Chapter 40 - The bride's strategy

The morning rays coruscated and directly landed on her face, the lady sleeping peacefully could be considered as 'Sleeping Beauty' undoubtedly.

The sun's rays kissed her shamelessly, they did not even fear the ghost king instead they peeked inside the chamber of his bride.

The lady dozed off God knows when, after she had cried heartful. In a careless posture Syna laid there like she was in her own home.

The cursed bride hardly slept since last night and when she finally dozed off, and drifted into the valley of some halcyon dreams, a knock interrupted her mind's activity.

Syna scrunched shut her eyes tightly and stretched her body by taking her flawless long arms up to her head.

Not fully acknowledging where she was, Syna did not open her eyes.

But the door knocked again, this time louder. Perhaps the person wanted her permission to step in.

"Come in"

As Syna responded to the continuous knocking, a lady arrived in might be in her late twenties, dressed in a uniform which could not be considered as a maid's costume.

With long hair bound in a thick fine braid which rested at her back like a snake, a sweet look graced her face though having sharp facial features.

"She is the lady from yesterday."

Syna at once recognized Madeleine who was already smiling at her.

"Should I prepare your breakfast?"

She questioned with her eyes glued to her, as the lady was carrying out her duty diligently.

"Uum ...yes...how should I address you?"

Syna tried to initiate a conversation to get some clues about her whereabouts.

"Madeleine, milady. You can call me whatever you want."

She bowed a little by placing right foot behind the left one and lowering her head a little.

"Ah! There is no need for that courtesy. So, Madeleine, where am I at this moment?"

Madeleine smiled weakly perhaps she knew this question would arrive soon.

"At the manor of his highness Ghost King, milady."

Madeleine intentionally replied her the other way around what Syna actually wanted to inquire.

"No, I mean, am I in Australia or what?"

Syna placed forward her question bluntly this time.

"Apologies milady, but I'm forbidden to answer this question. Or else my life would be at stake."

She needed to stop Syna from asking so many questions, and she could not even tell her that what scenery she was witnessing outside was just an illusion created by her lord.

Syna was still in Sydney and in human realm, but Sinclair wanted her to prevent from escaping. So, he created a magical barrier around the manor that helped to keep the evil away and any kind of 'other magic'.

"Okay. I understand. Is your master around?"

Syna was playing bold and blunt, she did not even want to consider her pride and reputation, that she asked for her future husband with a straight face.

"He will visit you soon, milady. Should I prepare breakfast?"

Madeleine again gave her a brief reply instead raised her question again.

"Oh! Yes, sure. By the way would I be having breakfast in this cage like a prisoner or…."

Syna intentionally left her sentence in between for Madeline to fill in the blank.

The lady giggled a little upon the naive question of her queen. Sure she knew how much her lord Sinclair loved his bride.

"No, milady. You are free to roam around the mansion. "

Syna nodded and Madeleine left, the door got shut silently. Syna was all alone now again, in that neatly furnished room she was isolated again with her thoughts, her flowing emotions and it was only her voice that could be heard in the room.

The room was presenting the perfect picture of her loneliness as she was surrounded by a shade of blood, the silence was hovering like a 'Grim Reaper'.

Everything was presenting something opposite to her own personality which was bright and energetic.

She breathed heavily at her surroundings and got up from the bed, her legs dangled from the bed as she paused for a few moments as if she was reminding herself of something.

Syna then headed towards the restroom, to her surprise everything of daily use was placed there, she picked up a toothbrush and while brushing her teeth she wondered about her life.

Many thoughts and future plannings came into her mind, many wishes she wanted to make, but there was no one to listen to them.

At the point of seeing all the things which could be necessary to her, she felt like perhaps the Ghost King really cared for her.

For once she felt that maybe she should marry him to stop all this mess, and further misery that could possibly fall onto others.

But at the same time her heart was saying something else, it was stolen by her boss. The thought of Sinclair MacLaverty crossed her mind at once and she shook the ridiculous idea of marrying the perverted Ghost king.

All she wanted was Sinclair to be her groom, her partner and her everything. His thoughts continuously hunted her even in that interminable moment in which she fell from the bed.

She recalled him catching her in the office, she could still remember his manly scent, his defined muscles that held her. Whatever she could think of was inviting about him.

The soul bond was working it's magic, it was only twice or most probably thrice she met Sinclair but the sudden butterflies she felt upon seeing him, and the sparks initiated into her body under his touch.

All the things proved that the 'centuries old' mate bond between the duo was still there, poisoning their hearts with love, once again.

Syna moved the brush to the other side of her mouth as she stared at the reflection.

"I'm looking horrendous. This is how you are going to seduce that pervert, Syna?"

She was talking to her own reflection, as she spit out her planning while pointing into the mirror as if she was questioning to another person.
