Chapter 3 - 3 - Making The Best of The Situation

"Oh Anemone! These are beautiful!"

Anemone smiled up at her mother happily. After bidding her newfound friend good bye, she had rushed to find her mother to hand her bouquet of flowers. "I picked then from our garden, mother! There was so many!"

"Oh my! We must go there to look at the blooms together then!" she answered back with a light laugh. Anemone smiled hearing it. She loved her mother a lot. Watching her mother arrange the anemones in a vase with other flowers, she thought about the boy she had met earlier. She never really asked his name or who his mother was.

"Mother? I also met someone in the garden too. He was picking flowers too. Is he a new servant? He was a boy my age."

Her mother turned and smiled at her. "A boy? Hmmm... We didn't get any servants lately." She raised a finger to her cheek while pouting. "Ah! The crown prince did came by for a short visit with the Queen. Maybe it was him?"

Anemone scrunched her nose up in confusion. "What's a crown prince?"

Laughing, her mother went back to arranging her flowers. "This is why you need to pay attention to your studies, young lady. Did you give thoughts to your new role?"

Anemone sat down in a chair that was across from her mother, frowning. The one who had broken the news of her new studies was her mother but she knew her father was the one who made the decision. She also loved her father but she rarely saw him as he was always in his study with paperwork.

She had inherited her black eyes from her father and her dark red hair from her mother. Cayden, her younger brother, inherited their mother's beautiful golden hazel eyes and father's black hair. Her dark red hair was unique and not commonly seen with the nobles. She wind her small finger around the end of her short ponytail.

"What does being a Lady mean?" she asked.

"Being a Lady? Well it does have a lot of good and bad " her mother answered as she finished her arrangement. " You get to spend time with me, learn to dance, and dress up in pretty clothes!"

Anemone didn't like the last one. She was more used to her simple clothes that were easy for her to move around. What did she need pretty clothes for? "Does this mean I won't be able to learn my swordsmanship?"

Her mother crouched in front of her and frowned. " I don't think Ladies learn to fight." Anemone was filled with dread but then perked at her mother's next words. "But I don't see why you should stop! A Lady does need to defend herself if there is no Gentleman to save her!"

"Really Mother?!"

Her mother nodded. showing a encouraging smile. "I'll talk to your father and convince him."

"Thank you Mother!" Anemone wrapped her small arms around her mother's neck. "When do I start my lessons?"

Her mother laughed as she lifted her daughter up into her arms. "Well we still need to get your schedule fixed and finding tutors. Oh it'll be really fun. you'll see Anemone!"

Anemone hoped so.
