Katie looked at her computer, speechless. She touched her button behind her ear and spoke to a colleague from her organisation. 'I was looking at the data Jack still has to work through. The Chief Executive Administrator is handing him cases that are too important. Is this his future?' Katie wanted to know. At the other end of the line, another woman was sorting blood samples for the important day and year. It took her a while to read the information from the surface of the erythrocytes.
She replied in horror: 'You have to get him out of the facility as quickly as possible. In the foreseen future, he should never come to the Agency. The longer he does the dirty work for you, the greater the chance that he will die.' As it turned out, I would have been killed at the hands of an agent. Katie couldn't understand why the professor didn't send a messenger. At least the messenger would have been a little girl who warned her. She walked through the heavily guarded corridors of the building, cursing. She sat in her seat, having to think of something. Suddenly her phone buzzed.
As soon as she picked up, she had been shouted at to come to the supervisor. She hated her job, but she still had to look after the future of humanity. If I had died in one moment, the world would have a big problem. Katie stepped into her supervisor's room. As soon as she closed the door, she was shouted at: 'Two agents who were wrapped up in a secret operation are reporting in but are still alive.' He approached her and insinuated that she had something to do with it. She kept denying it. 'Where exactly are the agents now?' she asked him. 'Not far from here,' he replied. She kept her poker face on and told him that she would gather information about them. She still couldn't trust her superior. They were still under suspicion from the secret services.
Katie left and locked the door. She pressed the invention behind her ear again before speaking to her group. She asked her colleagues if they could switch off the facility whose Camaras. Once the plan was finalised, she set the time for the game to begin. She ran along the corridors when she only had a few seconds left. She stepped inside. 'We have to go!' she looked at me.
Still confused, I pointed her to the camara installed in the corners. 'They're deactivated!' She ran off ahead of me while I enquired what was going on. She explained the events to me. I remembered the names of the people as I had seen them before. I approached the lift. Anyway, I had a bad feeling about it, opened the door and saw one of the men coming. In seconds, I pulled Katie into a pressurised room where she pressed against the wall.
I was able to use my Romantic Move in a different way this time. It took Katie a moment to realise what I was doing as she turned me to face the wall. This time she was facing me. They looked into each room as Katie grabbed me and kissed me. The scene between fear and ambition of two people lasted for several minutes. When one of them looked in, I grabbed Katie's thigh and she almost tore my tongue out. As soon as they were gone, we pulled away from each other and I got punched in the face. The woman could really hit.
We ran to the lift, which took us to the garage. Katie took out her gun when she saw how many of the opposition were waiting in the garage. 'Give us the boy,' they suggested, but Katie remained stubborn. She shot at the strangers, hitting some of them as we ran to our vehicle and drove off. A few shots hit the car, thought it was all over, but then we were chased. We passed every vehicle on the highway as Katie turned into an alley. I got a sweatshirt from her before she drove off. I wasn't sure where to go next, so I started walking. I felt like I was being followed, looking around me. Ordinary people were walking through the main street. I didn't stand out.
Suddenly I saw Elise, whom I could trust. I approached her and greeted her. She looked at me, confused as to who I was and how I knew her. She scrutinised me more closely. As soon as I introduced myself, she knew who I was. She turned away from the flowers and we went out into the street. On the way, she made comments about how young I was and that she also had a daughter around my age. I listened and nodded. She went on to ask about her friend, whom I had met while looking for Mr Albini. I wasn't allowed to talk about it, but I didn't know exactly what had happened to her. She just nodded, having been able to visualise the situation for her. Her expression was tense. Why was she looking after strangers?
We walked into a side alley, away from the crowds. We usually kept walking as I surveyed the neighbourhood. A man lying on the roof of a block of flats caught my eye. It took me a moment to realise that it was a trap. While Elise continued talking, I pushed her forwards, into the cover of a vehicle. Suddenly I was hit like a sandbag in the stomach. I felt the pain as I fell to the ground. The second and third shots had also hit me. By now Elise had also realised the situation we were in. She howled. I moved forwards carefully as a capsule hit my ankle bone. My foot was dislocated and every further push from the ground hurt. I held out my hand for a while until Elise grabbed it and pulled me towards her. He fired the last shot of his magazine. Shooters fired five at a time before having to reload. That takes about half a minute.
