Chapter 74 - Portion 8: The Basement

Arianna Contos' POV

I did not know that Lucas Dow was an Interpol agent. This will work perfectly for me as I will know everything that he will be planning to make sure that the museum was secure. I will have the inside scoop of not getting under his radar then.

"So, this is the basement. I told you, it was not that impressive. I don't even know why you wanted to be here," I said as I was pushing the door wide as Lucas stepped inside the basement. There were sarcophagi and other stuff. Some papyrus was showing in the glass case before my keen eyes spotted something.

No, it cannot be…

"What's that?" I asked Lucas before he was walking toward the shiny box that was under the tarps that covered some of the mummies and sarcophagi. I was hesitated to follow but I did anyway since I was the curator of this museum.

It means that nothing goes unnoticed by my eyes.

"Hmm, it seems like a box for something," Lucas said as he was trying to open it. It was unlocked and I was looking at his hand when he was opening the box slowly. Then, we gasped.

"No way,"

"I think I have solved the case of that thieving last night, Ari," Lucas said before he turned to smile at me. I was looking at him as I was forcing a smile at him.

"Good job," I said before I was looking at the Crown Jewel of Sicily. I thought Jenny has stolen it but it seems that she had the fake ones.

Poor Jenny.

"Okay, I think I might tell Harriet about this," Lucas said before I stopped him.

"Why don't I tell him and you can secure this gem under the recovery items. I will tell my boss that we don't have to panic for this anymore," I said as I was smiling at Lucas. He was thinking about my suggestion before he was nodding at me.

"You're right. I need to notify my superiors about this. Thank you, Ari. You're the best," Lucas said as he absently kissed my cheek. I froze before he was out of the basement and I was touching the cheek that his lips just touched.

'No, stop beating you, stupid heart! You're a thief and this man is your enemy. You need to calm down!' I said as I was taking a deep breath before I was texting my box that the missing jewel has been recovered. I don't specify which one before Harriet said that it's fine. I smiled before I was looking at the tarps of the covered sarcophagi.

I took a deep breath before I was leaving the basement and went to join Lucas upstairs. What he did not know will never kill him and besides, the Citrine of Greece was not on the hot list of Interpol after all.

"So, how did you manage to find it?" My colleague was asking me when I was putting some invoices inside their right order before I turned to look at her. She was keen to know but I will not share it.

"Well, it was in the basement. I think someone misplaced it," I said before my mind was filled with Jenny wearing all black. I think I might have to have a word with her as she was playing with fire right now. The museum director was not having a good day right now.

"So, want to get lunch?" My colleague said as I was shaking my head.

"Sorry, I already booked. I have an appointment with someone," I said before she smirked at me.

"Now, don't tell me it was from one of the guys in the IT department?" She asked as I laughed at her.

"No, it was not from the museum," I said before I saw that Lucas was coming out of Harriet's office. My colleague was sighing when she saw that Lucas was walking down to the lobby of the museum.

"I think I might die if that person was to ask me for a date with him," she said as I was feeling something inside my chest. It was like a claw that wanted to get her eyes out and bleed her to death.

Woah, where did that thought came from?

I was shaking my head before I was looking at my papers and set them aside. I might as well get going to the hotel to overlook the business that Tomas promised to tell me today.

"Okay, gotta run. I see you later," I said as I was waving her goodbye and I was exiting through the back door. I don't want Lucas to find me.

Or maybe I was simply trying to avoid him as much as possible.

When I was looking for my bus card, I hit something as I was walking on the sidewalk as I was stepping back a couple of steps because of the impact.

"Woah, watch where you're going. You might hurt yourself and someone that you hit," the familiar voice hit my eardrum before I turned to look at the person that was in front of me.

Lucas Dow.

"Lucas, I thought you were meeting with Harriet? What are you doing here?" I asked as I know that I just saw him coming out of Harriet's office. Maybe I don't want him to get suspicious with me after all.

Lucas smirked before he was putting his hands inside the pockets of his pants. He was devilishly handsome doing it and I think my panties just got wet again. I smiled, trying to push the lust that I was feeling for Lucas right now.

'Down, girl. Remember, he's the enemy,'

"No, I was just got out of the office and I thought maybe I could catch up with you, maybe asking you for lunch?" He said as he was rubbing his neck. I arched my eyebrow at him as Lucas was smiling sheepishly at me.

"Oh, so you want another date with me?" I asked him as I was being bold right now. Lucas turned to look at me as he was smiling charmingly.

"If you're not too busy," he said as I was thinking that I might play with him to get him off my radar. But it will be a lot of risks. And not to mention that The Citrine of Greece was in the basement.

"Hmm, I don't think I can today. I have an earlier engagement. But maybe another time?" I said as Lucas smiled at me before the bus was coming my way.

"Another time then," he said before the bus stopped and I was getting on the bus.

"Have a good lunch," I said to Lucas before I left him stranded on the sidewalk as the bus was moving again. He waved at me as I was smiling and waved at him before I was sitting on the seat and looked ahead.

I think Lucas does like me but can I trust him if he knows who I was?

Lucas Dows POV

I was looking at the bus leaving as Ari was on that bus. I wondered where she went to before my phone buzzed. I took it out and rolled my eyes when it was Edmond that was texting me, asking about the book that he shipped to me.

E: Did you get it?

L: Why would you give it to me? Can't you just give it back to Conall?

E: No! I can't. He asked me to get rid of it and I did not. So, it will be your turn to take care of it.

I rolled my eyes when I was reading the text before I was replying to him again.

L: I did not have it with me right now. Besides, it was heavy to carry around.

E: Well, I don't ask you to carry it. I asked you to take care of it and hide it from the world.

L: That's good 'cause I just gave it to Scott.

E: You did what?!

I smirked before my phone rang as Edmond was calling. I considered not taking it but if he was not busy calling me right now, so why not? I picked the phone and I was listening to Edmond ragged breaths.

"Why did you give it to Scott? I told you and asked you to take care of it,"

"I can't. I still have another case to solve and I don't want that creepy book in my room," I said as I was remembering the worn leather and some pentagram symbols on the book cover. I shivered.

"It's not creepy. It was old and worn out. I don't think that you would be afraid of some old books, Dow," he said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes before I was moving toward the cab that was waiting for any passenger. I smiled at him before I got inside and he asked me where to go.

"The Hypnos Camp please," I said before I was looking at the scenery as Edmond sighed.

"Where is Scott now?"

"I don't know. I am not his baby sitter," I said before Edmond cursed in French. I smirked as I know those words as well.

"Whatever. I will contact him now. You are going to pay for this,"

"Oh, but you got this problem by doing it yourself, Lattone. So spare me out of it. I have work to do, bye," I said before I was hanging up on Edmond before he could say anything.
