Chapter 1 - Finally a job!

Nathan Boyer, an unemployed 20-year-old, is a young adult who lives in the city of Gatineau in the province of Quebec. Since the release of the famous game Another World: Rise of Heroes, he follows on the internet and on TV the news about this game but can't play because he misses the 2,000 $ to buy the VR capsule allowing him to play it.

Since a year he goes to appointments to find a job but all tell him to look elsewhere because he does not have the qualifications in his resume Nathan to stop school after high school because his family doesn't could not afford to pay CEGEP or university and today with the exuberant global unemployment rate, companies have a vast choice to hire better qualified employees. As soon as he finished his studies, he jumped from job to job, switching from a fast-food employee to a window cleaner and a dog walker, but after a few weeks he always ended up being fired for various reasons.

One morning in June, Nathan, as he lives, wakes up in his apartment that he rents with six other tenants to pay for it, connects to the internet to surf the list of available jobs in the area. After an hour of research, an ad catches his attention;

Concierge asked

Search concierge for building belonging to the Blue Flower Group, able to make small repairs, painting, grass cutting, cleaning windows, etc ...

Price: To negotiate

For more information call Charles at: 819-561-XXXX

Address: XXXX Boulevard MXXXXXX Gatineau

Seeing that the address is located less than 15 minutes walk, he takes his cell and dials the phone number on the ad. A voice answers him;

"Hello, here the Blue Flower Group."

"I call you for the announcement on the internet about the job of concierge."

"So you want to apply?"

"Yes that's it!"

"Introduce you the reception at 10:00 and we will discuss."

"OK, thanks."

He hangs up his cell and begins to prepare for his interview. When he arrives in front of the building, he notices that it is an old building dating back to the beginning of 2000 and was starting to become decrepit. With fifteen minutes in advance, he arrives at the reception and gives his name, the receptionist asks him to sit on the bench to wait. He began to inspect the reception room to get to know his owners, today everyone uses holographic technology to watch television but here the T.V post is an old plasma model. Barely five minutes later a person in his thirties arrives in front of Nathan and introduced himself;

"Hi, my name is Charles. We spoke earlier on the phone."

"Yes, I'm Nathan."

"Follow me, we'll go to my office."

Both leave home to go to a small office. The first thing Nathan notices when he walks into the office is that the walls are lined with posters of the famous game Another World: Rise of Heroes, Charles to notice that he stared at the posters and responded;

"Do you know what the Blue Flower Group does?"

"No idea."

"You know that since the appearance of AW * several people have teamed up to play this game and that even countries have formed their groups?"

Yes I knew, I even applied for several of his groups because a good team could make a few hundred thousand dollars a month in salary after converting their currency made in the game. Any youngster of my generation dreams of doing part of one of his teams but for that you had to have a sponsor because to start there was the expenses of the capsules VR, the hiring of a place for the group, the invoices of electricity and of course the subscription of the players A normal person could play AW only by paying for a VR capsule because there were free subscriptions, but this only allowed you to have an avatar drawn at random. The characters drawn were players whose statistics were all random; Statistics, competence, place of departure. For professional players, they take a paid subscription that varies between 100 $ and 5000 $, more the price of the subscription is high and the player can choose between the different features available to create his avatar.

After wandering in his thoughts he answered;

"Yes I know, everyone knows that! Why this question?"

Charles smiled at Nathan's answer.

"Because the Blue Flower Group is one of its teams."

"WHAT !!!!!"

"Hahaha! I surprised you, but yes Blue Flower is a group of players in the universe of Another World: Rise of Heroes."

"I can't believe it but yet I have never heard of your team in the media and I am daily news of AW."

"Aaaah, we have in front of us a fan of the game, it's normal that you don't know us, even if it's been eight months since we formed our team, it isn't well positioned in the ranking of regional teams and so don't even talk about the world ranking. Our team is barely able to support itself."

"Ah OK. So you can afford to pay for a concierge."

"Not really but we are ready to pay you 100 $ a week, to provide you with an apartment in our building and one meal a day."

"Mmmm ... I don't know it's very little 100 $ with the cost of living today. There was no other person who came for the job?"

"Yes there was but all we refuse after hearing the offer for the salary."

Charles looked Nathan right in the eyes and a small smile appeared on his lips and asked;

"I have a little question for you. Do you play Another World: Rise of Heroes."

"No, I can't afford a VR capsule, why?"

"It's perfect, in this case in addition to what I have proposed we will lend you a capsule VR all the time you will be a concierge in our building and it will be installed in your future apartment. What do you think?"

"But ... but ... It's a deal !!!"

To say that I was coming for a job with no hope of getting it and that now I have a job and in addition I will be able to play AW soon. Do I dream, it's inevitably a dream where I'm dead and I'm in heaven now.

Nathan rose from his seat and shook the hand of the man who has now become his boss.

"When can I start moving my stuff and start my job?"

"You can already start moving and tomorrow I will show you what you need to do."

Nathan greeted Charles one last time and left the building to go home. Arriving home, he greeted his roommates and told his story to his best friend and roommate, Steve. This one tells him;

"I'm happy for you, I started worrying for you who kept changing jobs."

"Yep! And I will be able to play AW. I think my years of misery are over."

"I hope you'll think of me when you become rich because otherwise I'll come kick your ass to the most sacred."

The friends laughed a good deal, Nathan began to pick up his things and started his move into euphoria.

Thus began the saga of Nathan Boyer's future life.
