"Down, now turn left at the plant pot, ok now go down this elevator to the English department, now go along the corridors until you reach the 7th one, now go to the end and head down those stairs, now turn right and count three rooms. That's your English room!" Lixer was explaining how to get there. Why did the school have to be sooo big. I need a map of this place... at least I found my English room. The door was unlocked and the teacher was already in there preparing for the lesson I think. I pushed open the door hesitantly and went inside looking at the teacher for any sign of disagreement with me actions. The teacher was a male who was in a striped business suit and he was staring at his laptop ,scrolling, clicking and occasionally typing. He was white(not being racist) and quite tall he looked to be in his 50's and looked like a strict teacher.
I went to go sit at a desk in the middle of the classroom, I put my stuff down slowly and sat down. Checking the time it was 7:55am almost class time.
"Good morning mr Coltus, early to your first lesson I see, I hope you don't cause any trouble for me in future" said the English teacher without looking up from the screen saying his words in a monotonous tone that hid his emotions first impression.
"Good morning sir, I will hope for a good future in your class and to be a good student" I nodded mentally at my choice of words. My exterior still friendly but guarded. I prepared my pencil case and books ready for notes or reading. Students started to file in at 7:59am apparently they like cutting it close did people hate school that much?
Never mind about that, back to the classroom.
I will admit, I was naive to think that a normal school life could be so easily achieved just because I got my parents off my back. The topic for the lesson was persuasive texts, sounds normal enough right? Wrong. We were talking about how to negotiate in business deals and how to deal with political issues. Why does god hate me?!?!
A normal English lesson is that too much to ask for? 30 minutes till the end of class the teacher was beginning to stop teaching and see how much the class absorbed. He would say an argument, then point to a random student and would ask for an immediate rebuttal afterwards praising or scolding the student then gave feedback. This continued for the rest of the lesson, he picked on every student including me.
"The political parties are equal in power but don't care for humanity as much as they do for wealth. Mr Malligane how do you rebut?"
Phew, he used my middle name instead of my last, thanks the gods for this one sweet gesture. He must of been warned by the principle as well. And yes I have a strange middle name, my full name is Michael Malligane Coltus, nice to meet to readers.
The thing with rich schools like this is that everyone is in a power hunt and are part of an elite or a high middle class family. Every time a last name is called out they would make the connection and then deem they either worthy or unworthy of their time. Malligane is not a known family name so when I got called out everyone went on a gossip trip. Sigh, if only I didn't go to this school. Wait! I can cover up with my scholarship!! Yes I'm a genius. All I have to do is be good at everything, that's easy, then people will assume I'm a lower middle class that got a scholarship into the school. I'm love my genius self. I know, am an arrogant brat.
Back to class then.
"The power struggle is caused by the government and the politically influential families don't have much to do with it, Mr Higashi how will you rebut?" The teacher asked again.
Whispers were everywhere, the Higashi family is a very big and influential family, they are the most influential family nationally and are arguably the wealthiest high class family internationally. Did I forget to tell you that the Coltus family is not a high class family, we are considered noble class as we have sway over international governments and not just national. The Higashi guy was interesting, when his last name was mentioned and the whispers set off he rubbed his head with his hand looking very annoyed. Usually a guy like that would act exactly like a cliche and be all arrogant and 'I'm the best'. He was quite handsome as well having that k pop style face with baby face Japanese facial features making him look approachable but handsome. He was going to be a target of the girls no doubt. I shuddered remembering that, also felt a bit sorry for him, girls were already on a gossip rampage and eyeing him. No doubt the Higashi guy was use to it thought.
At the end of class we were given homework, it was a sheet of paper that had arguments related to the political pull and power ranking. We were suppose to write researched and detailed rebuttal for each one in our English book also reference and for extra marks write rebuttals for estimated future arguments towards the point. That's going to be a pain to get an a+ on but I need to look forward, do homework or people are going to find my last name. It's an obvious choice.
When we were heading out of class I went to go fin the Higashi guy. I have decided to make him my first friend!
I went out with the class and in among the people I looked for him, also known as looking for where the girls crowd. Sure enough a bunch of girls where eyeing him and walking behind him, I noticed him sigh and trying to ignore them. I went up to him and decided to be a saviour as I dragged him away from the girls, doubt they would want to associate themselves with a lower middle class scholarship boy.
"Hey Higashi," I said as I was closing in about 2 metres away, he looked up to meet my eye, looked back at the girls who then squealed and looked back at me with a hopeful face. I nodded, took him by the hand and dragged him away.
"Thanks for that, Malligane was it?" He said said, I was surprised he actually remembered.
"Yep, first name Michael, surprised you remembered." I said to him
"you had a good rebuttal, smart but low class. Doesn't that class you as a genius? I'd be an idiot to not remember. By the way first name Yuuta " he replied
The conversation was easy and I found him to be a nice and for once, genuine guy, never thought I would meet one. Another upside to being lower classed, that just means I'm no threat.
