Chapter 7 - Friend or Foe

"So you.. were thirteen years old… when you killed 46 people?..." The beautiful female sitting beside the broken storyteller whispered. The man laughed, his spent cigarette sizzling in the ashtray in front of him. Then he said;

"At the time, I thought I had no choice. Me and my companions were stuck in an unwinnable position.. It was only thanks to Rai-, I mean Red's, intellect.. that we survived." The man caught his mistake and cleared his throat in an attempt to mask it.

"All forty six of those other kids had powers as well, Red was nothing without his intellect, so he'd spend his free time watching people on the playground. Taking notes on the abilities and mannerisms of the other kids. I guess now he could use that knowledge." The man had drawn the woman in once again as he continued to tell his story.

The group of boys were now only several miles from the edge of the forest from Blue's calculations. It was convenient that before this deadly exercise they were bathed and fed, so hunger and comfort were of no issue.

"Everyone stop." Red suddenly ordered while reaching to grab Gray's shoulder. His eyes were closed and he appeared to be listening, but in fact he was feeling, reaching out with his mind's eye.

"Something's coming.. Gray, you should hide, I don't want you going berserk." His grip tightened on Gray's human shoulder.

Gray was already clutching onto his demon arm, the bloodlust had only gotten worse since he began walking. He needed to find a way to calm it down, or escape from this life or death situation. Gray nodded, lowering onto his knees in a prayer stance.

Green finally piped up, "What's coming Red?.."

Red glanced back towards Blue and Green, correcting Green's question, "Not what… More likely, who."

Just then, a previously absent gust of wind rustled the trees, the bushes also shivering and dancing against the foul breeze. A sharp sound carried over the wind, alerting Blue.

"Whoever it is, they aren't alone." Blue confirmed,

Red nodding in thanks and signaling with his hands for the three of them to move separate from Gray. The three of them pushed onward into a clearing between the trees, a stump and a felled tree decorated the odd clearing, signs of a battle. Gray remained hidden in the brush, his human hand clutching a Buddhist charm while he recited a calming chant. Red examined the cut along the tree stump to the South, and Green scanned the edges of the clearing; No sign of the would be enemies, until suddenly Blue growled in an animalistic manner, his fingers curling like the claws of a cat as he faced North, opposite of Green and Red.
