Chapter 20 - Gathering up

A loud buzzing resonated throughout the landscape. This sort of din was ready odd in such a peaceful place seemingly untouched by human hand.

However, a young man was digging through dirt and stone under what seemed the foundations of a base. Keith was currently arranging a basement for his mansion, so he could be installing some of his machineries down there. Deactivating his drilling machine for a bit, he sighed in elation. Hearing such a powerful noise for an extended period of time did make him feel a dizzy.

Although his eardrums could not be damaged because he was doing all of this inside a simulation, he still felt quite unseasy. Though, the reason he currently was doing all of this would be for the future of his base. Having a basement certainly showed some advantages. Firstly, he would not have to increase the surface area of his mansion meaning that there would be no more foundations to be made for the time being.

Keith also did not have to build walls down there and only focused on reinforcing the dirt walls so they would not collapse. On top of that, Keith would be able to install his loudest machines under his base so he would not be disturbed by a constant buzzing or anything like that.

After completing his first drilling machine design, Keith spent another couple of weeks improving upon this tool while building a larger and more optimized steam-powered generator. Thought the latter was not yet fully constructed, Keith's drilling unit helped him dig up some dirt around and arrange a nice looking room under his base.

'Well, looks like this thing is starting to look like a real base, isn't it?' Keith admired the fruits of his labor before activating the drill again and having the deafening din cover all of his thoughts.

It has been over six months since the start of this game, and about two and a half since Keith left his previous base. Although the progress of the community was quite slow, the young man could not be complaining about any of that.

In fact, having such a complex game at hand gave him a lot of leeway to progress on his own without being overwhelmed by other people's work. The engineers  of this world created some really impressive things like lightbulbs and new ways to travel around the world using bikes, but for the time being Keith was quite confident in his abilities to match any of their inventions.

Had not he constructed steam-powered generator and a drilling machine, after all? If he had been interested in producing light, he could have done so earlier, could not he? Though, the young man felt like his own work was miles away from being complete and there were so much improvement to do that he sometimes felt desperate. In any case, most of the technological improvements people were working towards were related to military weapons.

These lightbulb invention would not be used by the majority of the population unless they calmed down and started constructing cities. Same thing for the bikes, it would be quite an inconvenient way to travel around unven landscape. That was why, rifles and siege weapons were much more sought after than any other inventions people could come up with.

- "Our main squadron was repelled, chief." The scout hurriedly reported on the situation.

- "What do you mean, repelled?!" Alan rose in tone after hearing this bad piece of news.

- "It's just like what happened to the Pioneers, they kept on re-spawning and ultimately crumbled our outpost apart, leaving us no choice but to evacuate the area."

Massaging his temples, the guild leader of the New Dawn took a bit of time to think about the whole situation.

- "Well, we shouldn't be focusing on controling the World Spawnpoint anymore. Tell the main squadron to go back to the northeastern outpost and restock on ammunitions. The Pioneers may take the opportunity launch an attack on our positions." Alan expressedly told the scout.

The latter left the office immediately to inform the main army about the new orders. As for the guild leader, he felt quite a bit concerned.

'What should we do about this Spawn area? Is it really impossible to conquer by force?' He started thinking about all the solutions they could be using to get their hand on this important place. Even after such a crushing defeat, the man could not just forget about the World Spawnpoint since controling it would allow the New Dawn to rule over the whole playerbase.

However, since the respawn rate of this place was only a few seconds long, people could infinitely respawn there and rush the invader barehanded to destroy their installations. That was how the New Dawn lost a really advanced outpost on that day.

What was most concerning to Alan was the fact new players were starting to rassemble near the World Spawnpoint and built a few homes there. Having a third party interfer with his plans of conquest of the world really put a load onto his shoulders.

'Maybe we could negotiate with these players to gift them some resources in exchange for a good place to establish near the Spawn area?' Alan meditated. In fact, if brute force was not of any help to resolve that matter, what about gaining their trust? That was the current trail of thoughts of the leader of the New Dawn guild.

'Anyways, we should start taking care of the Pioneers with our new generation of siege weapons. They currently are thinking we would need a bit of time to regroup and rebuild a few outposts. That's why it's the perfect time to strike back at them and inflict a huge blow onto their structures.' Alan decided, a malicious expression pointing on his face.

_______________

After finishing the construction of his basement, Keith focused on elaborating the surface area of his mansion. He had already made a few plans on what his future base would look like and it was time to take care of this matter.

For the time being, the young man did not have a lot of resources to chose from to make the walls and the foundations of this building, but he did not really care about how ugly his place would look like. Though, he did decide upon using cut stone for the walls since it looked really good and quite sturdy.

Similarly to how he used cement to produce concrete, Keith would be using a hydraulic binder to glue the stones together while erecting the walls of his mansion. The more complex part of this build would be the construction of its roof but Keith had quite a bit of time before him be concerned about this fact yet. For the time being, the young man was developing quite well and even started the construction of a stone cutter.

He currently had three projects at hand with the completion of his second steam generator, the elaboration of his base and the making of a stone cutter. All of these required different types of materials and Keith spent about seventy to eighty percent of his time down some caves to collect resources. This was a bit inconveniant, but after he was done completing his generator he would be able to fully utilize his drilling machine to dig up a lot of space within those cave systems.

Afterwards, finding metal ores would not be as hard as it has been up until now, and gathering stone would be even easier than when he used to be furnished by the New Dawn guild. Equipped with his pickaxes and torches, Keith went back to one of the nearby mountains and started mining some more ores.

'Let's finish up this base so I am able to focus on more important projects!' He excitedly thought.
