Chapter 4 - ...and cried

The chilly breeze began to waft in crimson and sapphire embers from the falling stars.

We had just brushed our teeth and got ready for bed after our late night snack.

"Huh... the meteor shower must be pretty close by," I said.

I could hear shuffling behind me.

"H-hey! What're you doing?!" I asked, panicked as I watched her crawl into the bedsheets.

"What does it look like," she plainly blurted," I'm going to sleep. It's getting cold. Shut the window already."

My face was burning as my body robotically shut the glass, lifting the blankets until she responded with a glare.

"Right. I'll sleep on the couch," I said and placed my hand on the wall. With every touch, wall lit with rippling colorful hexagons, until the glassy door popped open. I took out the blanket from inside it and plopped myself onto the couch.

It's actually, kinda comfy.

Just after I closed my eyes, I could feel the familiar sensation from this morning.

The whoosh of wind began to whirl gently around me as I fell asleep.

I could hear nothing. I could see nothing.

Then I dreamt another episode. The one of two angels, separated by heaven.

The room was clean and nearly empty. It was shielded with white porcelain walls. The girl's black twin tailed hair rivered around her as she hummed a wandering melody. She sat in the middle, scribbling white chalk onto the white porcelain tiles then cupped a hand filled with the grains of white.

"Hey, what're you doing?" asked a grey haired boy. He had been watching her draw white upon white and wondered what she had been forming.

Startled by his voice, she had spilt the snowy pile all over her midnight black feathers.

"Are you done yet!? The guests have arrived- Agh! You only needed to powder them on not bathe in them! Hurry up!" said an angel, dragging her away from the white sand.

The girl watched the boy's silver grey eyes grow wide after witnessing her family's secret.

As soon as they had left, the boy snuck into the halls leading to a winter colored glassy ball room.

The dream faded to black as I felt a burning sensation permeate throughout my chest. Then a shriek of terror followed by crackling metal echoed in my mind.

"-ey! Wake up!" I heard Yuena cry out to me.

"Huh.....?" I wondered out loud.

"Wake up I said, you disco curly freak!" her screams pierced and rang my ears.

"Ugh," I struggled to shake the muffling numbness in my head. My mind was hazy, still reviving itself from the deep slumber. Then my nerves sent shrilling pain throughout my body. I could hardly lift my head to see what was happening. My body was frozen numb but pain continued to stab deeper into my body and mind.

I could see pools of deep red spilling my reflection and.... another image of me.

He looked just like me except his bangs were parted in the middle and was dressed in a moonlit white kimono laced in black lilies.

Sputtered whispers of melodic incantations reached my ears as the image of our room, covered in smoky black swirls, filled my sight. Another voice whispered a different set of incantations outside our door. The golden crested emblem on the black suit and his black hair gave it away. It was Xian. Who knew how long he was standing there or when this event even began.

The black smoke moved slick like a snake and devoured anything it touched. Yuena struggled to pull me from the black smokey arms. One arm continued to tug the lower half of my body into it and another arm layed ontop of a patch of foreign characters hovering above my chest.

The other me smiled evilly and watched Yuena's tears stream down her face as the characters dispersed from above my chest. Though her strength was determined to pull me from the abyss, her eyes were bewildered with shock and helplessness as she watched the transluscent black wisp melt its arm into my chest.

My warm sleepy body was welcomed with the icy cold air piercing my lungs. It was getting difficult to breath and the loss of blood was blurrying my senses of what was up and down. Though it was snowing outside, every inch of my body was on fire.

"Please! Don't.. Don't let go of me!!" Yuena cried as she linked her arms around me tighter, pulling me from the black wispy arm's grasp. Beads of sweat blurred my vision and light peaked into my eyes as much as it could to aid my sight.

Blood ran down from my chest as I felt the smoke wriggling throughout my torso.

My breath heavily hastened as my hazy eyes widened, accepting more light to reveal the gaping hole in my chest. The hole spreads an inch wider and a glowing broken piece of a coin rises out of it, almost levitating within the black arms grasp when-

"AHHHHHHH!"

I certainly would've screamed at that moment but the voice came from Yuena. A light glowed from behind her, forming into a pair of snow white wings.

In the state of shock, Yuena's lips sang a foreign melody and her expression calmed down despite her falling tears. The black smoke holding the broken coin disintegrated along with its whole body of abysmal darkness.

The black hole in my chest closes as another group of foreign letters revert back in place, disappearing into my skin.

What is this.

The light fades as I turned around to the source of the miracle.

"You're okay now," Yuena weakly cries

as she passes out with my body still in her arms.

"Master Shu! Lady Yuena!" Xian called out and ran to our aid.

"Xian, I know this incident must have already been alerted to his ears, but we must make sure no one knows about Yuena," I firmly tell him as he grabs onto my hand," No, tend to her first. Her mana... feels uniquely 'different', but she must have used too much. Judging from her reaction, this must be her first Awakening. I can," I take a breath to continue my strength to speak," still keep going. Please." I tug at his suit desperately.

"As you wish, Master Shu," Xian said.

His concerned expression showed his reluctance to leave me unattended for any longer than the time he was dispelling the barrier outside the room.
