Chapter 4 - The child in the hall

After Sun got dressed she stepped out of her room wearing the blue dress Ming had bought for her. She saw the busy hall of the hospital, doctors wearing white coats went around with their daily businesses.

She looked for Ming but she couldn't find him anywhere. Then she saw a child clutching a Teddy bear and sitting on a chair down the hall. The little girl looked really scared and Sun felt really bad seeing her in that state.

She wanted to go to that little girl and comfort her. But what if she couldn't find Ming after that, what then? She contemplated a bit before convincing herself that it was just down the hall so she could go. As she moved she felt a hand grab her wrist, she wasn't even able to reach a shocked state when she was suddenly spun around and stood face to face with her captor. Her eyes became wide with shock.

...

Ming was pacing the hall when he saw Sun emerge from her room. She looked really cute in her dress. He had bought her the dress as a gift but could never give it to her. Then the incident happened.

He looked up, breaking free from his thoughts. He walked towards Sun as he approached her, he saw her looking at something. But what was she looking at. He had to get closer to see. He walked up and stood beside her.

She then tried to walk away. Was she trying to run away? What was going on with this girl?

He grabbed her wrist before she could get too far and spun her to face him, lightly placing his hand on her waist.

He stared straight into her wide eyes. Her hair was a bit messy but she still looked cute. And why was she shocked, did she forget what he looked like already?

"What were you looking at?" he asked

"And where were you going? You weren't trying to run away just now, were you?" He continued pulling her closer and narrowing his eyes at her.

"Hey, your grip is too tight" Sun said trying to break free. He let go of her waist but held her hands.

"So tell me what were you looking at?" he asked again.

"I just saw that girl over there, she was holding a Teddy bear and looked really scared. S..so I thought I could put her at ease" Sun replied fidgeting and pointing in the direction she saw the girl.

"What girl?" he asked causing her to turn quickly, while speaking. "She's right... Where did she go?" she asked shocked. "I could have sworn she was there" she said shrugging.

He stepped back and examined her. She looked healthy and she wasn't wobbly so they could leave. "Let's leave, you have been discharged" he said before turning to leave.

She followed him walking silently behind him. As the maneuvered their way through the hospital hall to the elevator, he didn't look back at her even once. He just kept walking. Sun thought as she walked behind him. She had been quiet the whole way staring down at her feet. Seeing the two of them walking, you'd think she had just been scolded for being to excited.

She looked up as she caught a glimpse of that little girl again. And she immediately stopped. Ming took a few steps forward and stopped when he couldn't hear her faint footsteps behind him. He turned around and saw her staring at something.

He walked behind her and placed a hand on her shoulder, she didn't react forcing him to ask what was wrong.

"That little girl is scared" she said without taking her eyes off whatever she was looking at.

Ming didn't understand what she meant. "What little girl?" he asked.

"Are you blind? How many little girls do you see?" she asked a little agitated.

Ming wasn't blind. The only problem was that he couldn't see the girl that had captured Sun's attention. He suddenly felt fear, What if Sun had gone crazy?

"D..Do you want to.. talk to that little girl?" he stuttered.

Sun smiled at him and moved towards the seat without giving him a verbal answer. She sat down and Ming moved closer to the set of chairs. He was scared to sit, what if he sat on the little girl without knowing? So he just stood there looking at Ming, scared of what might be wrong with her. Was she seeing ghosts now? Did she die and then come back with this special ability? He just couldn't think of any rational explanation.

Sun sat there comforting and conversing with the child and looking completely crazy.

"Sun, we have to leave now" Ming said finally. "But I can't just leave her here by herself" she retorted. "I'm sure someone will find her soon, we have to leave" Ming said and dragged Sun by her hand. He didn't let go of her hand or pay attention to her efforts to break free. As he tried to pull and she wouldn't move, he spun around in rage only to be met with a very awkward sight. Sun was sitting on the floor. He let go of her hand and she immediately crossed her hands across her chest. What was she doing? Did she know she was creating a scene?

Sun didn't look like she was going to get up anytime soon. So he bent and knelt on one knee intending to negotiate with her. Sun simply turned her back to him. "Sun you're acting like a child" he said. She didn't respond. "Sun we have to go. You're making a scene" still she said nothing. Ming took a deep breath before asking his next question. "Do you want to say goodbye to that little girl" and Sun answered with a slight nod. "You can go and say goodbye" as he concluded, Sun got up and sprinted to the chairs. She looked really cute, then she bent over and kissed the empty space or the little girl. Before standing up straight and running back to Ming's side smiling widely. "Can we leave now?" he asked and she nodded. Ming turned to leave and Sun slipped her fingers through his and took his hand. He looked over his shoulder and saw her smiling sweetly. He had never really seen her smile so prettily before. She looked really beautiful, he held her hand applying very little pressure when he squeezed her hand as they walked to the elevator.
