Chapter 118 - Portion 19: The Vulnerability

Karla Kuznetsov's POV

I was walking with Scott around town as I was stopping to see the flea market as well as trying to make Scott less intense.

"Why are you so calm doing this?" He asked me as I was putting the sunglasses on his face, he looked mysterious and I saw the way the local women were staring at him. I was feeling a little envious right now but that's not the point.

"I have been doing this since I was 18 years old. Of course, I was trained to be in this situation," I said as I was smiling at him before he was glaring at me as I was removing his sunglasses.

"What? It's no good on you," I said as I was trying to keep the conversation light. I was smiling at the vendor before I was paying the sunglasses.

"I thought you hate it,"

"On you. But on me? Another story then," I said as I was thanking the vendor and we were moving to the other side of the town after that. I have brought Scott to Monti to avoid being pursued right now.

"Okay, so let me get this straight. You have been doing this since you're 18? And your parents have nothing to go against this?" He asked me as I was shrugging. If he knows about my father and his obsession with my blood, I think Scott will go mad after this.

"I will have a word with your father then," he said. See what I mean?

"Do not worry. He was not around anymore," I said before he stopped.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I don't know that he has passed—"

"He is in prison," I said before I was putting the sunglasses and we were walking toward a restaurant for our lunch. This chasing has made me famish and I think I need to refuel before we can continue this disguise.

"Okay, that's even worst. For whatever for?" He asked me before I was shrugging at him. I don't want to say it in the sea of people but I think we have to do this conversation as soon as possible. I was looking at him before I was shaking my head. I was smiling at him.

"What? What's so funny, Ms. Kuznetsov?" He asked me as he was narrowing his eyes at me. I was shaking my head again before I was pulling him into one of the magnificent local restaurants.

"Hi, table for two please," I said as I was looking at the hostess. Her name was Erika. She looked like she was 18 years old.

"This way, ma'am, sir,'' he said as I was pulling Scott by my side before I was taking the table by the window as I was looking at the streets. I saw there was a violinist that was playing and there's a couple of people that were dancing there. I smiled before the hostess was taking our order.

"I will have a Bruschetta and the lady will have a mushroom risotto," Scott said in Italian as I was looking at him. He looked charming with that accent in a foreign language.

"Okay, will do. And the wine?"

"Chianti. Thanks," he said as he gave the menus and we were staring at the hostess before Scott was clearing his throat.

"Well, you never cease to amaze me, Karla,'' he said as he was looking at me with his garnet eyes. I smirked before I was looking at him.

"What can I say? I am amazing like that," I said as I was looking at him. Scott smirked before he was nodding.

"Yup I agree with that," he said before the hostess was coming with our wine and I was looking at her. I thanked him before I was looking at Scott that was pouring the wine into our glasses.

"Cheers to another year then," Scott said as I was looking at him.

What do you mean?" I said as I was sipping on the wine before Scott was smirking charmingly at me.

"Well, I can say that you are now officially my lover. I hope that we will be continuing this until the next year and the next and the next until death does us apart," Scott said before I was putting the wine glass down.

"Amen to that,"

"Now, what do you want to have the conversation about? Something that you should tell me when we were running for our lives right now," Scott said as I was sighing. I think it's time for me to tell him the truth about my life.

"You do know that Conall and my sister were traveled to the past right?" I asked him as he nodded. He was one of Conall's best friends. Of course, he knows about it. I cleared my throat before I was looking into his eyes. And before I can speak, the hostess was putting the menu on the table.

"Enjoy," she said as I was smiling at her and thanked her.

"So, what about it? Scott said as he was taking a bite of his food. I was looking at my risotto before I was turning to look at my lover.

My Scott.

I took a deep breath when I was learning to tell the secret that I have been keeping for a year now. And only Conall, Katrina and Edmond that know about this.

"I was an experiment for my father's obsession," I said before Scott was stopping in his action. He turned to look at me before I was staring at him, waiting for his reactions.

Which was nothing?

"I'm sorry, but what experiment?" He asked before I was licking my lower lips.

"It was for the time travel and my father just discovered that my blood, along with my sister, can take us to the past. And he used mine to get back at my sister at the moment when she was falling in love with her husband," I said as I was looking at Scott before he was dabbing his mouth.

"And then, what happened?" He asked me as I was gripping the chair for support. I have never been bare with anyone like this before.

"And…he was draining my blood in the basement of our mansion," I said as I saw that Scott was rubbing his mouth. Okay, he was being agitated but nothing that he was saying.

I guess Scott was more of the action type of guy, not verbal.

"Are you sure your father was not taking his time in the prison to exact revenge on you?" Scott asked me as I was nodding. Wait, could it be? Then I shook my head.

"I…I don't know actually. His followers were not to be messed around but I don't think my father will be doing so from inside the prison. It was not his style after all," I said as I was looking at Scott. He was getting agitated and I don't think it was because of the warmth.

Wait, was he…

"I swear I will kill your father after this," he mumbled before I was looking at him. Scott was staring at me with his garnet eyes that were telling everything that I needed to know. I was happy to do so but I was smiling weakly.

"Don't. I don't want you to be in prison after that,"

"But he did not deserve to live!" He said before I was staring at him. He cursed under his breath before he was looking at me and his eyes softened.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. I was getting angry with the fact that he was being—"

"A jerk?"

"I was going to say an arse but sure, a jerk works too," Scott said before I was chuckling before I was picking my utensils and we were eating the food now. I think I have done it. I can tell anyone without feeling shameful or destroyed from inside out.

Maybe it was because I told Scott and not anyone else. I'm not so sure if I can tell my sister when I was to meet her in the future.

"Oh, that reminds me. I have an invitation from my friends to go to a masquerade ball. Would you like to come with me?" Scott asked me as I was looking at him.

A ball? In this time of panic?

"Are you sure that would be wise?" I asked him as Scott smirked over the rim of the glass that he was sipping on his wine.

"Believe me, it will distract us from this whole fiasco," Scott convinced me before I was nodding at him.

"Well, I guess one ball will not hurt," I said before Scott was kissing my knuckle as a thank you gesture. I can get used to this.

But what I did not know, the ball will be the last thing on my mind that day.
