Chereads / Trace System / Chapter 8 - The First Trace

Chapter 8 - The First Trace

After he reached school, Noah received an email of club approval. Feeling excited, Noah told Alfred. However, he forgot a simple problem…

"What the heck is a survival club? Have you lost your mind because of studying too much?" Noah forgot to tell Alfred what the club was about. However, his next words made Noah smile. "Sounds fun! You should've told me from the beginning!"

Noah forgot that Alfred was from a martial arts clan and a renowned fighting addict. That's why the club's name grabbed his attention. Well, he'll be in for a treat with all the preparation they would be making…

However, Noah couldn't get the funding just yet. The club must have 5 members in total before he could apply for funding. He can probably convince Kura by next week… As for the other two members, one of them had to be Jay. As for the last one, Noah had someone in mind.

After the last period was over, Noah went to his club room. With Alfred, he cleaned the room and rearranged the furniture. It 5 meters long and 4 meters wide so it was big enough for their club activities. After hanging the sign of the club, Noah posted about it on the Star Network. However, he didn't have much hope about it since everyone was busy with superhumans to notice his Survival Club.

[Item name: Coffee. Level: 0. Made by: Elliana Oran.]

"It's showing more information now…" The coffee's bitter taste lingered as Jay read the message.

She was relieved that she wasn't mentally ill. However, she couldn't help but feel apprehensive of reporting her ability to the superhumans union. She didn't want to enter that world and be used like before.

Jay was lost in thought when she felt a cold breeze grazing her back. She looked behind her and saw Noah entering the café. Meeting each other's gaze, the two smiled.

"Oh! If it isn't ex-class mentor!" Noah grinned and sat facing Jay. The latter smiled faintly and sighed. Noah was Noah after all. If she couldn't trust him after all the help he gave during these years, she would be an idiot.

The two chatted for a while before Noah asked her the reason for their meeting. Jay felt her heart aching and took out something from her bag.

"This is..." Noah took several pieces of crumpled paper and frowned. There were curse words and threats written on the paper.

"These started appearing in my locker on the second day. For the culprit, I think you can already guess… I want your advice on how to deal with this. After all, in your first year…"

"So those guys still have this mentality, huh. I never expected Ella to do such a thing…"

"I think it was Rick and the other guy." Jay shook her head. She didn't envision Ella doing such a lowly act.

"I'm sorry you had to go through this. The only reason I kept befriending those guys were connections. Now, that became unnecessary…"

"Huh? What do you mean?" Jay put her cup down furrowing her brows.

"Nothing. Leave this to me. I know a person who can help. By the way, do you want to join my club? I know you left the handcraft club last year." Noah asked the thing he had in mind for a while. Even if Jay didn't have any potential, he would still help her during the Reversal.

"Club? On the last semester?" Jay asked with surprise. It was a known fact that Noah didn't do any activities other than studying.

"Yeah. It's about…" Noah told her about his club. However, unlike Alfred, Jay didn't grow excited about it. She didn't understand why Noah would do such a thing.

"Well… I'll join as paying you back for your help. I don't have a lot of studying anyway. Besides, the study God can bless me~" Jay said playfully earning a laugh from Noah.

The two kept talking for a while. The chat reached a brief silence and Jay gathered her courage to tell Noah about her secret. Noah was the most logical person she had known by far. He had a rational thinking ability and was mature beyond his age.

"Noah." Jay stared directly into Noah's eyes. The latter returned her gaze and his heart started beating a little faster.

"I know this sounds crazy, but did you hear about those abilities people have? The truth is..."

Noah went back home and lied on his bed. He didn't believe that Jay would be superhuman. However, her ability was weird as well. If he wasn't mistaken, it was an appraising ability. Noah can also read the item's description. However, that applied to the ones gained by the system. He couldn't do so for any item as Jay did. Although her ability sounded useless now, Noah knew it was crucial during the reversal.

Before he parted with Jay, he grazed her hand accidentally. She had a potential of 90% and a loyalty of 66%, giving Noah 66 TPs, making them 110 in total. Now he was planning to level up and save the rest for later.

[Requirements have been met to clear the First Trace! Would the user like to initiate?]

"What? What is the first trace? Initiate what?" Noah was surprised by the sudden notification.

[The First Trace is one of the challenges laid by the hidden entities in the universe. The Trace System can connect to these challenges when requirements are met. The requirements for the First Trace are a minimum of 15 points for all stats! Each challenge has two rewards. The reward that is given by the entity and the reward of the system. Would the user like to initiate?]

After listening to the explanation, Noah decided to refuse. He didn't know anything about these challenges and it might lead to death. However, as he was about to refuse, he remembered the video clip of the superhuman salary man saving the little girl.

'I can't keep being behind…'

"Initiate the First Trace!"

[Done!]

Noah blinked and his room disappeared. He appeared in the middle of a forest with gigantic trees. As he stood up and looked around, he can see nothing but greenery.

"Where am I?"

[Trace began! Please hunt 100 creatures in 6 days to clear the challenge. Challenge reward: One item. System reward: One skill. The challenge starts now!]
