"So, do you have someone in your life right now?"
Divina subtly asked me as usual while cleaning my room. I stood from my bed and lazily hugged her to stop her nagging, "Mom, you know how much I hate boys! I'd rather be alone than have someone messes up my life again. I'm tired of it."
"But that's exactly how you gonna find the one for you. It's not a one time big time gamble. It takes many retakes to find the one for you."
"I'll think about it." Were my last words, succesfully evading Divina's further persistence by proceeding to my bathroom to prepare for another long day.
Divina seems to be worried of me not getting married at my age now. I understand her worry because I am now thirty five. But what can I do? Guys just want to have fun and I am done being toyed with this type of temporary fun. Living alone is enough for me. I don't need a guy in my life. All I need is myself.
Guys are just trash!
Yet, thinking of having my own family still pokes my mind from time to time. But I am now firmed with my decision.
I do not need a guy in my life.
All I need is myself.
"Girl! You're early today as usual! Any news?"
Mandy, who's real name is Manuel, my gay best friend, approached me with that teasing smile of his while his left hand was on his waist, observing my face.
"Nothing." I steadily passed him by, not giving him the reaction he wanted to see.
"What? That's impossible! I told you to check Tinder more often! It's the best way to get yourself get laid by hot papies!" His murmuring goes on while following me behind.
"Stop it Mandy! I do not have time for this!"
I blocked him with my hand before he could probe any more than that. To think he would actually expect something from me when he introduced Tinder to me yesterday. He's kind of crazy just like Divina and it's annoying sometimes.
"Fine! I won't force you anymore to have a guy in your life! BUT!" He gently removed my hand from his view then smoothly sat on my chair with that puppy eye look of his, "Please come with me tonight? Please? It's my treat! Come on! Just have fun somtimes okay? It won't kill you to go out sometimes! The last time we went out together was decades ago! Can you belive that? We always just spend time together in your house!"
Since I did not have anything to do tonight, I agreed to his pleading.
"We will go slay some hot papas tonight girl!" He smiled widely which earned him my terrifying death glare.
"Ops! Nevermind! Gotta go! See you later girl!" He hastily left me while his lips were pointing at somewhere and when I looked at the direction it's pointing at, Mandy was no longer around. He was replaced with Brian, my boss.
"I want black coffee for today. Bring it to my office. I also want you to this and that..." Brian instructed many more things while looking at me intensely. When he was done, he looked at me, expecting for a response,
"Will do sir." I assured him with a warm smile.
Working for him for many years now as his secretacy, he knew exactly what's the equivalent of my response.
"Good."
Minutes later, his intense aura was now kept inside this four cornered minimalist room behind me. An hour did not pass by without him yelling at one of his employers and this goes on until five in the afternoon.
"How can you remain so blooming until this hour when our boss is the demon himself?!"
One of the nosy employers asked me. Her name is Barabara. She was so weirded out as to why I am still looking fresh even when Brian was bombarding them with yelling and shouting. And that's the thing. The ones he was yelling at were them.
Not me.
"It's actually simple. Just do whatever he asks you to do and you won't see his mouth opening until he dies."
"But that's impossible! He always finds mistake in every work we do! Even the slightiest mistake, he would spot it on! We are so jealous of you! We haven't seen you getting yelled at by him! Just what the heck is your secret? Did you.. perhaps, seduce him? But that's impossible! That's not like you and Brian surely don't like that kind of woman as his secretary! Or else, you would have been fired years ago."
I rolled my eyes over her remarks.
This right here, is the reason why you guys are being yelled at always. Instead of focusing on your work, you guys just want to complain.
Barbara wanted to say more but Brian came out of his office. His eyes landed on me with his emotionless expression, "Bring the rest of the papers in my car."
"Right away sir."
Barbara's eyes were on the ground, not until Brian left when she finally lifted her head.
"If only he's not a demon, women would surely crawl to his bed! Such a waste."
My left eyebrow raised with her statement. Despite what she said, I could clearly sense from her direction the lust her body emits while looking at Brian as he walked away from us.
Demon or not, your body would surely want to taste him, right Barbara?
However, instead of voicing out my opinion, I swiftly followed Brian's trail and handed him his papers the moment he got comfortable in his car.
"You may go."
"Thank you for today sir." I plasteted another genuine smile with gratefulness in my heart.
Brian just nodded as he urged the driver to quickly leave the premise as he still have some events to attend to. My smile remained until I could no longer see the car.
I then remembered Barbara's words. Brian is undeniably hot and at the age of thirty eight, he still looks as if he's still at his late tweenties. Many women fancied his looks and even wanted to sleep with him. He is considered as the hottest bachelor in the current business world generation.
But once they found out his temper and behavior, these women backad out without any hesitation. Who would want to deal with his temper anyway?
Before I got this job, many women were fired as his secretary. There are two possible reasons for that. First, its either they were trying to flirt or they always messed up his task for them. He wouldn't show any mercy if you are clumsy and useless. And so far, only me had stayed longer by his side as his secretary. Many jealous women tried to stain my name but when they remembered the reasons why the previous secretaries were fired, their mouth automatically shut.
Yet, it's exactly because he is the so called "demon" that I am doing my best to repay the favor I owe him.
