Alexander and his mother pull into the driveway of their home . his mother looking concerned as they walk to the door as they're going inside his father greats them . "back so soon" he says . his mom replies "they got into a fight so I picked him up on my way home" . his dad responds with "when I was your age my friends and I got into fights as well it's normal I'm sure you to will make it up. you two are both the only child so I'm sure there's plenty of lessons for you too learn . the both of you ." Alexander asks if he can go to his room now and his dad nods . so Alexander walks off to his room where he closes the door . takes off his shoes and lays in bed his eyes get heavy and soon enough he's asleep .
when Alexander wakes up he heads to the kitchen Walking past the living room where his parents are sitting his mother in tears .
Alexander asks "what's going on ". his father looks at his mother "I'll tell him Mary " his dad grabs his sons hand's and says " Henry died lastnight ... he had a seizure last night in his sleep there is nothing no one could do. "
a look of regret started to haunt Alexanders face as he fell to his hands and knees , he says" this is my fault isn't it ... he'd still be here if I hadn't told him I wanted him to die " tears start rolling down his cheeks and falling into the carpet. his father responds "son this was not in your power . you had nothing to do with it . I'm sorry those were the last words you spoke to him . unfortunately this is a lesson you had to learn the hardest way possible . we often get angry and say things we don't mean . we don't know when the last time we will see the ones we care about . try not to blame yourself . " I'm so sorry " his mom says softly . Alexander crying walks to his room to lay down . and soon falls back into a slumber.
he has a dream him an Henry are playing and hears "I hope you die" over and over again as his friend fades from his visions of them spending time together. he wakes up screaming these dreams become a common occurrence for a few months even at the funeral he heard "I hope you die " replay in his head Henry's mother approaches Alexander and says "I know you care for Henry you two were like brothers and nothing can hide that pain in your eyes . don't blame yourself nobody could have predicted anything that happened and fights are normal for boys especially brother's." Alexander hugs his fallen friends mother and cries in her arms ." I won't forget him " he says . Henry's dad died in the war so he isn't around . and she lost her only son . now she's alone the following weeks are relatively gloomy , rainy , sad . exactly what you'd expect after a loved ones death . it's almost as if the sky cry's for Henry . Alexander returns to school his first day back he was silent the whole day . the other students didn't bother him and the teachers have him his space too. everyone surely knows it's hard loosing your best friend. but what nobody took into account is that Alexander didn't really talk to anyone else . so what Alexander really lost was his only friend . the 2nd day back at school Alexander gets pulled to the side during lunch . "Henry's mother she took her own life lastnight" the principal says then he proceeds to say "she lost her husband and her son I couldn't imagine . now i know you missed alot of days already but you can go home if you need to son I understand . I couldn't imagine how your feeling and I'm sorry for your loss . i know they was like a 2nd family to you and to have them ripped away must hurt . " Alexander asks if he can stay he doesn't want to fall behind on his schoolwork "of course " principal Murphy replies . weeks go by and Alexander doesn't talk to anyone . his parents become concerned . his mother Mary starts taking him to a children's therapist. at first the therapist stares at Alexander up and down . Alexander looks at his shelf . the therapist says "go ahead " Alexander proceeds to the shelf . where he picks up a picture of a wolf . "you like wolf's" asked the therapist . Alexander replies "Henry did " . the doctor stares at the boy holding a picture of a wolf with sentimental value." keep it " the doctor says and smiles . Alexander looks at his therapist and says" idk of I want something that reminds me of him so much it hurts " the the therapist responds my name's Reese Dr Reese you can just call me Reese . I know your names Alexander nice to meet you . Alexander looks at the doctor "ain't i here to talk about Henry " he says . Dr Reese replies "yes your quick to realize things I see but we should have started with introduction as it's easier to open up with someone once you know them ." and continues to say " now that we know each other it is common practice to keep something that reminds you of a loved one who's passed away it hurts to remember one who's passed away yes . but they live on in our memories. " Alexander confused says "passed away"? you say that like Henry's not dead . Dr reese replies " you say that like you know what happens after death ." Alexander responds saying " don't we just die and that's it?" nobody really knows". says the Dr with a smile on his face "I think that's enough for today " Alexander heads to the lobby "how did it go " asks his mother Mary "he gave me a picture of a wolf " Alexander replies. she smiles and the two get in the car and head home .
