'What is this supposed to represent?' Amber was trying to understand the plan that the volunteer handed to her. Although some parts were subtly burnt off, it was pretty well preserved.
'Wait, isn't this oddly similar to Niflheim?' She suddenly remembered the plans of the city she had at her office. In fact, if you looked closer you could recognize the walls as well as the various buildings of the harbor city organized in a well-ordered manner.
However, this plan also featured parts that were not present in her own plans. There were arrows, crosses and circles drawn everywhere, as if the one who did this prepared for an actual battle.
'What if..? Didn't those guys..?' She was slowly realizing the true identity of the players who were inhabiting this area before it was destroyed. 'No it shouldn't be possible... Or is it? Did a war bursted out within their own ranks? Did another group of terrorist got rid of them? This doesn't make any sense.'
Though, there was no time to waste here if her theory was correct.
- "Everyone, let's got back to Midgard with all of the evidence we gathered here. We shall report on the situation to the citizen. Also, there is a strong chance that the group 'Rebellion' has been entirely destroyed and that their member may be dispersed throughout the city. Find them, we shall question them on the whatever happened there."
They all started to climb back up before turning towards the direction of Midgard, running all the way there.
Fortunately, there were several policemen affected to the world spawnpoint. At least four of them were always patrolling around the large area to constantly check if there was a battle that broke up in there or if some wanted criminals respawned there for some reason.
And today, in fact, a large group of monitored criminals showed up before them. They did not get any chance to flee and were quickly shackled by some ropes. Although they had not done anything wrong this time around, meaning they would not be put in jail, the police needed to interrogate them on their purpose to visit Midgard this time around.
When Amber returned to the city, she found all of them in the police station. If was a huge relief to her. She wanted answers, as quickly as possible.
She suddenly noticed that their leader, Spirit Fragment, was among them. Without hesitation, she turned towards him and started the questionning.
- "What happened to all of you? Did another group of criminal decide to cut you off?
- "We don't know about that yet. We could not see anyone before some sort of a flying object crashed down on our land. Before knowing it, we were all sent to the world spawnpoint because our beds had been destroyed."
Before Amber could follow up with the questions, another member of the 'Rebellion' took the lead.
- "I was just outside of our base when I noticed a large metal object coming in our general direction. I didn't see it clearly, since it was flying at several hundred miles per hour. However, next thing I knew, this thing was burried deep underground and the whole area exploded in a matter of seconds. If you want my opinion, this thing was a freaking missile."
This testimony immediately stopped Amber in her tracks. She was about to ask something else, but the fact that a missile could have been launched from somewhere in the world meant that they were not safe anywhere.
'No way a player launched a missile, right? These guys must have exploded their own stocks of explosives on accident and are now trying to divert the attention from them.'
- "Were there any dissident member in your Rebellion? Or any clumsy ones?"
- "Only I had access to our stocks of explosives. The room was dug up deep underground and had a large tunnel leading to it. There is no way that one of our members could have triggered the explosion. At least not with a few tons of explosives on their own."
- "And how were you preventing access to this area?"
- "There were several locked doors on the way there, only the keys in my possession were able to open them. And before you ask, yes these keys were stored in my inventory, no way for anyone to get their hands on them."
'So it wasn't coming from the interior?' Amber was getting more and more concerned as she was talking to Spirit Fragment.
- "Do you believe in what your subordinate just said?"
- "I can't verify it, but I am certain that there have been two explosions leading to our destruction. The first one threw me to the ground, and the second killed me instantly."
She turned back towards the witness of the explosion.
- "Did you see from where this... missile was coming from?" She asked.
- "Yeah, for sure I saw this damn flying object coming from the north. Also a bit towards the east. It came from across the ocean I think. Or sea, I don't know yet."
- "Thank you for your cooperation, you will all be released in an hour from now after we make sure you have nothing left in your inventory. Though, last time around we didn't catch all of you. You will serve your sentence like anyone else." She said, looking straight at Spirit Fragment.
She then turned around and went back to her office.
'What a concerning event. I should also prepare to notify the population about what actually happened over there. Should I tell them about the possibilty of another group of terrorists emerging? Or was this a revenge-attack on the terrorists coming from a benevolent being? Whatever the case, what am I supposed to say...' She breathed out, despaired.
_______________
For the days following his intercontinetal attack at the terrorist's hideout, Keith's attention was attracted towards the large quantity of posts and news being written on the subject.
Various explantations were being raised by the community, until the municipal team of Midgard pronounced themselves.
According to their investigation, they found out that the explosion has been aimed towards the group of rebels who committed terrorist acts against their city.
There was no informations about the people responsible for this destruction, excepting that the attack probably came from overseas.
The rest of the post displayed several pictures taken at the epicenter of the explosion. This was what shocked the people more than anything else. This large gaping hole, the nearby mountain that could collapse on itself at any moment and the ravaging fires all around the landscape.
If people had no idea about how hell could be pictured as, these pictures were making them think otherwise.
This official communication just revived all the debates about the subject. Some were trying to find out who could be the instigators of the attack, others were simply expressing their fears of a potential attack at Midgard or Niflheim.
Responding to the later were several thousands of people thinking that this whole operation had been done by a benevolent player who just wanted to eradicate these terrorists from the world.
Regardless of who could be responsible for this explosion, some were fantasizing about the power those beings could have. What were their technology? How was the attack organized? Was it done from a distance or up close?
Everyone was giving away their own opinion on the subject, but this only made Keith more embarrassed.
'I did what had to be done. Those terrorists are seriously going to think twice before exploding another city. This should also calm the ardor of other groups of malicious players.' Keith concluded. 'However, this also turned the spotlight towards me. They know the attack was coming from my general direction. Though, the fear of the unknown should give me some time before they start investigating this continent.'
While thinking about this matter, Keith was activating himself with the construction of his third 'Watchdog' satellite. It was almost finished and highlighted some new features such as the possibility to adjust its trajectory by a very small margin thanks to special electrical motors. With the solars panels it was equipped with, this should allow it to be much more autonomous while staying in orbit for a few more years. Not that it mattered anyways because he was not planning to stay on this planet for this much time.
Keith also developed an upgraded version of the camera the last two satellites were equipped with for this new one. It would allow him to have much more precise pictures with a bit of a depth perception.
Finally, the last upgrade was done to the launcher itself. In fact, the last stage has been revamped so that it could launch the satellite into a much faster orbit. This would have been impossible with 'Watchdog 1' and 'Watchdog 2' since the camera they were equipped with could follow up at such a speed.
The update rate of such pictures would be about fifty percent more quick. If he has had this type of satellite to begin with, the whole 'Intercontinental Operation' would have lasted twice as less time.
But there was bound to be errors and development along the way. He could not just make the perfect machine from the start.
He was already proud of what he had accomplished in one year and a half since the game was released.
Although it was just a game, he knew that the knowledge he has gathered here would be helping him throughout his life.
'Alright, let's move onto the assembling part of the rocket.'
