While I was deep in thought over the possibilities, I didn't realize that someone was creeping into the shower. I was oblivious until I felt two warm arms wrap around my naked waist. I screamed and jumped. "It is only me" John murmured. I smiled and leaned back into his chest.
"This is nice," I said with a grin. "Mmmm, it is." He murmured, "What are we going to do today?" "I was thinking that you could show me what was so good about the lake?"
I said with a stare of mock thought "Deal"

We both dressed in comfortable jeans and t-shirts and headed to the lake with a packed breakfast and a picnic lunch. It was going to be a good day.
We walked down to the lake slowly, just walking holding hands, making the most of the time we had together, or making up for the time we had lost. I could see this as a new beginning. I smiled and stared at John who had a content smile on his face as well. The lake was amazing.
The river was a completely clear crystal blue. There was green grass covering every inch of the land with large shady trees everywhere. I turned to John who had wandered off a little bit to set up the picnic blanket and the food. I jogged the short distance over there. "
This place is amazing" I said truthfully "Yeah, that was my first impression as well. It gets better later though" he said mysteriously. "Why? What happens later?" I asked curiously He smiled at me and knelt and continued unpacking from the picnic hamper. "John? I hate surprises! Tell me please?" He just laughed, but otherwise acted like I had not said anything.
I sat down on the rug he had laid out and crossed my arms, determined not to move or say anything until he told me. "Amelia, what are you doing?" He asked humourlessly I just sat there; I did not speak or even acknowledge that he had said anything. "Amelia," he said stalking towards me, I still didn't move. "I bet I can make your move…"
He was now sitting right in front of me, his face was moving closer. He leaned over but before he could kiss me (which would have broken my resolve) something fell out his pocket. He froze and tried to hide whatever it was.
Curious I moved closer only to briefly see a small box before he sat on it. "John, what are you sitting on?" I asked "Nothing," he said quickly "Bull shit, what is it?" "Nothing!" "John…" I said warningly and he poked his tongue out at me "Amelia" he said childishly "Oh what is that?"
I yelled pointing away "What?!?" he yelled stupidly and got up to stare. As soon as he did I grabbed the box and opened it, and froze. "Amelia there is nothing there!" he said and turned around froze as well once he saw what I had found. He was the first to come unfrozen.
"Amelia…" he said quietly sitting back down in front of me, his hand on my knee. "What the fuck is this?" I asked incredulously "Well I thought that is pretty self-explanatory," he said matter of fact.
"But it is a... You couldn't…would you? I mean it‟s… but what…"
"Well I had planned it a bit differently but since you are so curious," he said quietly "Amelia, I love you. Will you marry me?" he asked I stared at him then back at the amazing ring nested in the box. "What?!?"
"I just asked you to marry me," he said quietly, I stared at him like he had two heads… "But we only just got back together, we-we" I stuttered not knowing what the hell I was saying.
I stared over at him to see if it was all a huge mistake or a joke, but his face was portraying hurt. "John-" I said softly, trying to sort out my thought processes
"Nah it is ok", he said quickly cutting me off, "I get it if you don‟t want to as well". He got up and jogged away before I could correct him. I sat there frozen in shock. I loved John, I did. He had a ring; he bought a ring out here back when he hated me.
Why though? I stared down at the ring still in my hand. It was gorgeous and he had bought it for me. I knew that going after him right now wouldn't be a good idea. I knew that I loved him and I did want to marry him but it seemed a little early to be asking, didn't it?
I got off the rug that John had laid out and left the meal that was to be the setting for a romantic proposal and walked down to the running river. I let the water rush over my feet and enjoyed the shade that the trees were giving me.
