Chapter 1 - The Unusual Lock

How does one would describe the powerful ruler of business world, the well known and excessively rumoured Sinclair MacLaverty? Various journalists tried to expose him but failed badly, it isn't about the hard work of digging an endless pit to find something suspicious about him, rather the main problem lies 'which side of him is the real one'?

Someone wise once said, what others can do, you can also do and what others cannot attempt or dare to think, then definitely you should do it to prove them wrong. That's an anonymous Chinese saying and I believe my agency took it seriously, or at least in my case.

I've been assigned a toughest task to search on the very subject that had earlier sent clever journalist minds dismissed to their homes, only because of their failure to solve the mystery of the 'CEO of MacLaverty' group.

It's more likely to resemble to step into the lion's den, by putting your life at stake, all such ruckus to take his pictures, pull out some big information about him. You must be pondering why he is the hot topic, right?

So, the answer lies in his powerful mysterious gaze, which feels as if an eagle is preying upon with his penetrating stare, his cold aura and emotionally paralyzed face! Everything about him is intriguing, inviting everyone, you must be assuming as if he is a vampire, as similar words were described for 'Edward Cullen' too.

But to disappoint you, no, this CEO is not a vampire at all. Perhaps we all are wrong with our naive hunches, as a book shouldn't be judged by cover. Oh! Well, I was saying the best thing to remain close to your CEO prey is applying for a secretary. Yes, I'm a journalist in disguise who will spy on that damn mysterious CEO and will win the prize awarded for this task, cheers!

Perhaps the luck was on my side as there came the vacancy advertisement from the company and I, Syna Rhys, applied with my glorified curriculum vitae. Technically speaking today is my interview.

Oh! wait.

"Today is my interview and I'm here writing all this sh*t in my laptop. Fuck! I need to hurry for my first day."

[ Syna points at the camera ]

You want to accompany me in this adventurous journey? Yes? Then let's catch our prey!

~~~~~~~~
The stars had began to hide behind the blue curtains as the tyrant sun emerged from the east, snatching the sombre cover of night. It was almost daylight as the 'knight rays' were smashing the window glass and I shut my laptop with a deep sigh. Buckling up myself for a new adventure to be added in my name, I stretched my body and yawned.
I couldn't sleep last night because of excitement for this dangerous yet exciting task. Talking about my earlier life it's nothing special to narrate, I mean, about my parents I don't know and regarding my childhood, I wish I had never grown up.
I remained associated to a small magazine, who forced me to try my luck as a journalist and currently I'm working for an entertainment news agency, which is now perhaps taking me as an eye sore by assigning me such a task which requires placing my life on hand.
But I was such an idiot, a lover of adventure and immediately agreed to it. Well, what else could be done now, I have to sacrifice myself for a big bombing news. I placed my laptop aside and stood up from the bed, walked straight to the cupboard and opened my wardrobe for a formal dress, I had to begin earlier knowing that the selection always had been the most time taking difficulty for me.
My decision power always goes numb, I pulled out a white pleated shirt and a brick orange skirt which would hung in my mid thigh, not so slutty and not so conservative. Next step was to take a bath, I strode towards the washroom, right next to my wardrobe and opposite to the bed, still in my loose PJs and regular shirt.
I leaned against the wall waiting for water to mix up, couldn't take a bath with just cold one, I slipped off the ring which rested in my index finger. A gift left by my ancestors, as that was what my orphanage nanny told.
I let the luke warm water suck out the tiredness within me, shampooed my hair and bathed in lavender body wash. Put on my undergarments and barged into the room without wasting any further moments.
"Heng! My ring."
Draped in white towel around my body and wet hair cascaded on my shoulders I turned around and leaped towards the door handle, which was surprisingly locked.
"What the hell, why it's locked?"
It was unexpected, I mean, I was the only one living in the apartment ever since. Then how could it be locked specifically from inside and all of a sudden? I pulled the handle once again but it got stuck, as I guessed that way.
"Looks like the hinges and the lock is the problem now."
I kicked that damn door with my bathroom slippers and ebbed disheartened. I was strictly informed by my nanny never to lose or put off that ring and upto this day, I wondered what was so special about that damn ring.
To be true, I loved it because of the unique ancient style and that silver shiny gem in the middle, don't know how much it will cost, maybe a fortune. I slipped into my working clothes and wore a few puffs of perfume. Next step was to blow dry my hair, I took out the dryer and plugged the wire. It was about my third or fourth blow when I heard the unlocking of the door!
Immediately I glanced back at the washroom door, stood up from my dressing chair with a pounding, frightened heart, I never believed in ghosts or any such supernatural beings which is all just gibberish and only happens in novels and movies.
"No,no one here. You are just tired, Syna and hallucinating voices."
I encouraged myself by tapping my chest gently, but still I needed to see, to confirm and with a stammering hand I grabbed the handle and was about to pull it, when the door flung wide open.
