Ji Weitian: "???"
"Once there was a person who always liked to work alone in the laboratory until very late. One day, he heard a 'thud, thud, thud' sound coming from the window in the lab. He thought someone was knocking on the window. Do you know what he saw when he walked up to it?"
The deep, magnetic voice narrated a creepy ghost story, making it sound like a fairy tale.
If not for the tiny bit of rationality Ji Weitian still possessed, she might have actually asked, "What did he see?"
Although she didn't ask, she couldn't stop Qin Nanyu from continuing—
Ji Weitian's nerves tightened as she quickly spoke before him, "I'm not scared of these supernatural things at all, so don't try to frighten me..."
As soon as Ji Weitian started speaking, Qin Nanyu suddenly reached out his arm and with a "snap" turned off the lights in the lab. The once-bright lab was instantly plunged into darkness where one couldn't see beyond their hand.
"Ah—"
Startled, Ji Weitian jumped with both legs and clung directly onto Qin Nanyu, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck, fearing that if she let go, a ghoul would really take her away from outside the lab window.
Her daughter was still young and couldn't be without a mother!
Qin Nanyu had merely intended it as a prank to scare her and hadn't expected her to be so easily frightened, leaping towards him in a second and clinging to him like an octopus, squeezing his neck so tightly he almost couldn't breathe.
Qin Nanyu tried to pry her off twice but couldn't, panting, "No ghost could be fiercer than you. Ji Weitian, let go!"
The person clinging to him didn't move a muscle.
It was only when Qin Nanyu finally managed to gasp for air and get to the lab switch, turning the lights back on, that he escaped Weitian's clutches and got a reprieve.
He reached out to adjust his tie with a stern face, glaring at the innocent-looking person. "With courage like a rabbit, getting scared with just one ghost story, and yet you dare come into the lab with others?"
"So what if, if I'm timid? I'm not afraid of ghosts. Can't I be afraid of the dark?"
Ji Weitian retreated several steps under his glare, licking her lips. "I... I didn't do it on purpose. You suddenly turned off the lights and scared me. It's getting late now; I should head home."
Ji Weitian ran out of the experimental building, bolting in the direction of her home.
Her heart was filled with regret over her overly dramatic reaction earlier.
Despite having years of education, which bolstered her belief in materialism, she had been frightened by a ghost story. It was too embarrassing.
On the quiet school path, Ji Weitian was the only one.
Yet, it might have been her imagination, but she suddenly felt the night was especially eerie.
As she walked, it seemed like there was a second set of footsteps behind her...
Ji Weitian felt a chill on her spine but didn't dare look back, quickening her pace.
But as she sped up, the footsteps behind seemed to pick up their pace too...
That jinx Qin Nanyu, speaking nonsense—is it possible, could there really be a ghost following her?
Ji Weitian forced herself to calm down. The education she had received didn't allow her to believe in such supernatural nonsense, but her instincts told her someone was definitely stalking her.
So late at night...
Ji Weitian glanced around and saw there were no pedestrians nearby. She bent down, took off her shoes, and held them in her hand, abruptly turning around to confront the possible prowler. Just before she threw the shoes, Qin Nanyu's tall figure happened to step under the dim streetlamp.
Seeing her turn, he raised his head to look at her—
