Chereads / A Darkened Apparition / Chapter 3 - 2094

Chapter 3 - 2094

I'm now at the ripe age of 6 years old. Sitting at the dinner table, I poked a piece of broccoli with my fork. The more I look at it the more I feel like there's no way I can eat this little tree, it looks fricken gross. Anyways we just got to watch the newest superhero movie, it was kinda lame in my opinion but eh.

The rowdy bunch of kids across the table were inversed in yelling about how awesome they thought the fight scenes were. I wasn't feeling the dinner on my plate to be honest, so I did what anyone would do in my situation and secretly fed it to our pet dog Barku.

Our nana Ms. Teresa brought him to us one day as a little baby husky, he was adorable like a cuddly wolf with white hair but now he's starting to get pretty big. He usually doesn't like me too much, but when I come bearing food he suddenly loves me and looks at me with those big ol' blue eyes.

I then grabbed the last piece of broccoli, and with a little slight of hand and some magic it disappears without a trace. Whoop whoop, another victory. Barkuu ate it then looked up at me for two seconds then took off running away, as if to say "pleasure doing business with you young chap" or something.

So with the obligation of eating that nasty food out the way I stood up to grab a soda out the fridge, when I got up the legs of my chair scraped on the wood floor making an obnoxious loud scraping sound.

The chattering that was previously filling the room stopped as all the kids and Ms. Teresa looked over at me. It was like I was under some kind of spotlight all of a sudden, eugh I hate this sort of thing.

"Eh heh um...I finished eating so uh...I'm just gonna head to my room now." I wanted to be a turtle and retreat into my trusty shell but unfortunately I'm just a lame ass human so I don't have a shell. Whack.

"Okay goodnight then...make sure to finish your homework before you go to bed...alright Des?" Ms. Teresa is nice, she talks in a sweet caring voice. Sometimes I wonder if my mom would have been a little bit like her.

"Kay." I turned on my heel to start down the hall before one of the kids called out to me.

"Sweet dreams cat brain!" It was Tommy, he liked to pick on me whenever to get a rise out of me for some reason. 'cat brain' was their lame ass nickname for me because of my ears, it didn't really bug me as much as it made me laugh a little bit really.

But I know the best way to respond, and it always makes Tommy mad. I turned around with my biggest chipper smile and replied.

"Yeah! Sweet dreams to you too man!" as I turned back towards the hallway I heard the faint sound of his lip smack, in this situation that's basically a bell signaling my victory for the night.

Guys like him only want others to suffer in order for them to feel better about themselves. It's honestly sad, he's only a few years older than me and I'm sure he has an emotional struggle that some of his age should never feel. Still though, that gives him no reason to take it out on me.

The hallway stretched down a good ways as there were 5 rooms on both sides. Mine was the last one on the right, usually I'd go straight inside but tonight was different.

As I gazed down the hall I saw Barku whimpering outside my door which was weird, though what was even more peculiar was the hall light at the very end.

It was blinking in and out, though all the ones before it we're just fine. Eh, the bulb is at the end of it's lifespan, I suppose.

"What's up Barku, you secretly wanted to hang out with me didn't you? I knew you couldn't resist my awesomeness." Except he ran away again when I walked up. That damn dog. What's a kid gotta do for some love around here? I pressed my lips together and made a sour face.

As I grasped the door knob in my hand I could swear I could hear someone whispering inside my room.

No one should be in there, my eyebrows scrunched together as I peered into the darkness behind my door.

"Is someone in here? Hello?"

The whispers stopped, there was something there but I couldn't make it out everything was just black. The light switch just had to be on the other side of the room of course, I stepped deeper inside all the while my eyes fixed on the weird shape over by my bed.

It was like an object that was covered with a sheet or something, I don't know but it definitely wasn't there this morning that's for sure.

Blindly I felt around for the switch, once I found it I pushed it up. Just before the light turned on the weird thing glided across the room and as the room lit up it's face was illuminated.

A woman with skin as white as paper, she looked like death itself and death was screaming in my face right now. I fell to the floor as she got closer her contorted hand reached for me.

I couldn't move at first as I was so terrified I crawled up into the corner and closed my eyes shut as tight as I could, my breaths caught so short I couldn't get air into my lungs.

She's not real, I'm just imagining things right? Yeah it's not real, it's not real I assured myself. When I opened my eyes she was inches from my face, her dried out lips moved but no words came out.

She just sounded like she was suffering in pain, I jolted towards the door on all fours in a panic but the door slammed shut by itself. Her cold disfigured hand grabbed my ankle and pulled me back. I was so scared that tears streamed down my face as I sobbed like any other 6 year old kid would right about now.

Suddenly, her hand let go. I sniffed my snot and tears back as I stumbled to get up to my feet and ran for the door like my entire life depended on it. It all happened so fast it was basically a blur, but I know that as I pulled the door open booking it for the dining room I heard her call out in a broken whisper.

"Please..."

My feet pounded against the floor as I ran back out into the dining hall, my heart racing. Everyone was still at the table carrying on like usual, though they looked at me with confusion written on their faces.
