"A game status window?" This was probably a way to measure one's strengths with numerical values.
Heath scanned through the text in the status window with narrowed eyes. Even though Heath rarely played video games, he still recognized some terms such as strength and agility. What he found interesting was that there were unfamiliar terms that appeared such as elemental energy.
A bitter smile surfaced when Heath was done reading the stats.
(Only one point in strength, agility, and magic defense? And 5 points in vitality, defense, and agility? Either this is the regular stats for a level one life form in this world or I am too weak.)
(I am assuming that class is like a battle class like a warrior or a mage? I wonder what the prerequisites for gaining a class are...)
(A unique ability?)
Heath stared at the text under the label of "Unique Ability."
(Phoenix Eye? What does this unique ability do?)
A box of text appeared in front of the stats window.
[Phoenix Eye](98% Sealed)
Unique Ability
Description: Legend has told of a great Ancient Phoenix that had once ruled the heavens and was slain by a group of wicked celestials who sought for its powers. The flames of its remains spread throughout the mortal realm. The power of reincarnation inside the flames resulted in the creation of soul flames that reanimated the dead. In each and every one of these soul flames lies a portion of the Ancient Phoenix's power. A soul flame has been stored away into the eye of a human being, granting him the power the Ancient Phoenix has once possessed, the many forms that the Phoenix could take, and the knowledge the Ancient Phoenix has accumulated over the years. May the Ancient Phoenix's flame light the path for your journey, young human.
Heath immediately touched his left eye, feeling astonished.
(It seems like my formerly damaged left eye absorbed the soul flame after its consciousness was erased. It was fortunate that I didn't die during the entire event and lived to gain this unique ability.)
Heath clenched his hand. With this, he could make up for his weak attributes and could protect himself for now until he got stronger in this ruthless world. Furthermore, the description proves that higher beings existed in this world. Celestials! Just hearing this term made Heath's body tremble. Who knows if these celestials may actually target Heath for gaining this power from the phoenix's flames...
Of course, Heath had no idea that what he thought now really came true in the future.
(But what's this "98% sealed" suppose to be about? Is the unique ability not at its full power?)
[The unique ability, [Phoenix Eye], has been sealed due to current insufficient strength to bring out its full potential.]
Heath expression changed all of a sudden at the sudden appearance of the black text at the bottom of his vision. He mentally raised his guard up. After having an experience with the intelligence inside the flame, he became much more careful with anything that seems suspicious. "Who are you?" Heath asked carefully.
[Formerly, you wiped the intelligence of the soul flame which resulted in another intelligence being born after you have acquired your unique ability, [Phoenix Eye]. The intelligence has now been linked to you. The current objective is to help the individual to reach his desires and goal.]
"Why is your current goal is to help me?"
[Unique Ability, [Phoenix Eye], automatically linked the new intelligence to the individual.]
"..." This can actually happen?!
"What you had said before... the unique ability is sealed because I'm weak. Will it continue to get unsealed if I get stronger?"
[Affirmative. As the individual gets stronger, the individual will continue to receive new power and knowledge of the previous owner of the flames, the Ancient Phoenix.]
"What exactly can be described as 'knowledge'?"
[Former memories of the Ancient Phoenix pertains combat skills, weapon mastery, spells...]
"That's enough!" Heath began to feel light-headed looking at the entire written list the intelligence has presented. According to the list, there was even 'clothing manufacturing' listed which made Heath awfully suspicious of the peculiar interests the Ancient Phoenix had when it was alive...
"Can you tell me anything about the fundamentals of elemental energy?"
After reading the following text, Heath got a bit of understanding of how elemental energy works. This world was filled with units of energy in the air called "elemental energy." This elemental energy was based on multiple different elements in this world such as the elements of fire and water. In this world, there are a total of 10 elements: fire, water, earth, wind, metal, lightning, ice, light, dark, and nature. The world is filled with energy from these elements which many different beings absorb to store elemental energy. However, the energy absorbed is usually in a neutral state which is then processed by the body to be used based on the body's elemental affinity. This way, even in dark and cold places can light elemental users and fire elemental users can still absorb elemental energy.
Heath watched as the former text disappeared. "What's this elemental energy used for? Combat? Magic?"
[Beings in this world have the ability to perform phenomenons called "elemental magic" for combat and daily use. The castings of these phenomenons are labeled as spells. The elemental spells can only be used if its element is an element is the same as the element the user has an affinity with.]
(As I thought. Elemental energy is quite similar to mana, just that the spells use are only limited by one's own element affinity.)
Heath asked the next question that was pressing on his mind as he painfully glanced at his attributes shown on the status window. "There is a way to level up, right? Like, to get stronger?"
[Confirmed. Training oneself, performing combat, killing beings are the most common ways to 'level up.']
"It's like a video game, isn't it?" (Except that if I die, it will be a permanent 'game over.)
Heath glanced at his game status once again. "Explain to me what the 'GD' stands for?"
['GD' stands for 'Grade.' 'Grade' is the current power that the skills possess and the proficiency you have in using these skills. Grade will increase as one's proficiency through constant use of these skills increases, leading to the power displayed increasing correspondingly. There are a total of 10 Grades for every skill. Mastery means the skill has reached its full potential and cannot be developed further.]
Looking at the pitiful amount of skills that he had, Heath saw that the only skill he had was Basic Combat. The other skills appeared to belong to his unique ability. He could mostly understand the basic concept of these skills except for [Mystic Eye].
When Heath eyes, however, fell on the pile of bones from the bear skeleton, words appear in his vision.
[Skeletal Bones
Grade: E
Description: These white bones once belong to an undead skeleton. These bones are good for making armor for adventures and can be grind into powder as a main ingredient for the Bone Strengthening Potion.]
"???"
[[Mystic Eye] GD:1 - appraisal of all things considered as objects such as weapons, materials, herbs, etc.]
"...not people and monsters?"
[Ability to appraise people and monsters will be available in [Mystic Eye] GD: 2]
Heath was speechless.

"No, don't come any further!" a scream pierced through the silent air.
A young man wearing a shabby gray robe and wielding a meter long wooden staff desperately ran in the muddy grounds of a desolate wasteland. The young man continues to look back behind his back with a frantic expression.
The young man's body suddenly froze and stiffened. He felt a warm liquid trickling down his skin from his chest and he had a bad premonition. Looking down, he saw a blade protruding from his chest with blood dripping off the tip. The young man opened his mouth as if wanting to say something but nothing came out from his mouth. The blade retracted and the young man fell forward silently. The person did not move again.
The bloodstained dagger was flipped casually into the air multiple times by a figure wearing a long-sleeved black robe. The figure's face was hidden by the robe's cowl. However, if one looked close enough, they would see a white face mask with nothing but a bloody red smile painted near the bottom. The entire figure's body seemed to flicker, suddenly disappearing and appearing at random moments, giving it an aura of obscurity.
A soft breeze past by the figure. After the air had settled, the figure vanished, as if it was never there to begin with.