The shooter wasted three of his capsules on the vehicle when he took more accurate aim and hit me in the back. Now I could no longer walk. I suppressed the pain and looked at Elise, who was still in shock. I tried to calm her down despite the pain. 'The shooter has one more shot before he has to reload. This is the time to act!' I held her painfully by the shoulders and shook her. She breathed in and out deeply. 'So what's the plan?' I smiled at her and told her to grab me under the armpits. I then took off my shoes and reached under the vehicle.
The last shot was fired. 'Now! Now!' I screamed loudly as she pulled me away into an alley. More shots were fired. All but one, which hit one of my veins, missed. I cursed. It hurt more. We are at their mercy. The gunner replaced his capsules as a blue van pulled into our lane and stopped just in front of us. The back doors opened and a gun fired down the shooter from the roof like a bird. By now I was feeling dizzy, having lost too much blood. Elise grabbed me in her lap and looked at me, crying. 'Please don't die!'
The floor fills with a pool of blood. The ground is cold, I am cold. I'm afraid of death. A man with glasses ran to me, checked my pulse. 'He hasn't got long,' he said to his superior, who was sucking his nails. He cursed. 'We don't even have a body into which we can transfer his consciousness!' By now I was gazing up at the blue empty sky as Elise offered herself to him.
Without wasting a huge amount of time, one of the scientists came and put a helmet on each of our heads. A doctor then came and explained to me what I had to do, injecting me with adrenaline. I promptly opened my eyes and looked into Elise's eyes. I gathered the last of my strength to transport my consciousness. The distance between her and me took too long. I had already left my body. I was between her body and mine. I couldn't let go, for whatever reason. At some point, the distance between my soul and my body was so wide that her eyes darted in, causing her head to move backwards. 'He made it,' the scientist said with relief. The others also took a deep breath. 'What happens to him now?' Elise wanted to know.
Of course I can't live in Elise's body until the end of my life. The scientist approached her. With the transfer of consciousness, I had exhausted my body's life energy. My body itself was no longer breathing and no longer had a heartbeat. The time travellers took my lifeless body with them to repair it. Until they renew my body, I am a small component of brain cells in Elise's brain, which have no control over her body at all. He went on to say that Elise should get on with her daily routine and train me. Train is the wrong word, I should take possession of her body, which will be difficult. I would have to practise for days and weeks until I could do it. Of course, it depends on the body and its condition. Elise understood what had to be done. Shortly after the police sirens were heard, the last bloodstain had been removed. The time travellers drove off. Elise ran off down the side street, on her way home.
The human brain is a fascinating organ. It always works. Women have a smaller brain than men. It used to be thought that women were dumber because of this. Today we see it differently. Women are more generous than men, most of the time. Women also die later than men, often because of heart and circulatory problems. I woke up when Elise started running. I saw what she saw and immediately knew it had worked.
I felt the steps she took in sandals. I felt the cold air running through her dress. I noticed my weight on my chest and hips, unbelievable how heavy I felt. Elise realised that I had woken up, so she started talking to me in a whisper. When I was able to answer her, she hadn't heard me. It was as if I was trapped in her body. When I tried to take control of her body, she suddenly felt a headache.
She stopped and leant against the nearest wall. Was that me? I stopped trying and turned my attention to her memories. Elise Wenford, about fifty years old, gave birth to five children. The eldest, David, aged twenty-five, lives abroad and is studying computer science. Isla, in her early twenties, works as a banker. Like the other children, she still lives with her mother. Sophia, nineteen years old, teaches primary school pupils, while Mia, fifteen, is studying therapeutic sports and medicine at university. Chloe, six years old, goes to the crèche. She doesn't have a husband, but has a boyfriend called Joe, who is a senior doctor in a clinic.
