This was my first mistake. I was young ,fourteen years old, and I was curious. I was one of those people who liked hearing about ghost stories , paranormal phenomena and all that jazz. I had heard of the term astral projection many times before but on that day I decided that I'd look it up on my good old friend the internet. I came upon a website that gave instructions on different methods for having the infamous OBE.(having? doing? i dunno.)
I read all the methods and then decided to try the rope method that night. If I'm to be frank with you it was completely unsuccessful.
The next night I decided to try another method I think it was OBE through lucid dreaming but I had forgotten most of what I'd read and was to lazy to go back. So as I was falling asleep I tried keeping my mind alert and ,unfortunately, open. My body began to feel as though it was being tossed about in a boat on a ferocious river.
Then I could suddenly see a room. It was made of what I would describe as a checker pattern but with triangles. The image of this room was shifting, moving and constantly changing as easily as water does but it was slow and gentle. I wasn't in the room although my position suggested otherwise. I could feel I was elsewhere. I moved my physical body in an attempt to leave. The room's movements became violent and rageful. It seemed like the room was attempting to keep me there but the image of the room soon faded. I shifted my position and successfully fell asleep without a hitch.
The next few days went past like any other days in any other person's life. Unlike other people though I had seen the room and my curiosity was at it's peak. I tried again one night and the only things that were different was A) the fact that I was expecting most of it and B) that instead of getting tossed around I went straight to the room.
The next night I went to sleep and without even trying I was in that room again. Although that didn't seem very alarming since I began dreaming soon after. I should have said this earlier but everytime I'd entered the room it was while I was still conscious rather than asleep. After that night it happened every time I was falling asleep and to be honest it never bothered me. Then again I had never entered the room before.
This had been going on for a few months when i made my second mistake. I was at a sleepover with some of my friends who were also into the more ghostly side of the story. It just so happens that one of said friends ,Carla , had received a spirit board for her birthday and was rather keen on giving it a whirl. Me and Maggie however decided to sit out and play GoFish in the corner. I reminded them on what not to ask if they actually entered a conversation and we all continued with our games.
Let me explain one thing, this friend group consisted of Carla, Maggie , Sophia , Jasmine and myself so three at the board two playing cards.
We played for a few minutes and I could feel the tension from the board players rising when suddenly Sophia called to us. She told us that whoever they had contacted wasn't going to talk to any of the rest of them and that me and Maggie should try. After a while of being pestered we agreed.
I went first since I placed my finger tips on the planchette and asked a simple question "What's your favourite season?" the piece then spelled out -W-I-N-T-E-R-. The other girls shot excited glances around the group. "Why is it your favourite season?" I asked. -Y-O-U-R- -D-E-A-T-H- it wrote back. the atmosphere became tense.-W-H-O- -A-R-E- -Y-O-U- the board wrote to me.
I hadn't heard of stories where the board asked the player questions. Without thinking I stated my name.
I heard something rustling behind me but I ignored it. "Who are you?" I asked the board.-Y-O-U- -D-O-N-T- -N-E-E-D- -T-O- -K-N-O-W- the board spelled back. "Where are you," I asked hoping to give my
friends/audience a longer show as I could feel whoever it was began to pull away from the board. -I-N-S-I-D-E- -N-O-W- it wrote before moving the planchette was forcefully drawn to GOODBYE.
We all stared in silence at the board for a few moments. Before Jasmine made a comment about hanging up first and boyfriends or something. Maggie said something about the board saying I was going to die in winter. I countered her worries by telling her that we were all to die someday and that we shouldn't worry about it.
We discussed the events of this evening and went over the notes Sophia had written, the reason for the rustling, and went to sleep when Carla's mom told us to hit the hay.
I closed my eyes and attempted to sleep. I saw the room and fell asleep. I could feel I was asleep but I was still in the room. It felt solid as though I had entered the room. I was standing upright and there was something else about the atmosphere. I could feel a sort of dull static throughout my form as though I was the noise coming out of the radio on a distant signal.
I was still for a few minutes and then I attempted movement. When i moved i felt the static intensifie and then fade quickly. it made me notice that although I was somewhat in the shape of my physical body I was more of a cloud of static. This form felt comfortable and welcoming no matter how estranged it was from my original body. I ignored the sensations as I began moving around.
I found that although the shifting walls made it seem like there were corridors, exits and tunnels It was only a single small room. I could never tell when I was going to walk into something so I opted to stay still.
I suddenly noticed something infront of me. It was a black mass of something among the fluid triangles. it was a creature unknown to me and in the hint of a moment I knew it was my fault for sending out an invitation and my fault for handing it the letter opener.
