Chapter 36 - Chapter 35 Furry and regret

Weeks passed quickly. Kira learned to spend the best of her time there at Magic high, but she can't help but notice that her brother's protectiveness towards her is growing stronger every other day. At some point, she felt like a total burden.

There's also some part of her that says her brother's protectiveness was not love but obsession and rivalry. Especially when it comes to Red, Kishi sometimes get carried away and his coldness would sometimes frighten her. She felt lonely, for once she felt alone in her life like never before. It reminds her of her bloody nightmare, yet all those times, Kishi always failed to notice.

On Sunday noon, the twins were at the palace in their bedroom. Kishi was playing the koto, with great gentleness of the music. And Kira was hugging Fuffy with her back on him.

"So, what's wrong?" he sighed

"Why do you care?" she shot back at him

"Kira..."

"Stay away from me!" she suddenly jumped up, when Kishi reached out to her

"What's with your attitude! What have I done for you to act this way?!"

"What? Now it's my fault?" she asked in disbelief, this isn't the reaction she expected him to have. She felt disgruntled, frustration filled her, and she wasn't able to suppress it anymore. So, without intention to, her anger got ahead of her.

"Must be hard, huh? Having an awfully weak wimp for a sister"

"Kira--I--"

"No! I'm really sorry! Sorry for being a burden, dragging you down--"

"CAREFUL!!" Kira accidentally tripped over the koto, and fell backwards, off the bed. Kishi tried to catch her, but both of them just fell off and rolled over the marble floor.

Feeling pain in every bit of his body, he chose to ignore it. His hands and knees on the cold floor, he looked down at Kira who was now sobbing as she lay flat beneath him.

"Don't--don't say that!..." he said failing to look at her

"Now you're mad at me? You really are a jerk...I hate you!" She replied covering her eyes with her arm

"I--" Kishi gripped his hands, lost in all words. He doesn't know what to think, what to say. He felt frustrated and felt like screaming, while he also felt guilty and wrong, wanting to cry and embrace her. He was all confused, unable to think of anything. His vision is starting to swirl, then he lost all senses. All he heard was distant screams, calling for him, then it all faded.

Bruises all over her body, she was being treated by the fairies. Kishi lay unconscious beside her. Though the bed was comfortable and soft, she felt like sitting in a thorny bush, wanting to go away.

She was trembling all over, and Sychi can't help but notice this. She flew towards Kira then landed a small kiss down her forehead.

"Kira dear, it must have been a shock to you. I dare say that the two of you never fought like this before, or at least not this worse" Sychi beamed at her, but Kira remained silent, not even looking at her

"Well, I suppose you have to go to school alone tomorrow, Kishi won't be waking up until tomorrow evening" she sighed "But worry not, it happens quite a lot of this past four years..."

"Why?" Kira asked her, fear could be heard in her voice

"I'm afraid I can't tell you, not as long as he permits me to. You know what I mean, don't you Kira? Very well I'll take my leave"

Without another word, Sychi followed by the other fairies, left. The sound of the door closing echoed loudly across the room. Kira's heart sank deeply, she can't breathe. She wanted to scream as the fury inside of her overflows. She placed her hands on her head and cried loudly, that Fuffy's effort to calm and comfort her were useless. She was once again, trapped in her darkness.

Just as Sychi said it, Kira alone went back to Magic High. Everyone noticed her gloominess, and the fact that she was unusually alone, but dare not speak to her. They tried talking to her about good stuff, but she always ended it immediately, like silently telling them she does not want to speak. The day passed quickly and her mind was not in the lessons.

"Er...Kira, where's Ki--" Mythica tried to speak with her, but Yin nudged her while shaking his head.

After class, Kira didn't join them at the central lounge at the library, but merely sat in a more private table far away from them.

Kira was reading the same books she was attempting to master yesterday, when Airi sat beside her.

"So, what's up?" he asked

"Nothing" She quickly lied

Airi sighed "Fine.....he fainted again, is he?"

Just as he expected it to, his words triggered her defenses.

"It's not my fault! He--Kishi--He's, he's unbelievable! I hate him! I hate him! Kishi thinks he's better! He just, just--"

"Kira" Airi broke through her "You fought, haven't you? For real. You know, your way to obvious. It might not be for long, but I know very well that you never call him by his name, never"

Kira was rendered silent. Airi saw her trembling, she wanted to hold her, to comfort her, but he hesitated. Somethings telling him not to, and so he did.

"You said it, but I know your blaming yourself. What happened?"

"I yelled at him" she quickly answered "I'm so horrible, I hurt him, I--"

"It's okay"

"It's not okay!"

"Okay, okay. But honestly, don't blame yourself"

"But I, I said mean things to him, I said I hate him"

"Kira listen, his life is all yours, your all he cared about. Before we met you, he's very edgy and cold. All he ever did was aim for the top spot, and he's big sore loser even if he always wins. He's never satisfied with himself, and do you know why?"

Kira remained silent so, Airi continued

"It's 'cause he thought that maybe, if he would strong enough, maybe then, he would be able to protect you. He never told, nor say anything about you, but I know"

Airi grinned then asked her "You said you hate him, now think about it. What would he feel? Do you think his mad?" Again, Kira remained silent "I wouldn't think so. He's not that type of guy, I'm sure you know. I bet he'll feel really sorry. Once he sees you again, I'm sure he would ask you to come back to him again"

"But I'm horrible"

"Well, whatever. But don't worry too much, it kinda happens a lot, I'm not surprised really"

"Yes, Sychi told me so..."

"Did she tell you why?" Kira shook her head "I see... He told me not to tell anyone, but too bad for him, I guess. The truth is it happens when two of his personalities get all mixed up, you know. He probably doesn't want you to know, because you'll blame yourself, but you have every right to know"

"I'm sure you get the fact that sometimes he's not himself, like a different person. I'll say it's pretty normal for us, even you. And normally, it starts when we face our biggest fears, or one should say a traumatic scene. And Kishi's second personality's more active. Probably because of his, you know, over protectiveness. You get the point. It's all into you"

"But don't take it seriously though, and don't tell him. It's for the best. And also, remember this, that kind of thing is normal to us so, it's not a major issue. But if your going home, you better go ahead before night fall"

"Oh, right! thanks for the pep talk Airi, thank you. See you tomorrow!"

Airi smiled at her as she disappeared. She never noticed it, but Airi know them both too well. He was satisfied with himself, but still can't comprehend the reason of his hesitation. What the reason would be, he never knew. Tomorrow's the Christmas eve, everyone's busy, and things are just starting.
