Chapter 68 - Combat Examination

The history test finished and I would say, it looked like more of an English test. I understood the concept it's just the way it's worded is just. Bleh. So formal to the point of confusion. So I'd say I've got the history part down, my English just needs to improve. And I thought that was one of my good subjects.

"Finish, our your pencils down and stand,"

She announced in a louder then necessary voice, that was smart that this wouldn't be an excuse for someone to say, I didn't hear you. She also stood up so that would be a visual distraction as well.

"Dismissed,"

She then said in her normal voice then she sat down again.

We went to the door and as always the shadow guards went to take us to our next class.

"Why can't you tell us what family your from?"

I asked one of them.

"Because all will be revealed with time,"

...

They learnt from the old man, I knew it! I'm an impatient teenager here! I can't wait for something as slow as time!

We reached our combat classroom, usually we'd have to move the desks but this time the desks weren't there, only a teacher's table and a nice big space in the middle. Then the last addition was my father, Mr Coltus sitting on his chair at his table looking as indifferent as anyone could be.

"Practical exam, I want you to sit on the floor horizontally in alphabetical order, my left to right."

I paused for a second to work out the order and the spacing then sat in my space and everyone else did that as well. This was a practice of taking orders and executing then quickly and quietly. Sort of like battlefield training.

He wrote somethings down at a rushed speed before giving his next order. We didn't need a repeat of the rules because no one would dare talk.

"Michael, secure the dummy in the left side of the room front the shadow guards and then bring it back here to the centre and perform set A through to G."

That was all he gave me but as we all know, doing something is much harder then just saying it.

The first task was the shadow guard. I really didn't want to go up against an unknown factor that may as well be a lot stronger then me, but I've got my potentials. I might as well get this over and done with.

With the instinct on passive I rushed the guard that waited in a ready stance with me claws out and planing to get him into a position of submission.

The wind passed by me, brushing my body with a cold breeze as I pulled my claws up my eyes turned and my instinct on conscience.

I quickened my steps. The last push I pushed harder as to go quicker. My eyes then widened as the shadow guard turned with eyes glowing. I reached out to pull and strike if needed. The shadow guard reached his own bare hands out. He grabbed me by the wrist which surprised me. So then with quick combat habits that I had been trained with I jabbed him in the soft fleshy part and shook and hand loose. I then jumped back but on the second step back I went in to fight with him again when I paused in my steps and jumped back again without going into his strike range. The objective is to secure and take not take out and secure. I'm an idiot!

I jumped right back in and faked a punch then stamped hard down on his toes. After he bent over on instinct I took my chance to rush behind him. He grabbed me but all I did was try and escape, no fighting no anything frontal.

As soon as I did by scratching me I got the dummy and went back huffing and puffing.

I did the sets with difficulty and really wanted to take my shirt of to cool my self down but I still need my life. With my father in the room if I took off my shirt he'd say it was a barbaric move and I should remain dignified. Such an uptight parent I know.

I ended up with an almost see through shirt that was drenched in sweat and my shorts stuck to my legs because of the moisture.

"Good, next, Anastasia Hu."

She was asked to do the exact same thing but the strange thing is, when she went near the shadow guard and was about to attack, both of them disappeared. I didn't know what happened because all that sounded was silence. The tension could be cut with a butter knife. Was this how it was with me? I couldn't exactly ask the tigers because i was afraid of what father would do. So I just sat there silently withstanding the tension. When she came out with the dummy she was panting and sweating.

The next person went in, Keung, the younger one of the brothers. He went in then in about 5 minutes only he came out! Was his martial arts really that much improved? Then he did his sets with flawless techniques and not a hitch in his breath was to be seen. You could see the sheen of sweat but that was it.

The other brother took a lot longer and came out very puffed. Those two were opposite sides of the spectrum. Eleanor came out in normal time though I'm not sure what that is, Dominic also the same.

"Exam over, shadow guards please escort the students out,"

And that they did.

They went back to lookouts behind us as I pulled out the sheet that had the order of our exams.

Oh, we have a break now.

"Back to the dorms,"

I announced to the guys and they seemed relieved and promptly, we all made our way back to the dorm for a well earned break.
