Chapter 6 - EARTH: Little Moments

I woke up on the ground of the hallway. I found myself backing up to the wall to steady myself into a stand. A Robed Man, whom I assumed to be my attacker, laid unmoving on a viscous pool of blood. Shrapnels of broken tiles were sticking out of the man's body and a huge hole of charred flesh was to be found on where its tummy should be. Its face was unrecognizable as flames may have burned it into a red mess of exposed flesh.

My head continued to throb and I let the wall assist me to move out of this place. The world was still in a sinister shade of red, and blood was dripping on my forehead.

"Mayari has escaped." The words, low but audible, bounced through the walls and found itself to my tingling ears.

"Goddamit!" A new voice blew out. "First Eclipse, now Mayari. Big Boss's gonna kill us." Their words were accompanied by a series of footsteps that echoed on the hall.

I quickened my pace as I moved along the red-hued walls. The footsteps grew louder faster than I can manage. As I shifted into a corner, a large window stood out. I forced myself into a run despite the pain that ached each every step for some reasons.

"I saw her!" Gunshots flew past me and I covered my head with my hands, as if it would make a significant difference if a bullet found itself to me. The alarm was muffled by the series of gunshots and I became unfeeling, but still mobile.

My attackers blasted the window open and as I reached at the end, I looked back at them. My gaze fell to my clothe filled with holes—and blood drenching away the white. I looked one last time at them and back away slowly until I felt my body fall.

The sensation of being free reminded me of the bird that always flew to the nest outside of my window. It had become a routine for me. To see the bird fly to it, embracing its gracious flapping of feeble wings. I always open my window to inhale the stench of the morning breeze and its caress to my olive skin.

A bird flew on the blue sky, knocking me into reality. The warm air brushed my skin, filling me with uneasiness—and glee. I smiled at it all. The yellow sun that warmed my face. The stench of wet leaves. The chilling cold holding me in an embrace. These are little moments I missed. And I'm happy that I get to experience it one last time.
