Chapter 103 - Portion 4: The Memory

Karla Kuznetsov's POV

I woke up from the dream that was coming from my memory. I was shaking as I was looking at my hands when I was looking around. I was not in that room, in the embrace of Alan and I was alone. I was looking at the clock and it was 3 AM.

I sighed before I was brushing my face with my hands. I was thinking about him again when I was on the mission to take down a company that was rumored to develop a teleportation device. I sighed as I was looking at the ceiling again.

"Why am I back here again?" I asked as I was closing my eyes, listening to the hectic nightlife of Rome when I was currently in. I was not supposed to be here. What if I can run into Alan again?

No, I don't think that he would be here again. And besides, I was a changed woman now.

I am not the same young woman that fell in love with a man at her sister's wedding. I was not that dyed brown-haired girl when I was supposed to be a sunset girl.

I touched my hair as I was looking at the glistening orange hair. I smiled before I was looking at the night sky. It was nightless again, just like a year ago. And just like the day that I was disappearing myself from reaching out to anyone.

I told my supervisors at KGB that I was not supposed to be working as I know that my sister would like to get me out of the organization. It was that…she thinks I was supposed to settle down and be a mother or something.

Not that I don't want to, but I was wary with men now.

I sighed before I was putting on my robe to cover my revealing negligee as I was walking toward the balcony before I stepped outside of the room as the night breeze was hitting my face. I was looking at the busy city of Rome that did not know how to stop.

I was smiling before I was remembering the man of red hair and garnet eyes. My heart skipped a beat before I was clutching it. No, I cannot be remembering him right now.

I moved on and I will do so until I can find someone else to forget him.

I sighed before I was looking at the night sky. I don't know why I was dreaming about this right now but I know for sure that I was not supposed to. I have surpassed that memory and now it was in my dream.

Stupid brain, don't want to listen to me.

I was sighing deeply before I was cracking my neck side to side. I was stretching out before I was looking at the sight of the city. I was happy to know that I was on the mission again when I was supposed to be out of KGB.

Well, let me have my last fun before I settled down. I will come home later but right now, I will focus on my task.

Scott McBaran's POV

It was a Monday morning, 8 AM sharp as I was being called into my mentor's office. I was rolling my eyes before I was knocking on Addington's door. He looked up from the file that he was reading as I was smiling at him.

"You called me?" I asked before I was closing the door and I was moving to take a sit in front of his desk. I was at his house right now as I was visiting him from time to time.

"Ah, yes. Come on in, Scott. I have something to tell you," he said as I was arching at him. I was sitting in front of him right now.

"So, what do you want to talk about?" I asked as I was twirling his pen inside my hands. I was looking at him with disinterest before he was clearing his throat. Addington was smiling at me before I was smelling something.

Something fishy.

"Okay, what is it? Just out with it so that we can move on with our lives now," I said as I was looking at Addington. He arched his eyebrows at me before I scoffed at him.

"Addington, I know that you would not call me just for a chit chat. So, what are you asking me to do your bidding now?'' I asked him before he smiled. And that gives me creep. Addington never smiled.

Ever!

"Sharp as always, my boy. But you must refrain from doing so as I know that you might push some women away with your honesty," he said as I was rolling my eyes at him. He smirked.

"Well, if they cannot handle my truth, then I guess they are not meant for me,'' I said as I was looking at him. He chuckled.

"Maybe, or you're just avoiding the inevitable that was coming for you," Addington said with a knowing smile. I rolled my eyes at him.

"Okay, what is it, old man? I don't have time for this," I said as I was crossing my hands in front of my chest. I was narrowing my eyes at him before he chuckled.

"Ah, yes. The task that you were waiting from me," he said as he was pushing the file that he was reading just now. I took a look before I was looking at the familiar face.

Brown hair.

Green eyes.

Charming smile.

Cute dimples.

Karla…my love.

"Now, I know that you are not familiar with search and rescue—"

"I do it," I said quickly that made Addington arched his eyebrows at me again.

"You do it? But I thought you don't usually do—"

"Well, I think it was time for me to venture out from just doing the technology. I wanted to be in the field as well, for the sake of experience," I said as I was closing the file. I cannot let him know that I know this person or he would matchmake me.

And I don't want him to interfere with my love life.

"Okay, if you said so. So you will take the case?" He asked me as I was rolling my eyes.

"Have you not been paying attention? Yes, I will do it. With an extra fee of course since it was a person, not a technology," I said as I was smirking at him. Addington sighed.

"What is it?" He asked before I was smiling at him. I haven't met her for a year now. Would she recognize me that I was a new person? When I first met her, I have my beard on and my hair was long so I don't think she would recognize me when I was in my tousled red hair and I was cleanly shaven.

"Give me my real identity," I said to Addington before he sighed. I know that he will argue with me.

"You know why I can't—"

"Why not? I can take care of myself. Conall was not using any fake names and he survived. And let's not talk about that douche and Lucas," I said as I was still angry with Edmond for spilling the tea that I was showing some interest with someone before Addington knows it.

I will rip him off when I saw him this upcoming ball. Conall was going to introduce his wife to the society and has invited us all to come.

I think I will kill him with my bare hands then.

"I still don't think that would be a good idea, Scott," he said as I was rolling my eyes. Come on, I wanted to use my name for this mission so that I can approach Karla easily.

"She would not believe me when I told her that she knows me. I was not the same guy anymore," I said as I was looking at Addington. He arched his eyebrow as I cursed under my breath.

"Any more?" He asked as he was amused with me. I cleared my throat.

"I mean, we met before at Conall's wedding. And I think she would not believe I was asked by Conall to find her. What if she thinks I'm a stalker?" I asked him before Addington chuckled.

Again, creepy.

"Well, you are a charmer and the most eligible billionaire. Of course, she would fall under your charm and you will ask her to come with you for the ball that would be a homecoming party as well if she shows up,"

"IF she shows up. There is still a lot of grey area that I need to cover before I can convince her," I said as I was looking at Addington. He smiled before he was standing up from the chair. I stood up as well before Addington was patting my back.

"Then I suggest you bring your A-game into this then," he said before he was leaving me in his office. I scoffed before I was following him.

"Yeah, and I think we need a miracle for that to happen. She was known to be a difficult person to deal with. Ask her twin, Conall's wife," I said before Addington was smiling at me.

"That's why you're doing the job and I gave you the job. Now, off you go. We will be waiting here," he said as I was rolling my eyes when we were descending the stairs.

I think I need more than a miracle for Karla to come home, to be by my side again, and never leave me again in the future.

I think I will show it to her that she belongs to me. We belonged together.
