Chapter 4 - A Farewell

Calvin:"(WHAAAAT? Eric? He didn't even meet Sarah before! Did they know each other? His fingerprints are on the chef's knife, and that doesn't mean he is the killer! But it means he is involved in some way! .... Eric is the only true friend I had, a brother to me, I can't let this continue or he will be in big trouble because of me!)"

The courtroom went on fire, the news delivered by Detective Freeman left many people of the general public shocked. Eric who represented the defendant was involved in the murder, the people's and even Judge's trust in him was broken.

Judge: "Order! Order! Order!"

Nobody listened to The Judge, They kept talking about Eric being a potential accomplice in the crime committed by Calvin. Tearing him into pieces with their words, Calvin couldn't stand their blabbering.

Calvin: "ENOUGH!"

Everyone shut their mouth and silence emerged.

Calvin: "Your Honor, I have something to say. May you accord me some of your time?"

Judge: "Go ahead, Mr. Bradford. We are all ears."

Calvin: "Well, I confess... I killed Sarah Baker."

But this time, Nobody dared to speak.

Eric:"(Nooooo! What is he doing!? Did he think that confessing keep me out of hiss mess!?)"

Tobias: "See, told ya! But you didn't listen to me."

Prosecutor Connell: "Your Honor, the defendant has confessed by himself. The persecution thinks that this court doesn't need to pursue this matter anymore and end this trial once for good."

Eric: "OBJECTION! The defense had already made advancements in this case, it's too late to back off now!"

Judge: "Objection overruled, the confession of the defendant and the involvement of you, Mr. Robles, in the crime is enough to hand a verdict. Consider yourself lucky that you will get out with nothing."

Eric: "(No! It can't be the end! I worked really hard for it! Now my only friend will be taken away from me AGAIN! WHY!? I... I... I SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT!... Please... Forgive me... Calvin...)"

Calvin: "(Eric, I'm sorry my friend. I let you down but this trial need to continue, I know that you are not the murderer because I trust you. Alas, you will be dragged down into this mess if I didn't act... Goodbye... Eric...)"

Judge: "This court sees no reason to further prolong the trial, nor is there any need for more time to decide the case against the defendant. This court finds the defendant, Calvin Bradford..."

"Guilty!"

Afterward, Calvin was arrested and has been taken. Eric was speechless, he didn't speak to everyone that day and lost the courage to face him again.

A few hours later.

"This is your cell, get in!" A prison guard said to Calvin.

The cell about 6 by 8 feet in dimension, with steel walls and one solid door that could only be locked from the outside. The solid door had a window that allowed the prisoner to be observed from the outside, it was very dirty and had very few facilities. At first, Calvin thought that he was alone but after a few moments, he noticed an Asian person sleeping peacefully steel bedstead that holds a mattress. As Calvin approached, that guy quickly woke up.

" *AHHHhhhh* " He yawned. "You must be my new roommate, finally someone to chat with, though

I will be transferred next month. Anyways, I'm Kamo Naragami, pleased to meet you."

Calvin: "I'm Calvin Bradford, Nice to meet you too."

Kamo: "You are that famous online writer!"

Calvin: "Yeah, it's me."

Kamo: "I'm your biggest fan! I printed all your works, I couldn't contain myself, such masterpieces deserve to be alive!"

Calvin: "Thank you."

Kamo: "Oh I forgot my manners, I'll introduce my past occupation, I used to be a martial artist!"

Calvin: "Oh! That's really cool! I admire martial artists! They are strong enough to defend themselves!"

Kamo: "You are an interesting one, aren't you? But you don't seem to be a bad person, what brings you here?"

Calvin sat down on the steel bedstead with Kamo and told him all that happened to him except for Eric's fingerprints.

Kamo: "Quite unfortunate period you have faced."

Calvin: "When I'll go out of this place, I'll take my revenge."

Kamo: "...Revenge?"

Calvin:"Yes, I'll avenge my parents, I'll make that Tobias suffer, I'll wipe my family out from this world for abandoning me back then when my mother got sick and my father... disappeared. Revenge!"

A moment of silence.

Kamo: " We must know how to defend ourselves, and with the weapons, we accept to have. That is why we have fought to this day, to create our person, our faith, and who we are today. Whoever we are today defends himself with his own weapons in a way of defense which is not necessarily the same way of the offense."

Calvin was a little bit surprised but he got with the flow and continue after Kamo.

Calvin:" Sometimes the best way to take revenge is to prove that we do not have to do it. Your success and your progress are the best revenge. Do not give birth in your heart something dark. What you will want to nourish in you when you are going to take revenge is this ego to say to the other:(You can't reach me.)"

Kamo: "These words, they were written by you."

Calvin: "I'm no longer worthy of my title, A writer who can't apply what he writes to reality anymore."

Kamo: "Don't be too hard on yourself, to write like this at your age is a big achievement on its own."

Calvin: "My writing skills can't even be compared to my friend's ones, he's on another league on its own."

Kamo: "You may eventually surpass him one day."

Calvin: "Now that I think about it. How did you end up here, Mr. Naragami?"

Kamo: "It was just like your case, a person I hate got killed and I was framed for it."

Calvin: "It's quite unfortunate.

Kamo: "That's life and we have to deal with it."

They kept talking like that for a while, Calvin realized that Kamo is the second person to talk so casually with him aside from Eric.

Kamo Naragami was a 32-year-old Martial artist who enjoyed reading books and novels, traveling, and training. He was wise and calm, a little bit agitated some times, but could also be very fearsome and a bit lazy.

He was a Japanese person who defines himself as straight. He started studying philosophy, politics, and economics at college but never finished the course because of pursuing his dream in martial arts.

Physically, Kamo was in good shape and very strong, he was a martial artist after all. He was very tall with pale skin, black hair, and brown eyes.

Calvin thought that trusting Kamo will bring him no harm and he could probably ask him for help.

Calvin: "Mr. Naragami, I want to say something."

Kamo: "What is it?"

Calvin: "Since I was a child, I was bullied by everyone except. I couldn't stand for myself because I was weak, years have passed and I'm still week. Unable to protect myself nor the people precious for me. I want strength."

"Would you accept me as a disciple?"
