Chapter 25 - First fight in the Soul Hazard area

"Pleasant moment? What do you mean by that?"

As we started running towards our target, Eve asks. With her eyebrows burrowed, she is the picture of puzzlement.

As I want to answer, I suddenly realize that nothing really happened back on the field! While I could feel her up for a short moment, she was unconscious during the entire treatment. Admitting now that I have touched her all over before she was able to express her content would be potentially disastrous!

Thankfully, our focus gets shifted from the talks to the hunt. When we are only seventy meters away from the Gyurna, we slow down and start treading carefully. As to why we don't bother to act covertly at greater distances, every living being is getting accustomed to staff. Back on earth, my house was located near the railway, forcing me to listen to the cacophony of the passing trains. Just as my father told, it took me only a few days to get used to this annoying sound and stop paying attention to it at all!

The same applied to the demonic beasts. Living in the forest, they were constantly treated with various sounds coming from all direction. While their higher power level translated to better hearing, it didn't change the crux of the matter. Even when the beast was able to discern the sound of the sticks cracking under our mass, it would rather continue sleeping that checking out every single small alert.

With my right hand extended forward, I tread slowly towards the position from where my damage will be the greatest while still leaving me a bit of time to fight back or escape in case this gyurna will decide to defend itself instead of running away.

As the strength of my current target is unknown, I don't want to risk anything. Paying my utmost attention to my footing, I slowly crawl forward, inch by inch, centimetre by centimetre.

Not making any sound while moving would be a viable solution in the lower level areas, but at the soul hazard level of danger, I need to make some sounds resembling passing of some kind of night animal. With the sense of hearing giving way to the pure battle intuition, staying completly silent would only alert the beast about such an anomaly!

When I finally reach twenty meters, I raise my hand high into the air with my thumb hovering a few millimetres over the storage ring. Unsure if the usual amount of strength would be enough, I decide to move just a tiny little bit closer to use the full power of my sword.

When I'm only about fifty meters away from the gyuarna, its long ears suddenly spike up as if they picked an unusual sound. Noticing how the muscles under the skin of this demonic beast are moving, I bring my sword out of the storage ring right to my hand, I slash with all the might that I currently possess!

KABOOM!

As the shockwave lands on the gyuarna sleeping place, It turns a comfy spot into an ugly depression in an instant. But to my surprise, there is no sign of the beast anywhere close to its bedding!

Dash!

In the last moment, I push myself to the side. Barely avoiding the hit, I try to slash at the gyuarna legs to hinder its movement. From how fast it reacted to my attack, it is either insanely fast or possesses some kind of strange mental techniques, influencing the perception of the others.

As the book never said a word about the second possibility while continuously stressing out how one should vary of its agility!

Sadly, my attack misses, destroying some tree a few meters away. Compared with the wood massacre that I committed while testing out the way windslord works, the damage is not as great as I would like to!

Block!

In a moment, the gyuarna tries to push me down and scratch me to death. Without any chance to escape right now, I shield myself with the bread blade of the sword. With tho of the demonic neats paws pushing onto the blade, I resolve myself and turn the blade around only to get blasted away the very next second!

Ugh, I forgot about it. The wind-wave doesn't care whether It's an ally or an enemy. As a pure manifestation of my own strength, it simply follows the direction at which my swords strike, always ready to add some wind to the mixture of a bloodbath.

As soon as I get up to my own two feet, I see two parts of the gyurna, lying on the two opposing sides of the playing field. If I were to rationalize what happened, during the fight, it would be a deep cut that is capable of splitting the prey in half! Only when the wind-wave arrived, did those now separate parts flew to the two opposing ways.

"Blop! ^^"

"Defeated the greater Gyurna"

"Killed the greater Gyurna"

"Adding 748 experience points!"

"Gained the essence of the dead living"

"Gained the path Executioner

Gained the Path - Juan!"

What is this insane amount of exp? What are those items?!

While Eve busies herself with gathering all the potentially valuable loots, I can fully focus on how marvellous effect did this one fight brought to me.

Over 700 exp? Considering how I ran around the field before, it's not fair at all! But what can I do? With God sending me some knowledge about the world and the Bonger itself, I should be already recognised as a scammer and ungrateful piece of shit!

With my senses blurring, now I only want to find yet another of those bastards and finally level up! I didn't get a chance to even test out the new recipes that we received from the cooks. Even if my mind is full of questions, I still diligently follow the orders. Even if I killed off most of the enemies attacking us, I can't say

"Can you find me another one of this kind? I heard that their horns should fetch a nice price on the town's market!"