The next class was maths and I already had my maths books but looking at Yuuta's pile of books he didn't seem to get it.
"Your next class is maths, Micheal" Lixer reminded him.
"Your next class is maths, Yuuta" Yuuta's AI said.
"I'll come with you to your locker room and Lixer I've already got my maths books no need to remind me."
Lixer then sent a message,
I'll be messaging you for the rest of the day except for breaks to give you a bit of peace and quiet 'thumbs up emoji'
Yuuta nodded his head and lead the way as a smile crept up. I don't know why he thought the time to smile is now but hey at least he's happy.
His room was 0931 so it was closer then my locker to the departments, surprised to also see he knows his way around this modern castle. He seemed to know what he was doing. While walking, Yuuta seemed to be in a state of confusions and looked like he was thinking really hard about something. This was something because Yuuta seemed really smart and for him to be troubled by something seemed to be a rare sight because he shows it on his face unlike his other emotions.
"What on your mind buddy?" I said to him trying to sound not intrusive so he'd open up, I got an unexpected answer back thought, not really sure you could call it an answer because he asked a question.
"Do you have an A.I?" He asked
I was a little confused so I just answered a simple
"Yeah,"
"You look confused so I'm guessing you didn't really the manual part in the terms and conditions, the AI that you have talks but when it does, only you can hear it. It works with a handy gadget that I don't know about. Also I'm impressed, you must have gotten 100% on that ridiculous scholarship test to get an AI" he explained
I made the connection in my head, not everyone gets an AI then, probably only the rich and even if I did get 100 on that test if I was a middle lower class I doubt I would've gotten one, I knew it was too good to be true.
"I think I did," was all I answered.
"Usually only the high classes get AI's" Yuuta explained. He is smart, Yuuta seems suspicious of me but it makes sense, he saw me talking to myself.
The principle has some explaining to do, but first should I tell him, he's also an high class person and I'm a boy. I'll tell him when we arrive at his locker room.
We turned the last corner before Yuuta did all the security stuff and entered while I followed. His room was identical to mine so it wasn't anything special.
Yuuta noticed me not taking any interest, this must of been another privilege of the high class.
"Let me guess, you have a room identical to mine. Tell me Malligane, is this also to do with your perfect score on the test?" Yuuta asked with suspicion dripping from his tone of voice. Using my last name probably because he's suspicious of me. I don't want to tell him yet though, I only just met him. So I kept my mouth shut. While we took a long time getting Yuuta's books all of a sudden my eardrums were about to die.
"YOUR ABOUT TO BE LATE FOR CLASS!!!!!" Lixer shouted,
"What happened to not bothering me??" I answered back checking weather my ears still worked or not.
I showed Yuuta the time and he stood up and started running while saying something along the lines of where is maths or something like that. I ran after him with a smile.
"Hey, wait up!" I called out
I saw Yuuta up ahead as he turned around and had a big grin.
"Hurry up slow poke," he shouted back. Looks like the suspicious he had of me wore off when academics was on the line. I shook my head and picked up the pace eventually running side by side with Yuuta.
He looked at me with a surprised face and picked up the speed, I did in turn so we ended up racing to the classroom. I could overtake him too much because I don't know where the hell the Maths classroom is. He obviously ended up winning because I didn't know when to turn into the classroom.
"Your fast," he said while puffing
"You too," I said while barely puffing.
As you might of guess we were late, as you might of guessed again I am athletic because I did private tutoring in PE as well.
We walked in trying to gain composure and hope the teacher wouldn't notice them being late. That Hope was then sent to god and...
"YOUR LATE, Mr Malligane and Mr Higashi,"
God seems to hate us.
The maths teacher was an old lady, she had a bun and glasses, she was also Asian so that didn't bode well. Asians are usually the stricter ones (again not being racist) that also hold grudges, she mumbled something along the lines of rich late punctual brats. She continued teaching the class. Her mumbling was very hypocritical, Yuuta must of noticed as well because he giggle at her mumbles like I am doing, the thing is she herself is a high class lady, I recognised her right away as the Angeline Li, 2nd sister to Nathaniel Li, the head of the profound Li family. They were right in the middle of the high class families and referred to themselves as a profound family.
She lectured us the whole time about how mathematics is an essential skill for negotiating and making the most profit in a reasonable way, by reasonable she means able to explain to outer parties why the money was needed. Also when explaining math out loud it can sway an audience to trust you because you know what your talking about, but if it's fake they can easily pick you out because they aren't dumb ect ect. Yuuta and I both sat there playing with our pencils and talking when she wasn't looking. I have decided that I hated maths. The maths teacher can't do anything either, she clearly knows our last names, and too piss off the heir to a top high class family then on top of that a frickin noble family heir is not a good idea. Filing out of the dreadful maths classroom we went off brain dead and about to die of boredom. Well, off to the next class then.
