Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

There was a soft knock on the door. As an old lady approached it, She took a peek through the peep hole. She saw adventurers, and hid. She had been trying to avoid the collectors that have trying so desperately collect a debt she made on her last visit when she made a quest to find something she lost a few days earlier. And now they were already at Her doorstep, with weapons in hand. 'Oh good lord, please...' But the adventurer knocked on the door saying "Hey lady! Your payment's due, pay now or we're gone have to arrest you!" A police siren's beep was heard. "And don't think you can scuttle outta this freely! This time we've got the co-" suddenly the adventurer's voice was stopped. "H-hey! what are you-" another soft knock was done on the door, followed by: "Song's delivery service..." In a low, deep and soothing voice...

The lady stood up from under the table, and answered the door.

She saw 2 collector-type adventurers, standing behind someone more recognizable. Someone more, reliable. This someone wore 3 layers worth of light iron metal, plate on top, chain mail at the bottom, and leathery pads in between. He wore a visor helmet that made it hard to look at his face, and whats more, he had a simple short sword strapped onto the side of his utility belt. And on his back, slung a large, leather bag and on his side slung a small leather pouch. She knew this character, and he went by a simple name.

"Oh, hello..." She panicked as the collectors and police officer behind the post man looked at him with suspicion, the post man then opens his small pouch and then pulls out a small letter. "A letter of notice; from the guild..." He hands over to her "Oh, y-you're with them?" She was starting to panic, If she had to pay with what little pension she had right now. She wouldn't have enough to feed Her little grandson for the following week, and He is still in elementary! He wouldn't last a day in the real world, and more appropriately, He wouldn't last a second as an adventurer! And his father, who is already a successful adventurer, probably wouldn't be able to answer here plee for help.

"P-please, isn't there something you can do for me? we've known each other for a long time already, can you please help me with my d-debt?" the man remained silent, and then pulled out another letter "A payslip; from the Senior's pension department of the international bank of U.S." He hands it over to her, and in her disappointment, She could only feel the silhouettes of 2 nickels and a small pad made of ,what She could already assume, 20 dollars. "Heh, I guess this is it, I guess this is just your job, right?" But then the man pulled out another letter, and this one "A letter of apology; from the guild" much to the surprise of both of the collectors behind him, they pushed him aside and grabbed the letter before it was even given.

"Gimme that!" They said as they tore the letter open read it aloud "Dear Mrs. Geraldine Myers, we are truly sorry for imposing a debt of great degree against first-time requestors. Because of your son's helpful cooperation with the recent 'Dragon lord's' dungeon clear, your debt with the guild has been cleared?!" they looked at the post man in disdain, and then the old lady swiped Her letter out of the adventurer's hands, "Tch! Myers?! As in the Dragon slayer Craig Myers?!" they looked at the old lady once more, who read the letter and then let out a great sigh, "Hah, My little boy..." She held the letter in her hands with meticulous care. But then a clipboard magically appeared out of nowhere, and It was being held by the post man.

"Sign it here, and here..." He said while pointing to spare spaces near the terms of service line and address' owner's signature. "Ah, thank you young man thank you-" "Hey bud!" the two adventurers place a hand each on the post man's shoulders. "We were just about to collect our pay from this old hag, and now you just robbed us of that chance, you know what's gotta happen know..." He clenched a fist and pointed it towards the post-man, the second adventurer said "Unfortunately for you, now that we know that this lady's ol' Myer's mom, we want to direct our little 'pain' as adventurers, towards someone else, and don't even try, we've got the police's backing with us this time..." they said while pointing towards a police officer standing right outside their car.

The post man shrugged both of them off and walked towards the police man, "Hey! You little shit get back here!" the post man talked for a moment with the police officer and presented an adventurer's card, the police officer then looked at the two adventurers for a moment and then sighed as he shook the hand of the post man. And then entered his car, and drove off.

"W-what did you do?" they screamed at him, and in response, both of the collector's cards light up and they can already tell what he just did "There's a court not far off from here, nobody uses it on a Sunday..." They both looked at each other and smiled, and then with a lax attitude, one of them said "Alright, lead the way..." The old lady could do nothing but watch as they walked away from her house, She said under her breath: "Be careful..."

...

The post man lead them into the abandoned part of the neighborhood, meaning rarely anyone can see what's going on outside, which was nice for rogue-types such as them. Because It means they can take proper advantage over the poor soul that ruined their paycheck. "Now!" as they both unsheathed their knives, which were some C-ranked Iron daggers they stole from another unfortunate adventurer, and tried to stab the man's waist with a classic pincer formation. But like he anticipated their attack he simply ducked down as their daggers crossed, and struck each other.

The post man then jumped up and dashed away, "Hey! he's getting away!" as they followed him into forest. As any proper adventurer is given training, based on their class, rogues excel at places with a lot of obstructions, such as forests, which complement their ability to weave well through obstructions and as well as sneak attacks. Which meant unless they were facing a ranger, they wouldn't be really in serious trouble against a simple post-man.

"Alright little shit, come out and face us like a man!" They said as they lurked within the foliage, and then they saw a silhouette of the post-man. "There you are!" as one of the adventurers attempted to stab it, but was only greeted by a little scarecrow made out of light plate pieces, "Huh? a scarecrow? when did he?" But then before he could react, A large club hits his face, and then he fell to the ground with a low thud. The post man, who held the club, breathed heavily. However, he was already anticipating where the other adventurer was, and to his surprise. He attacked from behind. His dagger attack, which meant to hit his spine, instead slid towards his shoulder, where it dug into the light leather and got itself stuck in-between an iron plate and his left-side pauldron, blood was starting to pour out as the dagger did.

The post-man went prone and pulled himself towards a tree in-front of him, while the adventurer behind him picks him up by his leather collar and tossed him into a tree. He laughed as his head hits the tree's base hard, "That's for stealing our paycheck from us this morning!" He pulled the Post-man upside-right and then dug his sharp leather heel into his diaphragm, which wasn't protected by light armor "That's for making fun of us earlier!" and then with the Post-man's short sword that he pulled out from his scabbard, He pointed It's tip towards his visor. "And this, this is for clubbing my bro in the face..." As he raised the sword up high, trying to get as much momentum into the blade. It suddenly jumped out of his hand. "What the-"

He felt a sharp pain hit his finger, and he dropped the short sword into the ground. "Agh! my fuckin' hand!" He said as he held his right hand with his left. He heard rustling behind some tree foliage and ferns, as a female police officer came up with a glock in hand, "That's enough, put your hands where I can see 'em..." Like a signal, several other police officers surrounded the attacking adventurer. Like bees around a flower. "Stephen!" the female officer said aloud, She runs towards his side and inspects his body. The adventurer then said: "Officers! That Post-man tried to attack me, as an Adventurer, I am given the right to defend against warring adventurers!" He smiled devilishly, but then an officer puts a hand over his shoulder "Nice try, kid. But that trick's starting to get old for me, you think I can't tell who's who?" In a texan accent, He smiled as he cuffed the adventurer. "Been trying to figure out who's been robbin' most of the folks around this parts, we didn't mind the collector's and their jobs..."

"And then the disappearance's came along..." the female officer said, while handling the slightly unconscious Post-man "We suspected rogues were behind these disappearances, and this hard-boiled evidence, as witnessed by multiple police officers. Can back that up now..." She said as she walked away with the Post-man, She said to him: "You should stop trying to act all heroic man, It's tiring trying to save your butt every time someone tell's me that you're in trouble..." The post-man sighed, and says:

"It's just my job..."
