Chapter 8 - Sanatorium's Patient

"Espresso! You've got your documents from your old residence right?" A cheery middle aged man asked.

"Yes Uncle. Why?"

"I'm just thinking, why not go to school instead of wasting your youth here."

"But.."

"I know your concerns. You are not there anymore. Start a new life here. Besides, I want you to grow up and be an individual you wanted to be."

"Thanks Uncle but I am currently fine. I'll take your suggestion into my mind."

"You really... Just like your father. Okay just think it over alright?"

"Yes Uncle. Thank you."

'Will I be really fine? I am grateful towards Uncle and somehow, I wanted to repay his kindness. If studying is what he wishes for me, then I'll do as he says."

After cleaning up the cafe, he climb upstairs.

Gathering his documents, he started to search for any nearby high schools. Tomorrow, he is going to prepare the necessary requirements for enrolling.

The next day, early in the morning...

"Uncle, I'm going to check the school two blocks from here."

"Ah.. huh?" His Uncle was confused. Seemingly forgotten what he had blabbered yesterday.

Scratching his head, Espresso sheepishly lowered it and unceremoniously told his plan.

"That's good! Haha not only would I be delighted, now I can ease up my mind from worrying too much about you being so cooked up inside the four corners of our cafe." His uncle said while wiping his non-existing tears.

"That.. Uncle, I will still continue to help out."

"Okay, as long as you won't compromise your studies."

"Thank you Uncle."

Espresso smiled. Seems like he will become busy these upcoming days.

At the same time, in Country J. Few individuals were seen inside the sanatorium walking to and fro.

A doctor immediately approach the lady upon hearing her arrival.

"Dr. Harlock, these are the latest lab results of the patient you've transferred half a year ago." A thin stack of papers was inside the folder.

"Thank you for your hard work Dr. Shen."

"No no. It was my pleasure helping you out. But that girl sure is lucky. If not for the first aid applied to her, she may not survive until now. Somehow there's an urge for me to meet that fellow."

"Believe me Dr. Shen, you won't want to."

"Ha.. ah?"

"Nothing. The first three months is crucial for a PVS patient, it was the duration were the probability of her waking up is suppose to be high. But half a year had lapse and still no improvement. This is so troublesome." Harlock commented after reading the diagnosis.

"Why not let her family decide if.."

Harlock immediatedly cut off. "No. Continue the treatment. Removing the life support is akin to killing her. Even a thread of hope is enough for us to believe that she might wake up."

"Yes. You're right. I just got ahead of myself Dr. Harlock. I'll leave you here. I still need to visit some patients outside this sanatorium."

"Yes. Thank you for your time Dr. Shen."

"No problem at all Dr. Harlock. I'll go ahead. See you the next time."

"Hmm."

Within the files, the registered name of the patient was...

Vox Eclair.
