Chapter 3 - Reddead Shore

I managed to swim to the beach, just off to the side of a busy port. I was lucky I didn't get hit by a boat, I thought sarcastically. I look down at what I'm wearing, low and behold I was back in beginners robes. brown, woolen, and sodding wet. Quite unattractive, if I dont say so myself. "Sigh, time to head to town and see where I am," I complain aloud as I trod up the beach, sand squishing under my bare feet, carrying my soaked leather boots and cloak in my hands.

As I walked through town, I was glared at and judged for walking around with no shoes, and I had yet to see any reflection of my true disheveled appearance. I must be a sight to see.

Eventually I arrived to what appeared to be the hub of town, with a weathered hand painted sign reading: "Reddead Shore Inn." I could smell some kind of meat roasting from inside, and it made my gullet growl something fierce. I wasn't sure if I even had money, sure I did in the game, but since I awoke here in beginner gear I fear the worst.

As I was entering from the sunny day outside, and into the dimly lit inn, I saw a green flashing light of a bag in my peripheral vision. Perhaps I was in luck yet, it looked like I had some sort of inventory. Before I was able to investigate I was greeted by a voluptuous woman with a head of black curly hair and bright green eyes.

"Well look what the ocean tide swept our way. Ooo sorry, but ye reek of the sea lass. Welcome to Reddead Shore. Whatcha here for aside from a dip in the sea fully clothed?" The lady was a bit imposing despite the fact she barely came up to my chest.

"Honestly I haven't a clue. One minute I'm on horseback evading thieves, the next I'm falling into the ocean. Though I reckon that makes me sound quite mad." I responded with a bit of a worry and an anxious laugh.

She starts laughing like I've told her the best joke of the year. "Oi, Henry!" She called to a man that was liken to that of an ogre. Tall, big, and not the best looker on the eyes.

"Yes, mah?" Henry queried looking down at her.

"Fetch this lass some mead and food. She's quite a jokester, and she can't tell me more if her stomach growls any louder." The mother ordered, and the man did as instructed.

I really wished I had clean clothes, and mine were beginning to stiffen with salt and were becoming unbearably itchy.

"Mam, would it be a bother to perhaps ask for a change of clothes? I have a bit of amnesia, but am willing to work off whatever you provide!" I offered to her, as I thought it would be an even exchange.

"No problem at all, we usually don't see adventurers in this part of the coast line. Hard to get here by foot and cart that is. Though I suppose I can't pass off free work. Ye start in the morning. My name's Ms.Beets or Mah. Pick what ya will." Ms.Beets spoke cheerfully and swiftly.

"Thank you so much Ms.Beets!" I smiled gratefully.

I didn't expect for this lady to give me food and shelter out of nowhere. I was mostly puzzled how she knew I was an adventurer. I saw something that looked like a mirror and looked at my reflection. Sitting close to my neck was a silver pendant with 3 scores ran along the top. Maybe this is how she knew? I slowly reached up and touched it, my thumb running along the grooves.

Then Henry came back from the kitchen with a plate of meat, cheese, and some fruit that looked like a sliced kiwifruit but was red instead of green, and was about the size of an orange. he also had a large tankard which sloshed with mead as he set it on the nearest bench to me.

As I sat Ms.Beets came back with fresh clothes. " Oh I almost for got to ask your name miss? I can't have someone stay here without a name. Also the clothes set on the bottom is for work tomorrow. We start at dawn, don't let me catch ya sleeping in." She rambled on as I started digging into the plate of food. Scrambling to think of a name.

"Moonflower, my name is Moonflower. I know you said adventurers don't pass through, but is there still a guild, or a way of contacting a guild?" I had to find out what the necklace meant and I couldn't stay here forever. I had a weird tinkling run down my spine that I might be in danger. And I needed to look in that glowing bag, or rather figure out how to open it.

"We have two town adventurers, they have their guild set up by the docks. I'm surprised he missed them and their giant sign. " Ms.Beet guffawed at me. "Ye can go in a couple of days, that way ye will have paid for me helping ye."

"Thanks again Ms.Beet, can I take my food up to a room I need to bathe and change." She nodded and ordered Henry to show me to the bathhouse and my room.

After I had cleaned up, I sat in my room and began to see what I was able to do, and to brainstorm on opening my mystery bag.
