Chereads / Red Anemone / Chapter 19 - The Fairy Prince POV

Chapter 19 - The Fairy Prince POV

His mother sent him to pick up flowers for her. Not just any flowers, but red anemones. Only one noble grows this horrid flower. As his mother went to visit the nobles, she sent him off on this task. After he made preparations, he went off to gather the flowers. He spotted the field from a tree and jumped down to look closer at the flower.

They didn't look pretty to him. More like weeds. He crouched down to pick the flowers. After he gathered half a bouquet, he felt someone kick his stomach. Falling down, he clutched his stomach in pain. He stood to see what had hit him.

A chubby dirt covered face with red hair. His eyes were riveted by the color. It was vivid and bright. Like a red flame, it blew lightly with the winds. The child's features were delicate and pale, cheeks flushed from the obvious running. Long lashes fluttered as the child's gaze kept looking away from him.

Yet, despite how pretty the boy was, he yelled at him. For good reason, after what he heard next. Fairy Prince? Was he stupid? After listening to him for a bit, he decided to ignore him but he still prattled on. Why would someone named the boy after this weed he was picking? The child's next words caught his attention again.

"You're a girl?"

His eyes roved down her again. She did look more like a girl but her clothes were more for a noble boy. She also did look like her namesake. Her red hair framing her pale face and black eyes like pebbles. The pebbles that were filling up with water. Oh, she was crying. Guess he should say something meaningful. Watching her dewy eyes brighten, he sighed internally.

Trying to run away when she's still just a kid? As he kept staring at her animated face, he wondered why her cheeks look like marshmallows. He reached over and pinched them, lecturing her as an excuse. They were soft! She was frowning at him. Guess he should finish his task... yet... she still kept talking.

The next time he saw her, she was running with her braid flying behind her. When he got to her, he saw her face was covered in tears again. Ah... she was questioning why he was here. Why was he here? Probably because she really did interest him the last time. He had never seen anyone with so much emotions in one minute. His eyes were caught on her clothes.

She was wearing the noble girl's dress this time. They looked good on her... for a child. He was amused she kept acting like an adult though. This time, he couldn't hide his amused smile. Those marshmallow cheeks were filling up with color. She was angry at him about something. The more he interacted with her, the more intriguing she was to him.

She really was an idiot, always running off. Even when she gave that sheepish smile when her stomach grumbled. Watching her stuff her face with those gourmet cookies was also entertaining. She would be fun to play with during his free time. Her reactions were genuine.

As the days pass by, he found her more interesting and different from the people he talk to. More honest and simple. Her idiocy grew on him, making it a expectation. He was sad to see her go back home every time but it gave him a chance to plan. Plans to see how he can fool her the next time they meet. This always made him happy.

Believing that he's a fairy prince, he was able to fool her. Giving out information that could be true or false, her face would always light up. It was fun playing with her... Until his mother told him the news. He was being sent away for two to three years. That was one of the things he had in common with the weed. They had roles they were forced to be.
