Chapter 52 - Reapers (6)

"Your jokes are funny, but please keep it based in reality." Simon spoke as he continued sipping coffee through the straw.

The waitress glared at Simon as she started squeezing her hand s in annoyance, slowly building up the intensity of each of her breaths until Simon could audibly feel the magnitude of her emotions.

"You don't sound that old, show some respect! I am Hecate Reaper. I have you know that this is a temporary bit of training so 'I can learn manners.' So show some respect to a noble devil-"

"I will stop you right there." Simon spoke as he waved his right index finger in front of the waitress' mouth.

"Shhh..."

"You have one thing to learn about noble etiquette... you forgot to address me by my title, commoner." Simon seriously spoke as he inwardly giggled.

"...yes.... Aspiring sir..."

"Very good, we are making progress."

"Now tell me, why should I believe that the daughter of a diva is working in a cafe as a common waitress? Surely a diva could send their daughter to learn discipline by many other means, such as swordsmanship, meditation, and greeting guests. Why should I believe your words?" Simon playfully continued.

'There is a 75% chance that she is Hecate. In the event that she is, I will just stall for time until That naive brother of mine arrives. In any case, it would be better if they never meet, it's not like they are real fiancés of anything. This is more of a play date....'

'I keep slipping into that stupid noble state of mind! I already feel like I am becoming snobbier everyday single da*n day! F**k!' Simon inwardly complained.

'Whatever the case, I will stall for time.'

"Why should I explain myself to you? You are just a customer, not my parents, confessor, or life partner." The waitress retorted.

In any case, Simon didn't mind what happened here. The easiest way to complete the goal is to put Hecate out of the picture. By distracting her in this way, he gets to drink coffee and complete a goal without working that hard.

"Well you are the one that claimed to be a diva's daughter without a shred of evidence."

Sitting on his chair, Simon proceeded to stretch his forearms as if he didn't really care to much for the conversation. This was followed by him stretching his triceps too, as if he was deliberately trying to make her seem unimportant.

"O? Stretching your muscles? Are you trying to show off here?" The waitress chuckled.

"No, I just feel tired from the long travelling I have been through. All of this lying has hurt my head, lying is dangerous, you know?" Simon joked.

The cafe at this point in time was nearly empty, the only people that were here were Simon, the waitress and a few other staff and maybe two independent customers who weren't listening at all. People at cafes tended to mind their own business.

Just like that, Simon joked and continued arguing with the waitress for another two or so hours, going back and forth as Simon would put forth a counter argument for every excuse the Waitress could come up with. In Simon's opinion, Hecate did indeed feel like an arrogant and disrespectful devil, but in the presence of a devil with grey horns, she obviously couldn't fully let out her dark side. He was sure that if he had the exact same behaviour and looks as his brother, he would probably have been beaten and bullied out of the cafe by now.

"My shift is going to end soon, so I will be never seeing you again soon!" The waitress sighed in relief.

"Aaaww...you hate me? Well isn't that just nice?" Simon laughed.

'Well, whatever, she won't have enough energy to bully that little brother of mine. It's time to leave.'

'Here is 10 blood coins for the coffee, I will be taking my leave now. Goodbye, miss." Simon happily announced as he walked straight out of the cafe.

'Perhaps I may have been a tad rude while I was in there. But then again, she's a witch, why should I care? My family might just end up being slaughtered because of her pretty face, a pretty face full of evil intent. Well at the very least, That brother of mine should have entered the mansion without any issues and is probably waiting in the main lobby. This will mean that Hecate cannot easily bring lackeys into the premises to bully him. After all, the only reason she wasn't caught in my novel was because her minions beat Jazukal near a small shed at the cover of night.'

'For now, I can only pray that my brother doesn't get himself killed. Perhaps he even grew a little while I was in closed door training? Perhaps I won't have to worry? But in any case, he is still naive and I know better.'

'As long as he keeps guard against the witch, he should do find and find his own suitable partner during the Adulthood Ceremony. The actual ritual part will of course be up to him. He could always try to hide and hope that his partner doesn't find him.'

THUD

A sudden noise of a body dropping had made its way towards Simon's ears.

"Stop it! You don't know who you are messing with!" The waitress shouted as a muscular grey-horned devil shoved her to the ground, accompanied by 3 other white-horned accomplices.

"Huh? You don't think we haven't already thought this through? There's an alleyway right there, no one will hear you~"

'Cliche.' Simon inwardly puked.

'A hero would go up and save the fair lady, a man that understands proper conventions will call the custodians.'

"DAMN IT! The custodians are here! Scatter!"

'Being the hero seems fun and all, but it is a sign of a foolish and irrational individual. When a crime happens, why let an inexperienced juvenile solve it when there are professional lawmen just a signal away?'

A red figure entered and escaped the waitress' field of view as the custodians appeared and arrested the devils. She felt confused and angered. The current thought however, was to execute the criminals in the most painful way possible. The red figure was a discussion for a later date.
