Chapter 90 - Portion 24: The Escape

Arianna Contos' POV

I was holding hands with Lucas as we were running toward the royal. I know that if we were getting caught amid people, we would escape but it was not easy when we were getting involved with the royalty right now.

"You!" The king said as I was looking at him and Julian was gasping at Lucas.

"You double-crossed me!" He shouted before Lucas was smirking.

"You took something from me first. It's only fitting for me to get it back," Lucas said as he was pulling me closer to his body. I was blushing before I was looking at the crown on the queen's head.

"Give up the citrine now," I said as I was stepping closer to the queen. The king protected her before I was rolling my eyes. It seems that I was getting tired of all of this.

"Well, you asked for it," I said as I was pulling the smoke bomb that I was using from a bit of clay, magnesium, and yak fat. It was nice to know that I found the ingredients for the smoke bomb.

I was making my stealth way into the smoke as I was gripping the crown and yanked it off from the queen.

"Hey!" She shouted before I was running toward Lucas. I can sense that I was happy to be free from this but something was hitting my back that made everything in slow motion now. I saw that Lucas was coming at me before I was hitting the ground.

I was gasping for air before I felt my back was soaking wet. I was holding the crown before Lucas was gripping it and threw it away.

"No…the gem…" I said as I was breathing heavily right now. I was trying to focus but everything was a blur right now. I was staring at the sky.

"Stay with me, Ari. Stay with me, please. I cannot lose you," Lucas said as he was gripping my hand and I was smiling at him.

"You're the only one for me, Lucas. Always was, always been, remember?" I said as I was coughing and I felt blood was coming out of my mouth. I was holding his face before I was caressing his cheeks.

"Don't you dare close your eyes on me! I said look at me, Ari. I was happy to know that you love me even when I was not being the best," Lucas said before he was gripping my hand. I smiled before I chuckled.

"I love you, agapi mou," I whispered before my hand slipped out of his grip and I was closing my eyes. Lucas was calling my name and suddenly, everything was black. I don't know what happened next as I felt the burning sensation was coming out of me and I was gripping tight to Lucas, wishing that it was all but a dream right now.

And I wished it was not real even though I know, it was real as I stopped breathing now.

*~*~*~*~*

When I was coming out from the darkness that has consumed me on the floor, I was hearing the sound of the mechanical machines that you heard in the hospital, to say that your heart was beating and you're not dead.

Beep…Beep…Beep…

I was trying to open my eyes when my eyelids were heavy and I was not having the best of my time right now. I felt like my back was being stabbed by a thousand knives and I was trying to get out of that pain.

Easy, you will not make it if you're forcing yourself," someone said as his voice was soothing. I don't think Lucas would be sounded that nice but I was missing my Lucas already.

Mr. Lucas Dow, the man that owned my heart.

I groaned before I was trying to move. I felt like my hands were weak and when I slowly opened my eyes, I was blinded by the lights that were hitting my retina like a devil.

"God! Turn it off, it's hurting my eyes," I said as I was trying to block the lights. Someone chuckled before they were talking. Then I heard the voice. It was Lucas' as I was taking in what he was saying.

"I told you to put it on dim. But no, you have to make it bright. Now, Ari is suffering," Lucas said as his friend was chuckling.

"Dude. Seriously you need to chill out," his friend said.

"Tell me that when you have someone that meant something to you. Oh but wait, you don't have one and so you are not qualified to tell me anything," Lucas barked at his friend before he chuckled.

"You sound like Conall and Edmond. I think I will have the best drama of my life when you get jealous over someone that was checking out your woman," his friend retorted before Lucas hissed at him.

"Of course! I would not let anyone take another look at Ari. And you need to go she was awake now. Now go do your own thing," Lucas said as their footsteps were hitting the floor.

"Just because I am your best friend, that does not mean you get to boss me around,"

"Get out, Mcbaran!" Lucas shouted before the door was slammed and I was flinching from the sound.

"I'm sorry. Scott can be overwhelming sometimes," Lucas said before he was turning down the lights so that it would be dim and I can see. I was removing my hand before Lucas was beside me. I smiled at him before he was taking my hand and I was looking around.

The beeping machine.

Sanitizer everywhere.

The smell of medicine and alcohol.

Yup, I am in the hospital.

I was trying to get up but Lucas was preventing me to do so.

"No, you can't. We have to make sure that you will not be doing anything unnecessary right now. I don't want you to get hurt," Lucas said as I was shaking my head.

"I am not a baby. I can do this on my own," I said before Lucas snorted at me.

"Yeah right. And you're almost getting yourself killed," Lucas said as I was turning sharply at him before I was glaring at him. He cleared his throat.

"Sorry,'' he said before he was helping me to sit up as Lucas was sitting next to me on the bed.

"Where are we?" I asked Lucas before he was caressing his thumbs on my knuckles.

"We're in Greece," Lucas said as I was arching my eyebrow. He needed to be more specific.after that horrible experience, I don't think I would be confused when people said my home country.

"It's the present time. We're home now," Lucas whispered to me before I was arching my eyebrows at him.

"Really? But how do we get out of that horrible place?" I asked before Lucas was pulling the duvet to my laps before he was smiling at me.

"It's fine. We don't need to think about it now. You just woke up and I think you might be hungry," Lucas said and instantly, my stomach growled. Now I felt my cheeks were getting warmed. Lucas chuckled.

"Don't worry, I would not tell anyone about that," Lucas said before he was pulling some moussaka and olives. I was happy right now that I get to eat the right food for my stomach and within seconds, I have to ask for a second round.

"Okay, you need to control your appetite, princess," he said as he was giving me the food and a glass of water. I finished it in seconds before I was belching out loud. I was closing my mouth with my hand before Lucas was laughing.

"Now that's how I know you're not hungry anymore, Ari," Lucas said as he was tucking my hair behind my ear. He took away my plates before he was staring at me. I was getting uncomfortable but I don't know why.

"Ari, I have to tell you something," he said as I was looking into his silver eyes. I was waiting for him to continue before he was clearing his throat.

"After I saw that you were drowning on your blood, I cannot tell how much it was killing me. After that day, I think I have to let go of this grudge of trying to catch your alter ego. So, I am willing to forgive and forget so that I can ask you this one question," Lucas said as he was staring into my eyes. He took a deep breath before he was speaking those magical words.

"Arianna Contos, will you give me the honor of becoming my wife?" He said as my heart was clenching with happiness right now.