Elise opened the door to her home. 'I'm back,' she mentioned as Chloe ran to her. Mia also came after her. 'How are you?' her mum asked, stroking her two youngest children. Both were happy to see their mum, showing off their drawings and emphasising how much fun they were having. Elise persuaded them to switch on the television while she entered their kitchen. She cooked chilled peppers, salad and Chinese noodles. Within a few minutes, dinner was ready. She took out the plates and cutlery and shouted for the children, who then arrived.
They ate together, and I was struck by how much Elise ate without being obese. The human brain needs twenty per cent of the body's total energy. I wondered whether her brain energy wasn't around forty per cent. Those present ate their bellies full, after which the children disappeared back to their animated series. Elise got the dishes ready for the dishwasher before going upstairs to her room, changing into her nightdress and jumping into bed. It didn't take long for her to feel the tiredness, after all, she was still carrying my soul in her body, which is not easy.
Just before falling asleep, Elise looked at her phone as her thoughts became clearer. She had a hundred thoughts open, which she asked herself. At some point, she put her phone to one side, lay down and closed her eyes. She then began to speak to me: 'If you want to take over my body, I feel a headache coming on. So try again.' Without hesitation, I tried to open her eyes first. It took minutes for me to access the nervous system via Elise's neurons and I opened my eyes with difficulty and was able to see. Elise praised me when she tried another step. I then made contact on the neurones passing under her lip.
Here, too, I only took control with difficulty. Elise felt how I tried several times in vain and it didn't work. After a few more minutes, when I took over and opened my lips for a short time, she praised me again. I was too weak to continue. As I pushed back from the surface, Elise was thinking. It wasn't that she didn't want to work with me, but rather that she felt I couldn't learn from her. After all, Elise had to work from early in the morning until late in the evening, so it would be difficult for me to develop my skills. In addition, the family is going on holiday early for a wedding in three days' time. So that I could practise during these few days, we agreed to include Elise's daughter Mia in the whole thing, as she has hardly any commitments.
By now it was getting late in the afternoon. Elise herself was still planning to go to her company so that she could go on holiday earlier. She stood and called Mia over, who arrived after a while. Elise asked her to sit next to her before making a confession and talking about me and my abilities. She also explained why she could no longer help me. Mia looked at her blankly. As soon as Elise had finished speaking, Mia asked if her mum was ill. She didn't believe I existed.
Elise spontaneously replied in the negative, asking me to take control of her eyes. This time the takeover was easier as I was already linked to the job. 'See, he's doing it.' Elise knew her daughter still wasn't thinking about it. 'Why don't you try it,' Elise prompted her. After all, she had nothing to lose by not being able to change into her body. Mia sighed as she let herself in. She approached her mum, who told her what to do. With her green-blue eyes, Mia stood opposite her mum, who then gave me permission to jump into her. With all the energy I could muster in the meantime, I tried to jump into her body. Just like last time, it took a while before it worked.
Mia pulled her head back. 'What was that?' she wanted to know. But I soon grabbed her consciousness to show myself to her. To do this, I formed a black room and brought her into it. Her brown-blonde hair, her blue eyes scrutinising me. Then her curved cheeks appeared. Finally, her face closed with her mouth and her body burst in. I approached her and shook her hand. She looked at me in confusion. It didn't take long for her to realise who I was.
Her eyes opened: 'It's you my mum was talking about!' I explained my situation to her and that her mum had helped me. 'I don't want to be a burden to you, which is why I need to practise gaining control of other bodies!' By now she believed everything I said. She nodded and accepted to train me. I was pleased. I let her go back to reality, where her mother held her desperately by the shoulders. When she came round again, her mother took a deep breath. The matter was settled.
Elise could go about her day at work while I practised with her younger daughter. It was also another advantage for me, as she possessed nature's knowledge of what is good for the body and mind. I felt my new weight, my new body and the hope of soon being independent.
