I could see the tracks. Her tired running and trying to slip away. There were tracks where she stumbled. She was always a klutz. Five men were following her. Rage boiled in me at the thought of someone trying to kill her. I quickened my pace. When I get to the clearing, I am too late.
The man had stabbed her.
I stand there, dazed. It wasn't possible. I shake myself out. I need to still save her. It's not too late. The man laughs hysterically, talking about a huge reward he will have all to himself. I slice his arms and feet off. My quickness didn't give him time to react as I slice his head off.
Without looking at the body, I rush to her. "Anemone!" She held her hands tightly to her stomach but there was blood pouring everywhere. I could see how hard she was trying to focus, her long lashes fluttering. Her hair had tumbled down in a tangled mess.
Even knowing, my hand still reached down to heal her.
She had lost too much blood. I could feel my tears falling. My forehead touches hers. "I'm sorry, Anemone. I came too late," I cried to her. "I'm sorry!"
"Fa-fairy prince..." she whispered. Her voice came out weak. "It's okay... Help..." She choked as blood started spilling out of her lips. I wiped the blood from her lips. She struggled to continue. "Get... gold orb..."
I shake my head slowly, not wanting to leave her side. "Anemone, please don't die. Please!" My other hand caressed her cheek.
She smiled sadly. "I'm sorry... Please," she pleaded. "Gold orb..." Watching her struggle hurt.
"Okay!" I compromised. "Stay here, alright? Wait for me to come back!" Don't die on me, Anemone! I look around and see a gold egg in the shrine past the pond. Above it, loomed a gold bird about to fly. I jumped over the water and grabbed the egg. Rushing back quickly, I hold her against me. My hands held her face, checking if she was concious.
"Anemone, I have it. What do you need this for?"
She looked at the orb. Anemone raised a bloody hand to rest on the egg. It was bigger than her hands, shaped like an egg. Her gaze was losing focus. "Anemone!" I shaked her face. Her eyes fluttered close. "Aneeeemoooneeeee!" I scream at her. Her eyes didn't open.
I press my face close to hers, rocking back and forth. I cursed at myself for not being there earlier. I hold her closer. Her body was cold and limp. More tears kept falling over and I wipe them away from her delicate face. A loud noise echoed close. I knew it was the beast.
I smoothed her hair from her face. "I'll be back for you, okay? Stay here for now," I whispered. I press a soft kiss on her cold lips before laying her down gently. I stood with my sword in hand and moved away from the spot.
Walking into the clearing, I saw the magic beasts. It had a snakelike head with a long neck attached to a bear's body. It hissed at me, threatening. I smiled sardonically. This beast thought it could kill me? I released my beast, darkness covering the whole cavern.
