Mysterious illnesses and ancient curses aside, Amelia was gone and my father was left to run his company and raise his son by himself. His father, who had turned Alibaster Industries in to the boom international business it is today, demanded he remarry for the sake of the company. In other words he made him marry Gladis because she was the daughter of thier biggest competitor and my grandpa wanted a non-hostile takeover.
And so a year after Amelia's death my father married Gladis. She was over the moon with happiness and even accepted Ezra as her own son. But her happiness was short lived when it became painfully clear he didn't love her and merely tolerated her presence in his home.
One day toward the middle of the second year of thier Marriage my dad came home with a bundle of pink blankets in his arms. Gladis had assumed he found the pregnancy test in the bathroom and got her a gift to celebrate. Boy was she pissed when she found out that there was a baby inside the bundle. Apparently she had shouted at him until she turned blue in the face and then smashed a giant vase when she flipped the table in the foyer before storming off to her room. I would give my left breast to see that tantrum on tape.
It was the first of many similar tantrums she would throw before the birth of her own daughter. With each passing year Gladis would grow more and more bitter and cruel but she was a master at hiding it. CallaLilie on the other hand was not and tried to make my life as much of a living hell as possible. She did everything in her power to try and make me miserable but it only succeeded in making herself look like a fool.
Despite my father and brother's affection I was still a disgrace and was treated as such by everyone else that knew I existed. Gladis had seen to that personally and CallaLilie reaped the benefits. That little mooch got anything and everything she ever wanted from my relatives and ended up getting me banned from any and all of the family gatherings. I even had to stay when the rest of my family was invited to visit and stay at thier homes, but my father would always cut the trips short. He would always make sure to bring a gift home for me whenever they went away.
When my grandpa stepped down as ceo he gave the company to my father only because he had no choice, my father was an only child. However, hidden in the fine print of the paperwork was the stipulation that barred me from ever being publicly recognized as an Alibaster. That was the day my grandfather forced my dad to change my name, after that I became Olive Dubois.
Weird, right? Why Dubois? Why didn't he give me his mistesses last name? I was born after Amelia had died and shared no bloodties with her, or so i had thought.
