"Doctor Keyaru! Your patient!"
"What's wrong? Is it finally the time to cremate his body? What about his family, have you contacted them yet?" When a female nurse rudely entered his office, Keyaru calmly responded like a matter of fact whilst his eyes locked onto the document on his table. Speaking of his patient, it was an unlucky young man still in high school yet already met with such a tragic end.
if the truck driver weren't sleep-deprived and high on caffeine, the accident wouldn't have happened. The driver claimed he didn't notice the red light and the young man crossing the street until it was already too late. And by the time the ambulance arrived, the victim had already passed away on the scene.
As an experienced doctor, this kind of thing happens very often. He was used to it. It's saddening that another youngster's life was easily claimed despite the long future waiting ahead of him.
"No, that isn't what I'm here! Your patient! He is...he woke up!"
"...come again?" As if he couldn't believe what he was listening to, a deep frown appear on the doctor's face, he reckon the nurse was joking around. He had done a full autopsy on his patient, so he knows it. The heart had long stopped working by the time he cut the torso open. Even if his patient was still alive, he wouldn't have a bright future with the loss of his limbs. Both his arms and legs were damaged beyond repair, Doctor Keyaru still hasn't forgotten about it.
Yet the nurse in front of him decided to jokingly say that the very same patient is awakening? If he had known his patient is still breathing, he wouldn't have deemed the patient to be dead. This isn't even his first time at work, there's no way that his judgment was erroneous.
"It would be better if you go and see it for yourself, doctor. Otherwise, you won't believe a word I'm saying."
With a helpless sigh, Keyaru slowly gets up from his seat before following quietly right behind the nurse. While he was on the way there, he overheard a couple of nurses talking about his patient with amazed looks on their faces. He couldn't help but think, maybe what the nurse was saying is the truth? However, that in itself is impossible.
A dead person can't simply come back to life after their heart stopped beating hours later. The notion itself sounds ridiculous, this isn't some fictional story where the protagonist can easily revive himself with the power of friendship or any random nonsense the stupid author comes up with.
This is the reality they live in, and it definitely ain't some magical world. No matter how hard he think about it, nothing realistic crossed his mind. He decided to put it off first considering it's giving him headaches. Just right on time, he and the nurse finally arrived in front of the room where his patient stayed.
Just as his nurse said, the young man is wide awake and clearly breathing like any normal person. And his supposedly broken arms seem to be working just fine judging by the fact he's holding onto the bottle of water. With his widened, Doctor Keyaru quickly scrambled toward his patient with a disbelief mind.
A quick inspection shows the young man is truly the embodiment of health and fitness, there wasn't anything wrong with him, neither his mind nor body. Even the person himself was stunned since he also believes he has no chance of surviving the crash, yet here he was.
For a moment, the whole hospital was turned upside down. They couldn't believe someone who was deemed dead to return alive and perfectly fine. Some of the staff had even seen how bloody and disfigure his body firsthand upon arrival. If they hadn't known better, they might think he was a scammer who fakes accidents for insurance money.
In the end, no matter how many kinds of checkups they did on him, they couldn't find the cause of his sudden awakening. Since he is healthy, they also couldn't retain him any longer as the rule prohibited.
A few days later, Itou Yuuji was discharged from the hospital.
"If I had stayed for a longer period, they might just use the excuse of checking me only to cut my body open. By then, I might die, or maybe not. Whatever the case, I ain't leaving this place with scars all over my body when it's perfectly fine."
A young man could be seen sighing and mumbling to himself while stepping out of the hospital with a few weird glances thrown at him. If he hadn't left yet, he might appear on television by now. He didn't know exactly how it happened, but he was fortunate to survive a fatal accident with all of his limbs remaining intact on his body.
Maybe he was just lucky, Nah, scratch that. There's no way he could claim it as a lucky event when his whole body has been restored from the worst state to perfect health whilst he was in deep sleep. He still remembered the pain he felt after the truck rammed into him.
If not even a professional doctor couldn't find a logical explanation for his well-being after extended analysis, there's no way a high school student like him could come up with anything but theory.
'Maybe this is a second chance God has given me like in the novels? If what happened to me couldn't be explained with science and logic, then I can only lean on unscientific ways.' Yuuji concluded yet even he wasn't confident by his assumption. He isn't so presumptuous to think he is some kind of chosen one. If there are some people who think like that in this day and age, there may be something wrong with their heads.
"Brother!" A young and feminine voice recalled him back to reality. He turned his head to his right, Yuuji then catch a familiar figure running toward him. She also has the same black hair like him, but her eyes were deep purple while he has ocean-blue eyes. Her height is 20 centimeters shorter than him. She was also a high school student but 2 years younger than him, she is none other than his younger sibling.
