It was calm and quiet, the only noise that could be heard was the whirring of the engines but even they seemed quieter then normal. I could see the tops of clouds as they shone in the moonlight that touched them softly, contrast to the dark sky that was sprinkled with stars. The blanket I had on was resting there on my lap as I looked out the window of the plane. Everyone else was asleep but I couldn't seem to fall asleep just yet. Even Osric was asleep. Sitting in First Class I didn't bother with hiding my face, not what people would think I'd do but it's true. All these rich people who can afford to sit here would be a bit too busy with themselves to see who was sitting around them.
I decided to finally try and get some sleep. I got up and out of the seat trying not to wake Osric up, with a little flutter of the eyes I knew I failed but his eyes remained shut. I went to the bathroom then came back and forced myself into a state of unconsciousness. I shut my eyes and lay there. It didn't happen for a while but eventually I fell.
...
It was chaotic and dark. Mother and father were both there and I was standing in front of a door.
"No, don't, please don't,"
I was crying and shouting, feeling emotions but not knowing what they were, it was all a jumbled mess. I was a mess. This was a mess. I looked to be about 6-8 years old and with my small frame I was trying to I was guard a grey door that was heavily chained and locked from two adults who wouldn't mind killing me. The room I was in wasn't in the best condition, there was rust everywhere and cobwebs and the sort. It echoed all the voices and made them sound two times louder. My parents looked like they wanted to kill me just so that they could get through. Suddenly a voice from behind projected straight through the shouting and arguing.
"I don't need help, go away. "
It was said forcefully and with the mess I was in i didn't listen and I didn't care. Then, it was just the door, I couldn't let them get there.
"Did you hear me? I said go away! "
This was louder and the voice from behind sounded irritated. Silence followed through the loud remark.
It finally got through my thick skull and I realised what he said. I ran away as quickly as possible upstairs with tears flowing down my cheeks.
Then I heard a scream from below and I froze, then there was a feeling like I was falling, then a jolt.
I realised then it didn't happen. It was a dream, more like a nightmare actually. I saw the grey seat in front of me and the screen that was on the head of the seat, black and a bit dusty. Extra blankets in the net below and the blanket on my lap. I looked at and saw the sun. My eyes immediately turned, not able to take the amount of light. Then turning my head to the other side I saw Osric quietly doing something on the new phone that I bought him on the last day of the trip. The dream, the more I think about it the more I forget about it. All I know is that I was guarding a door.
"Finally awake are we,"
He said without looking up.
"Yep,"
I said back to him. I rested my head on my chin and we both spent the entire plane trip home just like this.
...
Taking a taxi I returned to the mansion but dropped Osric off a bit before arriving at the mansion, I told him to just wait. Currently he was at a bus stop sitting on the seat and waiting. This would make him look normal unless someone stood there with him to see how long he was going to stay there for.
I entered the house and headed straight for my father's study. Up the stairs I went as quietly as possible, it was early morning Sunday for both of them should be in the house.
I knocked cautiously on the door.
"Come in,"
Said a stern voice.
I opened the wood door by pushing on the spotless brass handle. The door barely made a creek as I walked in. My father had his work glasses on, it had a standard black frame and looked nothing special unless you looked closely. He was on his computer typing with a stack of sheets on the side. Looking back and forth he typed at high speed without looking up to see who was at the door.
I waited for him to finish as I didn't want to be rude to him, if I'm nice hopefully then he'll be more willing to accept the news.
He finally looked up and took off his glasses. His blue eyes stared, waiting for me to state my business. He hasn't kicked me out yet, good.
"Your back,"
He said to me in a disinterested voice.
"Yes I am, and I've got something to else to tell you,"
He remained silent, waiting to hear what I was about to say. I hardly every want to tell him something so he must be interested.
"I'm am going to buy my own house and move out of this one,"
This caught his attention, he narrowed his eyes at me and there was tension in his facial muscles.
"And where does the money come from?"
I thought about how I might answer this, then just decided I'd tell it to him straight.
"Remember that section of the business you gave to me for training then took back afterwards? I'm afraid when you took back that section you dropped a few bits and those bits have been growing. I've taken them into my own hands and I have my own business, my collected income over the years is enough for a comfortable life in a new house."
And the bomb dropped. He turned off for a few seconds to reprocess what I said over and over again. I was smiling from ear to ear mentally at the situation I had gotten him into.
"Ok then, pack up and leave on the condition that you will take over the family as heir,"
My eyebrows lifted the slightest bit. Using this chance for bargaining, I should of expected it.
"Deal, but I will only take over once I'm 20,"
I said, giving myself time.
"17,"
He argued back.
"19, that's all, I can always force myself out,"
"Fine. "
I walked out of the study with a deal made and went to pack my things.
