"Why did you have to scare her? Look at what you've done!"
Azell was standing over Carine's body feeling more overwhelmed than ever.
"I'm not the one who made her pass out by holding her mouth AND nose! Who the hell holds a person's nose?" Nate angrily yelled back.
Breaking their glares, Nate slammed the front door closed. Azell jumped at the sound.
"She looks dead." said Azell beginning to panic as she looked down at Carine.
"Great! This time everything's your fault! You're the one who suffocated her with your bear claws not me." said Nate sarcastically.
"She was screaming because of you!" cried Azell.
"Okay, let's be smart and Azell I need you to check her breathing. Check her pulse." said Nate slowly. Eyes bulging with the thought of checking on a body that may not having living breath left in it, frightened her to the core.
"You do it! I can't! she yelled. Moving quickly away from Carine's body, Azell hugged herself. Nate rolled his eyes and threw his hands up in frustration.
"I know she's alive! You're paranoid so you need to check her and get your head on straight! She couldn't fight you or breath so she lost consciousness. That's it! So go ahead and get it done!"
Azell didnt move an inch. It wasn't gore or even death of a stranger that bothered her. It was hurting someone she knew that did. She just couldn't stand to look at them much less check to see if they're breathing. She may touch cold skin on a lifeless body and she knew guilt would consume her fully for all her days.
Nate knocked into Azell's shoulder angrily as he bent down to check Carine's wrist. He then moved down more and put his head between Carine's breasts as he listened for a heartbeat. Looking at Azell he hand signalled her to come down. Nate lifted his head from Carine and as soon as Azell was close, he grabbed her hand. He helped her point her middle and index finger on her right hand over Carine's wrist. Carine was warm. Azell felt Carine's throbbing pulse. She laid her head on Carine's chest and heard a slow, rhythmic beat. Smiling from relief Azell released Carine and touched Nate's arm.
"I didn't kill her!"
Rolling his eyes hard Nate pulled Azell up beside him.
"Okay, which way to the bedroom or do we want her on the couch?" Nate asked beginning to stand.
"Couch would be good." answered Azell.
Bending over, Nate struggled back a bit picking up Carine. With a huff of air he carried her to the green striped couch and dropped her onto the cushions. Looking at Azell he said, "That was dead weight. Damn! She had to be at least two-hundred and forty pounds or more."
Irritated Azell responded, "Hey, I'm not too far from two-hundred so I guess you won't be the one saving me next."
Lifting an eyebrow Nate walked and stood in front of Azell smiling. Without any warning, Nate's arm's were around Azell's waist as her lifted her up. Gasping in surpise and anger Azell tried escaping. Nate laughed at her shocked face as he put her back down. As soon as her released her Azell punched him in the arm. Nate arm stung but he wasn't about to let Azell know it. He over dramatically held his arm in pain which infuritated Azell more.
"Why are you even here?" yelled Azell.
"I knew you were going to ask. And by the way you're more like one-hundred and fifty pounds." Nate said laughing.
"Shut up! Now, tell me!" demanded Azell shoving Nate.
Raising his hands up in defeat, Nate's humorous glow never left his face.
"I am here to invite you to Morté Wrestling Championships in 181 day's. You were a fighter a million years ago, right?"
"Are you freaking joking? Is this an invite to fight or to go and watch? Because if it's to fight, you're insane!" said Azell angrily.
Nate shrugged.
"To....to fight Azell. I know you have this old injury but I googled people who've surpassed their injuries and deformities. I believe you can do...."
Waving her hand in Nate's face to stop, Azell said, "You googled? So you asked doctor Google? I am not those people! I have not fought in years! That was just wrestling!"
Azell walked to her door and opened it wide and continued, "And secondly, all people are not the same! I am not the same as I was! You coming here again was a waste of both our times!"
Nate stared at Azell's overwhelmed face. Slowly he walked to the door no longer smiling.
Without looking he said, "You give yourself a disability when it becomes one of the mind. You say what you can or cannot accomplish. But why give up on something you love? If you have the chance. Even with the pain and hard work. Think about it, Azell. I will do it with you. Hurt when you hurt and rejoice when you do."
"Why would you help me? Why are you even here?" asked Azell
" I...don't know. I just felt something for you." came Nate's honest answer.
"Like what? Pity?" spat Azell.
Turning to face Azell, Nate sighed.
"No. I like you. And I know there's more to you than a bad leg and being too prideful for your own good."
Stepping out the door without turning Nate continued," Think on it. I don't have your number but somehow we keep coming back together. Let me know the next time we meet. Hopefully it'll be soon."
She watched Nate walk away and slowly closed the door. Sighing she walked up to her matching green striped armchair and plopped herself down. Azell's thoughts clouded her mind with Nate's confession and the 'what if's'. Suddenly, a loud snore came from across the coffee table. Carine went from fainting to an actual deep slumber. Azell heaved herself back up and walked to Carine on the couch. Kicking Carine in the ankle Azell raised her voice, "Wake up sleeping beauty. Wake the hell up!"
