Chapter 65 - A Jackal’s Secrets

I cracked my eyes open to the warm light of the chandelier, I pulled out my red eyes on reflex because of the sudden light that I felt wanted to blind me. My eyes adjusted almost instantaneously as I turned my eyes back to normal colour after.

Everyone was asleep since it was night, I changed my eyes to red again so I could take advantage of the night vision and see the time on the wall. 11:30pm, close to midnight. I'm getting better at controlling my potential not only eyes but ethereal as well. Speaking of that I turned that on and left it on passive so I wouldn't wake the others up.

"Your finally up huh?"

I got asked by a person behind me coming from the direction of the bathroom. I recognised the voice instantly so didn't bother to turn around to meet the eye.

"How long,"

I asked while walking to the front door, I guess I wanted to go outside for a bit.

"Just the normal, Lioness treated you so you should be fine,"

I stopped in my tracks as my mind was racing.

"Tell me what happened to you Dominic,"

I was sitting on the floor ready to put my shoes on, but paused as the answer to this question might be the only answer I could get in this trip.

"Let's go where you wanted to go first,"

Secretive much? I respected his decision as the answer is more important so I continued to put my shoes on and he just slid a pair of slippers on. He opened the door and waited for me.

I muttered a quick thanks before walking outside and Dominic by my side.

"Is it that important?"

He asked. Obviously dumby, why else would I be so interested in that during the middle of the night. I just nodded at his question and he sighed at it.

"It was never my choice to marry into the Zevary family. My parents wanted the Rushell name to be the definite top of the high class and not tied with the Higashi, as you know when the heirs take over the rankings are discussed and it's a race against time. I bet the Higashi's are doing something to raise their status as well. As for why I'm so tied up around Eleanor is because my parents are watching. They want our relationship to seem as genuine as possible as to avoid the media attention and who am I to argue with them when they could just disown me with no problem. I also couldn't associate myself with you because of the fact that you would get pulled into the whole scheme as well. I acted towards you as my parents think I act towards strangers, even high class ones. If my parents knew the way I acted at school I would've be a Rushell, never mind Frier Rushell. That's why I acted like a total dick when we first saw each other again. I only started acting barely decent recently because it's common that people warm up to each other after spending a length of time. It would've been suspicious if I didn't start warming up to you. No one knows about this except you and I intend to keep it that way for a while, I hope you agree with my intentions Michael."

I listened to him quietly while we walked towards the forest. In my head I could point out a million flaws with his plan but I get why except for one thing.

"Why didn't you rebel, I know you, why wouldn't mind being disowned in fact in the right circumstances I can imagine you encouraging it. There's also the fact of why, if Yuuta ascends early then the Rushell will fall behind. It's a gamble on timing and advantage. So what else did your parents do?"

His eyes widened the slightest but then he just shook his head with a chuckle.

"What else did I expect from you,"

Now he's treating me like a kid?! Unbelievable!

Person I'm not that much younger then you.

"The shortest way to put it is, my brother's life is on the line,"

I paused in my steps for a millisecond, I'm glad that Elijah left. As if they could contain his anyway.

"Then the best plan of action is to secure your brother and rebel."

He looked at me incredulously.

"You are reckless despite how you look. You are aware of the number of risks in that plan yes?"

I nodded at his words.

"Let's relax first,"

I said as we came upon a sport in the heart of the forest which I discover during an accidental exploration trip into here. It's full of spirit energy and is aesthetic on top of that.

We cleared the last tree before we arrived at a rare body of water. In this forest there are hardly any because the trees mostly survive of the spirits and don't really have to rely on water. The small pond of clear water has the spotlight of the soft moonlight which illuminated its velvet surface of calm. The bushes around it surrounded the different natural appearance of water and separated it from the surrounding trees. It was a breathtaking sight and perfect location for potential practice.

Being the middle of the night the moonlight was our only source of light so I just pulled out my red eyes all the way but eventually pushed them back as my blue eyes adjusted to the dark. That happened quite quickly as that's what my eyes were trained to do. The black market didn't exactly have an abundance of light and that would draw attention anyways. Using the cover of darkness sounds cringey but is a bit advantage over people who don't adjust as quickly and this helps you get the upper hand because of the few more seconds of preparation.

We talked about a plan and his situation the whole time we walked back but while we were in the presence of a spiritual pond who wouldn't take advantage. We both trained for a bit in our secluded spots before heading back. I looked up at the clock on the wall with my normal eyes and read the time while heading to the bed.

1am, good morning everyone. Time to go to sleep.
