"Stop, I can't walk anymore." The devil's right leg was hanging on only by its tendons. He flumped on to a nearby garden wall. "Let me rest a moment, this body is agony for me."
"I thought you loved pain. You're the king of hell." Wraith said.
The devil shook his head. "I just like dealing it out. Can't stand the stuff myself." Wraith made a mental note it was always good to know the devil's weakness.
The devil gave a giggle. "It's strange the last few times I've come here the bodies keep going awry on me." He shifted painfully to sit better. "I think next time I'll pay a visit to where they keep the babies. What are they called...nurseries. Maybe they will be better?"
Wraith gave an inner shiver and tried to blank the image out of his mind. "Ok what is it that you want from me?" He said.
The devil wetted his blood stained lips. One of his lungs slowly collapsed which made his breathing laboured. "We need to team up to defeat Flux."
The question hung in the air for a second or two like a bad smell before Wraith answered. "Why should I help you? God won't."
"Because it keeps everything in order." He jestered towards the sky. "That place and Him stays there. This earth keeps going around and I get all the bad people. I have to admit it's a good way to run things."
He spat two teeth out. "What are the alternative Flux and its chaos? Do you really want the rules changed?"
The devil was right thought Wraith but he couldn't show his agreement. "What's in it for me?" He said instead.
This was where the devil felt comfortable. This was where he hoped it would go.
"Well." Said the devil as his bladder burst. "What would you like women, money, fame. You name it."
Wraith went to speak but Hex called out first. "When it is all done you never leave hell again." Wraith saw his chance and seconded it.
The devil felt his bowels drop. "Now just wait a damn minute."
Hex gave a nod to Wraith and they both started to walk back to their house. The devil tried to follow but fell straight to the floor. "Please just wait a moment."
Wraith and Hex both turned round. "That's the deal when Flux is defeated you stay in your pit forever." Wraith said.
The devil started crawling along the road towards them. "Look, let's talk this through some more, you don't understand." He felt his heart stop beating.
The pain was unbearable. He was in agony. "But I like coming here. It's my playground. It's how I get my kicks." He whimpered.
Wraith and Hex turned and carried on walking.
"Ok, ok." The devil screamed. "Yes, I promise to stay forever in hell."
Hex turned round. "Forever."
"Yes, yes, yes forever." The devil screamed out.
"Next time I call, you answer." Wraith said as he and Hex walked away. The deal had been sealed.
As the last of the life oozed out of the human body the devil gave a grin. Everything was going to plan.
