Chapter 18 - Religion?

If you already saw the title of the chapter you know what I'll talk about today. Right now I'm on a branch of the World Tree and am observing elves who're all in a praying posture. Some were bowing with their heads on a floor and some were just kneeling. But all of them were praying to the World Tree.

This trend started few days ago. One of the elves called Elizabeth started this trend. Looking at her praying many elves followed her and started to pray to the World Tree. It was their way to show their respect for their mother so I didn't discourage it even though I hate religion.

Even after the world ended and apocalypse started in my old world. Religion didn't disappear but it even got stronger. It was a way for people to have some hope. The useless people would always pray for some miracle to happen. The apocalypse was the greatest setting for religion to bloom. Many people thought apocalypse as gods being angry at them and started to pray. And religious leaders using that opportunity exploited the people as much as possible. During my travels in search of truth many times I saw religion depriving people of their all.

I really don't care if those people were exploited but many times knowing my wealth those religious leaders tried exploiting me. If I didn't agree they would send crazy fanatics after me. Those crazy fanatics even now give me chills. They feared nothing and that included death. My advice to everyone is that it's better not face those people who don't fear death. They would always win.

If the crude religion that I'm witnessing now was the same as in my former world I wouldn't care. But there was something different between them.

By infusing great amounts of mana into my eyes I could see that when elves were praying a small mana particles would leave their body and enter the tree. It was a big deal because things like these never happened.

When I killed creatures with the vessels I couldn't devour their mana and make it mine. After the creature dies his vessel starts to crumble and mana would slowly be absorbed by the surrounding trees. But this process would take decades or more. The vessel of the Ape King is still isn't broken and more than half of his vessel is strong as when the Ape King was alive.

This is the only end for the creature's vessel. It would be absorbed by the nature. No other creature could absorb it to make its own. All of this is because every creature in this world is different. When the neutral mana is absorbed by the creature that mana would then become exclusive to that creature. Just like the fingerprints for the humans. Every human has his own exclusive fingerprint. After that creature's death no other creature could absorb their mana because this new creature would have his different exclusive mana. Two different types of mana can't exist in the same body. That's why you can't absorb other persons vessel to increase your own.

But right now thousands of elves are giving their mana to the World tree and the Tree is absorbing it to make it its own. Even thought me and the Tree are separated we still at the same time connected. Whenever the Tree gets stronger I too would get stronger. The first few days the elves prayed I didn't feel any change in amount of mana I have but today I felt a little change in the size of my vase shaped vessel. I was recording everything that happened from the start to this moment but I can't understand why it's happening.

After they finished praying I went towards them I asked Ethan who was there of what he's feeling after he prayed. He answered by saying, "I felt really satisfied as if I became one with mother. I was enveloped in warmth."

I asked more of my disciples and they also said the same thing. After interviewing them I went back to my library and started to record my findings. After doing so I came up with a hypothesis about what is happening.

My hypothesis wasn't complete as I had to modify it after I make some experiments. My hypothesis was that the mana left elves because they wanted it to leave it. Mana is different for every person because it is their representation. Even if you don't know how to control mana inside of your body, subconsciously you do that without realizing it. The elves who were praying wanted to communicate with the World Tree. Because they wanted it so much they subconsciously made their mana enter the Tree in hope they connected with their mother.

This is quite interesting because by praying elves not only connected with the World Tree but they also made it stronger. And that happened only in few days. They increased its powers in few days. They increased the size of the vase shaped vessel which is unbelievable. The Ape King spend decades to increase his vessel size but still died with just gigantic ball shaped vessel. Eragon the dragon king too spend his whole life trying to increase his small tear shaped vessel size but couldn't do it even now. Vase shaped vessel was better than all those mentioned above and in just few days it's size increased.

I never believed religions before but right now I'm changing my points of view. In this world if anything became a god then I'm sure that World Tree would become one day. Even if it didn't become a god it would become an unbeatable force.
