy when she finds out you're cursing her."
"She already knows."
The dinner remains quiet until we all finish eating. I wash the dishes in the sink while Reiji starts to grab everything he brought with him.
"Bye." I call when hearing him open the door to leave.
"Bye, Young Missy. Don't get in trouble!" Reiji warns before he shuts the door.
The house turns silent with both Ren and I in the kitchen.
"So do you like skulls?" Ren asks. He sits on the counter and goes through the presents Grand Aunt Esme brought for me.
"Sort of. I love wearing skulls but it's mainly because I love skull and roses."
Ren nods his head. "So rainbow cake? I wouldn't of thought you'd have this taste."
I shrug my shoulders. "It's delicious and one of Halo cafe's popular dishes. Although the taste is different all rainbow cakes are delicious." I put down the last plate upside down to dry. I wash my hands from the washing detergent and wipe them dry on the kitchen towel. "It's getting late and we have school tomorrow."
"Mhm." Ren sounds in agreement. "Goodnight." He says and he goes upstairs first.
I grab the two bags and turn off the lights before also going upstairs. I go to my room and start eating the cake on my bed. I go through the dozen pairs of earrings that Grand Aunt Esme got for me and they are all in dark colors. Just the way I like it.
After eating the cake I put everything away and go for a quick shower before going to sleep.
