Deafened by the loud buzzing of his machine, Keith could not even think properly. He has been drilling through ground for the entire morning and he was starting to feel a pretty painful headache from all this sound.
'Ugh... Building a base sure isn't as easy as it seems!' The young man complained. After settling down on this new continent, Keith has been working on the plans of his future base for a while before finally starting to dig up the foundations. For the time being, he has not really planned for anything impressive but he would be able to extend this base as much as he wanted.
After taking a break from all this work, Keith realized that he had already recovered most of the technologies he had lost due to the long journey he had to go through. His drilling machine had already been rebuilt, and a lot more optimized than the first one at that, and the young man also had a small steam generator up and running to supply this machine with all the electricity it needed.
All in all, although he had lost over six months of work from that trip alone, Keith was able to get back on his feet and speedrun through the technologies he most required.
'I guess I'm not the most developed player of this game anymore... However I do have a perfect position to become one in the future.' He thought. 'Anyways, let's get back to work!'
_______________
Eric and his friends, who had founded the group named as 'Starise', were currently working on a base of their own. It had been quite a while since they left the World Spawnpoint altogether and they settled in a place where they could freely focus on technological improvements.
This journey had not really been uneventful, however. First off, they had to go around all these highly sought after territories, where large guilds fought against each other to rein supreme over these lands. After this overly complicated retreat, the group went through anothe couple of unfortunate encounters that led them even further away from the spawn area.
In fact, they even got massacred by a player equipped with a powerful firearm just when they though they had found a peaceful place to settled onto. Though, everything about this event was pretty confusing to them. It seemed like this player, or group of people, were developed enough to build a mansion near a lake and even placed down some traps around their territory to defend it.
Thus, after another couple of weeks of travel, the group finally decided to settled down in another promised land away from most of the other players of this game. Their instatement had already took place six months ago, and in the meantime the group has had room to grow. Although they did not recruit anyone else, they were able to craft numerous tools and weapons to help them in their quest of technological improvement.
In the meantime, they also managed to build a large portion of their mansion alongside a pretty big basement where they started their researches. Right off the bat, about three members of their group of seven players were assigned to the construction of a generator to produce some electricity for their base. Eric was one of them and he had huge ambitions regarding the future.
'I can't wait to show the world how much progress we've done!' He impatiently exclaimed in his mind. 'We're gonna prove how advanced we are, and those people who dared to execute me and my friends using firearms were but brutes who need to be educated.' The man affirmed to himself. Though, he had reasons to think that way. Most streamers who played this game only displayed some small improvements regarding technology and the Starise group certainly was one of the most developed ones.
They were about to discover electricity and all the things that ensued, after all.

A few weeks later, Keith dug up through the dirt and stone most of the shape he wanted his base to look like. The hole was not that deep because of collapsing, but Keith had planned to make up for it by erecting walls and pillars to enclose the rooms of his base.
Keith moved his generator and workbenches down there and even started upgrading his tools to help him in his tasks. The next step would be for him to create one of those stone cutters using electricity to run so he could start working on the walls of his base.
The young man also wanted to build a couple of furnaces to smelt some ore he was currently running out of at an alarming rate. Other than that, his path was pretty straight-forward from now on. On that note, Keith focused back on his generator and worked as diligently as he ever did... If not more because of a sudden surge in motivation.
One day, Keith who only looked at a small amount of pictures online about the spawn situation, was really surprised of discovering a huge city being built there. Some television channels must have deemed the topic worthy of a report and Keith was now witnessing the full extent of what players had built around the World Spawnpoint.
'It looks just like a medieval city. Did they finally settle down after all this nonsensical fighting over territory?' Were his first thoughts as he looked at his television screen while preparing a meal for himself. Wooden houses were being built thanks to a huge community effort, and roofs made out of thatchs were made to resist the rain and provide a safe and sound habitat for the new players.
'It almost feels like a utopia.' Keith commented. 'Did something happen to make they forget about their greedy behaviours and nature as a human? Anyways, I still think my decision of leaving the continent was for the better, I just hope this kind of community projects keeps on being elaborated in the future so no one has to go through those calamities that happened back then.'
The report followed on with its news report by showing off the human-made constructions in full size, dicussing about how important such a community effort this was. This really made Keith a bit more cheerful because television did not usually talk about games that much. Being told how great of a game Project Overworld was through the news sure was an interesting event to behold.
'Anyways, I'll watch into the matter when I get back home. For now, I have to focus on my studies.' The young man concluded as he prepared to go back to University for the afternoon.
After a long day of work, Keith finally connected to Project Overworld. Over the last few weeks, he had finished working on the foundations of his base and even started erecting large stone walls to hold off the future roof of his base.
In the meantime, the young man had also completed his second generator, which was bigger and a bit more efficient than the first one. As for the rest, he had yet to build any significant machinery to help him in his tasks.
He was not in a rush, however, and Keith progress at a steady pace without overworking himself out. It was a nice change in pace relatively to the experience he went through since the start of this game. For the time being, he would be focusing on finishing his the premices of his base and decorating everything to his liking.
As for his future plans, he had a lot to doin terms of technology. He wanted to create various electrical devices to help make it a better place to live in while helping him out on larger projects such as the construction of a coal factory. This was the real goal he had set for himself for the time being, and he actually thought he would be able to start working on this project in a few months of time.
Once he had a steady source of electricity, everything would become so much easier. Who knows, maybe he could finally focus on making automated processes that could dig up some ores and build some materials for him while he was away.
