Edmond Lattone's POV
"I don't see how this will help us to get the gem back," Lyana was talking to me as she was stepping out of the makeshift fitting room when I was brushing my vest. Lyana looked so stunning with her fair hair and her big, blue eyes.
"Now you look the part of a lady," I said before she grimaced at me.
"What was that supposed to mean?" She asked me as she put her hands on her waist. I chuckled before I was clearing my throat. I cannot believe that La Femme Bleu was someone that I have been spending so much time with.
Heck, I even tasted her!
I was looking at her ample bosom that was being covered by the neckerchief of the simple dress that we stole from somewhere as Lyana was pulling her dress up. I see the stockings were enticing me to play with it.
God, control Lattone! We have a situation here.
"Okay. I think we can past through the crowd without being stood up too much," I said as I was collecting my clothes with Lyana's before I was storing it behind some barrels. I was dusting my hands before I was looking at Lyana.
"So, we have to play our parts here,"
"And what part was that?" She asked as I was looking at her. I was smiling at her before I was pulling her hand and settled it on the crook of my elbow.
"Easy, you be my lady of the night and I am your benevolent," I said as we were walking out of the abandoned alley before Lyana was scoffing at me.
"Look here mister, I am not your lady of the night and if you think for one second that I will spread my legs for you—"
"Who said I wanted it to be real? I just wanted you to know that we have to work together to do this. I know this time travel thing will be a new thing for you but I know that I can fix this. My friend has experienced this before,'' I said as we were walking down the street. Lyana was arching her eyebrow at me.
"Your friend?"
"Oh, why yes. He gave me this book that talks about this whole shenanigans," I said as I was pulling her to the other side before I was looking at the passerby that we have passed through before Lyana scoffed.
"It's hard to believe that when my ancestor told me that there was only one bloodline that can travel the time and space," she said as she was looking at me. I stopped before I was turning to look at her. She crossed her hands at me.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I read my family history book that we, the Debaux, has been helping Napoleon during his time to get settled with his power over France and all over Europe. It was sad that we don't do much to take him down, though," Lyana said as I was tilting my head.
"What are you saying?" I asked her before she smirked.
"I'm saying was that I might know someone that will be helping us in this time of need and we are right at the corner to see her," Lyana said as I was furrowing my eyebrows at her.
"Her?"
"Why yes, it's my great ancestor, Patricia Debaux, the Duchess of Marseilles," she said as she was pulling me to the unknown location of this Duchess that she was talking about.
Lyana Debaux's POV
Okay, the thing is, I don't know if my ancestor has this kind of power just like what it was told in the notes but I will not give up until I know that she was the right one for sure.
I was walking along with Edmond that we intercepted with some passerby, which was great by the way as I was pickpocketing them as well.
I have some coins in my pocket as I don't want Edmond to know that I have earned something in the past few hours. I know how a man's ego can be easily bruised.
"Do you even know where are we going?" Edmond asked me for the nth time right now as we were walking in the middle of the night. Most of the house has been lighted out and the only thing that was up was the tavern and the brothel.
I don't think Edmond would be sleeping in one of them.
I was smiling as I was looking around the street. It was dark and I was exhausted as well as famished and hungry. I sighed before I turned to look at Edmond and smiled at him.
"What is it?"
"What makes you say that?"
Edmond looked at me as he was checking up and down. I mean, if it was not for the situation that we were in, I might say that he was trying to torture me when he knows I wanted him.
In my bed.
Screaming his name.
Having the blast time of my life.
Whoa, what was I thinking about this young, hot-blooded Scottish male in his prime?
I mean, Edmond Lattone was one fine specimen that I cannot think of anything else. I know plenty of women would throw themselves to his feet and he would ravish them.
Then the fire was burning inside me as the green monster was clawing its way into my heart.
"Lyana? Are you even listening to what I was saying?" Edmond asked me as I was looking at his blue eyes. The eyes that I wished would look at me with love and adoration, not with disgust or hatred.
But I guessed I was hoping too much.
"Did you say something?" I asked him before Edmond smirked at me.
"Now that was the real question. Did I say or did I not?" He said as I was rolling my eyes at him before I was holding his wrist. He arched his eyebrow before I was nudging my head to the tavern.
"Why do we have to go there?"
"We need to rest and it was difficult to find the house tonight. We continue it in the morning," I said as I was pulling Edmond into the tavern where the guys and males alike were drinking ale and the smell was the reek of alcohol.
A barmaid was coming at me and she was checking out Edmond. Now the green monster was back in my heart before I was putting my hands on Edmond's arm.
"Do you have a room that we can stay for the night? My husband and I have been traveling far and wide that we would love to have a place to stay," I said as the barmaid looked at me after I said the word 'husband'
"You and this monsieur?"
"Oui. Can you help us out? We were on our honeymoon and I think Paris will be the best honeymoon destination right now. But of course, we have to settle in for the night but all the other places have been full, I said as I was smiling at the barmaid before she was looking at Edmond.
"I don't know,"
"I give you a bag of coins if you just show us the room and send us two trays of dinners. No more question ask," I said before the barmaid was perking up when I said a bag of coins.
I think poverty was hard at this period.
"Okay, follow me," she said before she was taking us upstairs and she opened the first door that was leading to a small bedroom. It has one bed, a basin for our wash station, and a chamber pot before I was looking around.
There was no tub for me to take a bath?!
"Excuse me," I said before Edmond was inside the room now. The barmaid turned to me and she was clicking her tongue. It was subtle but I heard it.
"I would like a bath as well if you can tell the servants," I said as I was looking at her. She was furious, I tell you.
"Listen, mam'selle—"
"Another bag of coins if you can take it upstairs in the quickest time," I said before she harrumphed but did like I asked her to.
The servants came and put the bathtub inside the room as Edmond was arching his eyebrow at me.
"What you don't want a bath?"
"Who, me? No, I'm good," he replied as I was looking smugly at him.
"Suit yourself," I said before I was left with Edmond, alone in the room.
Okay, maybe I did not think this through after all.
